Chapter Twelve: The Keepers

She reclined, pondering what he had said. "What should we do next?" She asked him with concern laced on her voice.

Jonah took a deep breath before he started speaking, emphasizing the importance of listening to his vision and he spoke with a serious tone.
"I must use my abilities to assist people who need my help, but it is important for us to be careful. There are people who will try to prevent me from helping. The keepers—They caused my death in my previous life.

Fresh tears welled in Amelia's eyes, but she forced them back, feeling her determination grow stronger. "Then we will work as a team," she said with a stern look on her face "I will try to keep you safe as much as I can and also prevent harm from coming to you.”

Jonah nodded, filled with relief that Amelia was ready to support him through it all and he felt some sort of connection towards her. He softly held her face, his thumb wiping a tear that had slipped.
“Don't cry anymore, you'll be fine. .” Jonah said to her.

Jonah observed the redness and swelling around Amelia's eyes, showing that she had been crying throughout the night. He felt a little bit of guilt while gazing at her. He couldn't stand seeing her that way.

"You have been crying the whole night," he whispered softly, stroking his thumb gently beneath her eye. Allow
me to look after you this time. I want to make breakfast."

Amelia nodded, but her face was etched with worry. “Jonah, you have to rest. You have been through a lot. I cannot allow you—"

He interrupted her with a calm yet gaze. I'm doing well now, for real. Also, I kind of feel indebted to you. You were awake all night, worrying yourself about me. Please allow me to take care of you.”

She paused, clearly conflicted between wanting to look after him and letting him take care of her. Jonah rose to his feet carefully, ensuring he was balanced before giving her a comforting grin.

“I'll prepare something good for us." Jonah insisted.
Amelia eventually agreed with a slight relief in her shoulders. "Okay," she agreed, “but I'll help you if I see you need it.”

Jonah bent over and gently pecked her forehead. He walked to the kitchen and picked a few things from the fridge that he needed to cook. While pondering the bizarre revelations from the previous night, he prepared scrambled eggs, toasted bread, and some cut of fresh fruit.

At intervals , he turned to look at Amelia to be sure that she's fine and not attempting to get up from her chair.

Shortly after, he came back carrying a tray, placing it on the dining table. He smiled as he announced, "Breakfast is ready.”

Amelia glanced at the meal, then shifted her gaze to Jonah, her eyes becoming gentle. Calmness filled her voice as she said, 'Thank you.'" to Jonah.

Jonah sat next to her, watching as she tasted her food. He gently advised, "You also need to look after yourself."

Amelia nodded, her eyes filling up once more, but this time with tears of joy. She whispered, "I know, but it's you we should be more worried about. Okay?.”

Jonah nodded and they started eating. They ate in silence but it was interrupted by the loud ringing of Amelia's phone. Taking a quick look at the display of the caller, she noticed it was the hospital calling. She felt a flutter in her heart, she felt anxious.

"Hello?" she responded, her voice unsure.

"It is Dr. Maxwell, calling from the hospital, Amelia. I have something very interesting to inform you," the person on the phone said. “The patient who miraculously recovered has found who saved him. He claimed that a mysterious man approached him and informed him that he was the one responsible for curing him.” Dr Maxwell said to Amelia excitedly.

Amelia was filled with relief and she looked over at Jonah, who was paying close attention. "Was he able to identify the man?" she inquired, trying to maintain a steady voice.

"No, he did not provide much information. He said he and the man didn't talk much.” Dr Maxwell replied.

"Dr. Maxwell, I appreciate you informing me." She said to him,

Amelia asked Dr Maxwell to inform her of any further developments while trying so hard to hide her relief.

"Okay Amelia, and he careful too.” Dr Maxwell said to her before hanging up.

Amelia placed her phone on the table and turned to Jonah, her face lighting up with a smile. “The patient claimed that he was healed by a mysterious man. Just as we planned it.” Amelia said to him.

Jonah exhaled deeply, feeling the tension release from his shoulders. "Thank goodness. I was afraid that I may have attracted attention somehow.”

Amelia nodded, her eyes gleaming with joy. "Our plan was successful. You are safe for the time being.”

Jonah reached out, taking her hand in his. "We just have to keep being careful. But knowing that I was able to help someone, even if it has to stay a secret, feels... good."

Amelia squeezed his hand, her smile softening. "You did a wonderful thing, Jonah. And we'll figure out the rest together. One step at a time.”

After they finished eating, Jonah took the dishes to the kitchen and Amelia insisted on helping him to do the dishes.

She didn't feel comfortable letting him do all the after the night she just had. She felt he may still be somewhat weak from the whole convulsions and he may just be trying to hide it.

While they did the dishes, Amelia accidentally slipped and the glass cup she was holding fell from her hand and broke into pieces.

She felt terrified and bad about it. “Did it get to you?” She asked Jonah, referring to the shattered glass on the floor.

“You worry too much about Amelia, it's you we should be worried about okay.”

He used the napkin to wipe his hand clean and he bent down to pick up the large pieces of glass. “Leave it, I'll pack it.” He said to Amelia.

“No, I have to. I'm the one that broke it.” Amelia debated
