Chapter Forty Seven

While Amelia was battling with conflicting emotions, she was operating on a pregnant lady who happened to have gone Into labour, she was mostly at the verge of tears throughout the operation, she was about losing her mind;

‘Calm down Amelia, it’s Jonah, he’s a healer, he moves the world around’ this was the mantra she said to herself, continuously as she requested the instrument required to tear a womb open, her experience in the labour room guarded her hands to save delivery, and when she was done she quickly left.

Her lungs felt stiff, Jonah hasn’t called her back, Amelia was hellbent on knowing something, even the slightest information at the moment could suffice and help calm her raging soul, her curious eyes scampered around the hospital walls for Maxwell; ‘where’s that bastard’ she cursed him beneath her breath as she began to wander around in search of him.

Maxwell was nowhere to be found, he had bursted into thin air.

While Amelia thought about the end as we all knew it, Jonah was in Eric’s house, it turned out after the hike in the morning, a trip to the mall, and some chit chat after a surprising ‘tire issues’ Eric and Jonah didn’t have much difference after all.

For two hours straight, both of them had dinner with multiple canned beers squeezed and tossed in the living room.

‘Seriously, he isn’t much of a player, he should leave the team, what do you think’ Eric asked Jonah, he stretched his hands on Jonah's shoulder, squeezing it gently as he asked those questions, Jonah nodded vigorously.

‘Indeed, he should leave, can you imagine such player in a field!, he sucks big time’

Both men laughed and laughed till their core began to hurt so badly.

‘So what brings you to town, you know I have been around this neighbourhood for too long, I know every soul who passes here, both the living and the dead,” Jonah teased after a few minutes, Eric was wasted, his guard was let loose, and having a chat partner at such a time wasn’t a bad idea.

‘Well my dear friend, I must say, you do have eyes, but maybe not as much are you think, because if you do, then you would have known who I am’ said Eric, he gulped from his can once more, then sagged back on his seat.

‘I believe you only know people in this town. Because if you didn’t, you would have known I am Eric Donaldson, the CEO of a leading tech company few nations away from here’ his words stunned Jonah, and this time around he could not hide it, his eyes popped with fright and shock.

There were so many rich men in this world, Jonah could not name them all, it that name, ‘Eric Donaldson’ it rang a bell in his mind.

‘Well cheers to living a local life then’ they clicked their cans then began to laugh even louder, Jonah still wanted to have his trust, and probably get him drunk enough to talk.

Immediately after Eric’s can emptied Jonah proposed another toast, this time to long lasting friendship and football love, Eric cheered and the both laughed to it while talking about other unimportant things.

Eric was slowly losing it, his beer was making him dizzy, and sleepy, he just wanted to rest his head, when Jonah volunteered to help him lock the doors so they could chill while still in the house.

Eric granted him permission, so Jonah stood from here he sat, he walked towards the front door, he locked it and then proceeded to the back, all along he had switched his phone off because he knew Amelia would call him, the last thing he wanted was for any suspicions, he was already close and was sure if things go on well with Eric he was going to tell her everything.

As he went out the back to lock the door, he turned his phone off, then proceeded to text Amelia about his research and findings when he saw someone in the bedroom, for all he knew, Eric was a bachelor. Not only was he a bachelor, he was a damn womanizer, he knew men like him wouldn’t let a woman stay over long enough.

He contemplated going further, he had only seen a glider of a face, while he walked into the kitchen, the room where the person resided was a little room opposite the back door.

Jonah shoved his phone back into his pocket, he slowly moved over to the room where this lady slept, gently he pushed the door of the room that was already slightly parted and just then, he met someone he never imagined to see, it was Sarah!

“Jonah! Are you done!, I believe I should come inside I need some rest men, I have a lot on my mind, there’s only so little a man can do at such a state’’

“Oh I am done” said Jonah as he looked towards the path he had taken when he was approaching the back door, he wanted to make sure Eric wasn’t coming so he could get a corset view, the moment he realised Eric wasn’t anywhere close by he glanced back to the room, but to his greatest surprise, he couldn’t find her there, on that very spot he had seen her.

‘What the hell!”

‘You there?’ Erica asked again, this time he was much closer than before, and the human gave the room a last glance. He took note of the little details , the folds on the bed were still there but it seemed empty, curiosity weighed in his heart, as he checked the room, but the moment he felt Eric get closer he retreated then went to meet him.

The mood was totally different now, Jonah was left in a haze of conflicting thoughts, Sarah should have no bussiness with Eric, or maybe he was seeing things, he was equally drunk as Eric. He must be hallucinating.

Or maybe, because he was so stressed out on giving her her baby and putting Maxwell down for kidnapping he was now seeing her around, Jonah waved his head to clear the thoughts roaming freely in his mind before he escorted Eric to the room.

“You know, for a man of such calibre one can not imagine you staying alone in this house” Jonah said to Eric as he laid him in the bed.

Eric smirked, “what makes you think I stay alone,” his words were slowly expelled in a sleepy tone and just when he was done he fell asleep, Jonah mew better than to persist, with Eric finally in bed Jonah saw it fit to check out the room, so he left then went to the room but here was nothing there.

Sarah was nowhere to be found.

It was all in his head, he was already seeing things and he blamed Maxwell for it.

While Eric snored mindlessly in his room, Jonah finally had the time to check his missed calls and messages. On seeing it he quickly rushed towards Amelia house. She was worried about him.

He got to her house in a matter of minutes, rang the bell then patiently waited for her to open up.

“Hey” he said as she opened the door, “Jonah!” She pulled him in go a hug her hands tightly wrapped around his neck.

He did the same, “I thought something had happened to you!, Jonah, I think Maxwell knows your where about”

“What!, that’s impossible,”

He pulled away from the hug then walked into Amelia house, they jammed the door then proceeded to the seating area.

Amelia held the looks of dread.

“He confronted me,I didn’t say anything because u don’t know how much he knows about our game, if he knew we are unto him he can hide information from us, I don’t know, I am scared”
