Chapter Twenty Seven: Together In This
“Oh”
Silence reigned in their midst for a while, Amelia didn’t know what to say, Jonah was awestruck by her temerity, and now, both of them were stuck outside Jonah’s house, with their arms wrapped around each other.
It was a surreal act, and none of them wanted to break the bond that it caused. Amelia felt less guilty being here, but she was well aware about the effect it has on her.
Still reluctant to pull away from the hug, Jonah tugged her shoulder, holding her at arm's length, he smiled gently at her.
“You said you were calling, is anything the matter?” He asked, his eyes resting gently on hers, his eyes speaking words his lips wouldn’t dare utter, after Amelia’s words the other night, it felt like he was working on ehh she around her, he had never seen her lose her temper, he had no idea if she was at the brink of losing it again.
“Yes yes—I” she stuttered are she faltered backwards, her cheeks flushed with a suppressed blush, “ that man, from the hospital, the old man that proposed a plan for you to heal those people” she said, her guilty eyes lowered to the floor, as she tried to avoid Jonah’s stare, it was crushing her spirit, and her willingness to talk.
“He said he wants to talk with you, concerning the job offer, and I told him he needed to speak with you first before I say anything that’s why I came” she frown her face a little more than she did when he first saw her, just to create an illusion that she was indeed angry with him, but her facade was getting weaker with the passing second.
“Oh Okay” said Jonah, he walked passed her then towards the front door, Amelia was lost, she expected a more cheerful approach to what she had said, at least a friendly gesture, but Jonah was cold, calm and collected, he shuffled the keys into the keyhole, the pushed the door open.
“You are free to come in if you want,” he said.
Amelia nodded, gently, still cradled in dismay as she walked into the house, she could sense his uneasiness, and could instantly tell it was linked to the fight she had with him the previous night.
There was no guarantee that Maxwell wasn’t going to come at her again, for all she knew, he had a week to play tricks, before they were called back to the hospital.
But for now, he hasn’t called her, or sent her any text, nor has he shown any sign of being a threat to them.
One could say he didn’t even exist in the first place, but it was Maxwell, he was obsessive and he was going to strike back, just not at the moment.
“Jonah, I” she paused, her eyes scanned his face, he had managed to conceal his emotions, “I am sorry” she finally said.
“I am sorry, for yelling at you, but you are always around me, I can think straight, I am confused I am compulsive, you just make me lose focus Jonah, I don’t know if you know this, but your problem has affected me too, you can’t keep acting like it’s yours alone to bear, see—-“ she held his hands, but Jonah pulled away.
“I am not trying to control you but, I want you to know you are not the only one in this, I am in this mess too, if you are going down, I would be going down with you, stop being selfish”
*Bomb*
The unruly explosion took place in Jonah’s mind, that was how much her words hurt him, he instantly felt guilty, he didn’t mean to hurt her in any way , and this was a wake up call for him to step back and allow her do the thing she does best, she was to fix his errors, and she would do this.
The power of his had offered him delusion on a plata and he thought he could finally have a shot at obtaining her, but the stench that kissed his nostrils reminded him of who he really was.
*A very poor man, with nothing but a useless power*
“I am sorry” he said then stepped away.
“Fine, now that we are on the same page, what do you say about healing the sick ?, if you are in, then we could take my car down to the other side of town,”
Jonah showed no sign of resistance, he just went with what she said, and soon they were In her car, and on their way to a fleet of sick and tortured people.
The car ride was almost everlasting till Amelia pulled over at a camp, it almost looked deserted, there were huts everywhere, and he could spot little ragged children running around.
Jonah felt a wave of energy, he could already tell that there were enough people here that needed his help, even the hospital didn’t give him chills like this place did, which made him question himself.
If they were so sick, why weren’t they taken to the hospital for proper care.
“Hey Jonah my man” Adonis, the man who had specially requested Jonah said in an elated tone as he approached them with wide spread arms.
“Hey, how are you doing, where are the people?” Amelia asked.
“First, I am fine, secondly, they are at the back, come”
Three of them surfed through the crowd then into a tent.
“These are the female refugees with leprosy and other illnesses from migration. We have tried our best to provide medical care, but we can’t treat them all, feed and house them,” he said.
The energy emitting their body could almost make him convulse, it was too much, Jonah could not hold it, he could not stay in the same room as them, so he barged outside.
“Jonah!,what’s wrong?”
Amelia grabbed his shoulders from behind, as she tried to coax him, but he was undergoing a painful process.
“You don’t have to do this if you can’t control it” she said.
“Let’s go back home, I am sorry I shouldn’t have brought this on you” she continued.
“Jonah can you hear me?, Jonah”
“I need a mask and a glove” with that being said he walked away.
