Chapter Fifty Two: No Turning Back

The first thought that crossed her mind as she crossed the border of her house was going to Jonah’s place, but who was she kidding?

Maxwell wouldn’t take Jonah back to his house to torture him, he wasn’t going to take him back home to have a nice sleep, and for Maxwell to bundle Jonah in such fashion he was going to torture him for sure, Amelia dreaded the idea that came after.

She never wanted to cross the borders of Maxwell's house again, he was a violent and obsessive man, she hated him and swore with the moon and the stars every now and then that he would fall and die, so his iniquities died with him, but it seemed like every second he was thriving.

Adam's apple bubbled up and down her throat as she thought of going to Maxwell's place but it had to be done.

A few minutes into the ride, she arrived at Maxwell's patio, rang the bell a few times before he finally opened the door.

“Welcome, I expected you, but not so early” a a devilish smirk smeared on his thin lips, Amelia hated his guts so much.

“Where is Jonah”

“Oh, baby it's too early to ask, why don't you come in, I was about to have dinner, and I want you to join”

Totally ignoring her question Maxwell walked into the house, he placed two plates on the dinner table, then began to offload what he had cooked in her absence.

“I am not hungry,”

“Do you want Jonah” Maxwell asked, his reaction was totally indifferent, he didn't care how much she was on edge or her desperation, he totally ignored her till she approached the table.

“Yes Maxwell!, I came here to take him home, not feast, you might have killed him for all I cared who knows!”

“Don't shout at me Ammy, I told you to tell him to back off, that's what I told you to do!, tell your lap dog to stay away from my business!”

“Maxwell you kidnapped a child”

“I didn't,”

“You fuckin prick!, you are shameless!”

She tossed her bags at him, Maxwell was quick to dodge.

“Dinner is ready, seat down, I know you don't like cold food so its best you eat it while it’s still hot”

Maxwell pulled out a chair for Amelia, then pointed her her to seat, this time it wasn't just a gesture, it was a command, Amelia had no other option than to sit, she sighed then walked back to the sit, a plate of portage sat before her, it made her belly knot with disgust, everything about him, his food, the way he smiles, the way he dressed, his voice, everything irked her.

“Ladies first, don't worry it's not poisoned,” he grinned mawkishly, urging her to take it, Amelia did as he had said, she dug her spoon into the plate then shoved it back into her mouth, a mixture of sweet and sour played with her taste bud.

“Nice right?, I used Nana’s recipe, my grandma was a super cook, if only I could cook half as good as her, I wouldn't be in the medical sector”

After his statement, silence prevailed throughout the dinner, he packed the plates afterwards then washed them in the sink before coming to see Amelia.

“Well, doctor Amelia, I have a request to make”

“What is it?”

“I need you to tell me what Jonah did to entice you so much, because I know it wasn't flowers, for sure, wasn't expensive dates”

“Maxwell— we are passed this already, stop with all this trouble and release him”

“Troubles, ha!, I just need to do something maybe it might entice you enough to want to give me a chance”

“Jonah and I are just friends”

“Friends that would die for each other, yes, friends that stays over and kiss”

“We don't kiss, stop being childish”

“Really!”

Maxwell walked up to Amelia, he placed his hands around her shoulders, his sly long hands teasing the strands of her hair that were loose.

Amelia felt instantly nauseous when she pushed him then stood up.

“Wheres Jonah, its already late and I want to go home”

“You won't be going home darling, I will have a room prepared for you,”

“Maxwell!!”

“Amelia, I said you won't be going home, I don't think that's a problem,”

Maxwell was already strong-headed, and with his recent character development, Amelia knew better than to persuade him that the only way she would get what she wanted was to play the same kind of game as him.

She sighed again, then sat back down this time around she sat at a safe distance where he could not reach her, “what do I need to do for you to release him”

“Oh baby!” she began to laugh like a damn hyena, damn him and every single thing he stood for.

“Maxwell, don't push me”

“You sound so sexy when you beg, I bet it's sexier with you in cuffs, and strapped to my bed”

“Well you would have told your lap dog to stay out of my business, then I wouldn't have to push your buttons this much, he followed me to an alley in the middle of the night, what do you expect, that I let him interfere?, no!, so you lost your power to argue or have an opinion when you couldn't control him”

“I told him, he didn't listen”

“Hows that my fault”

“Because you damn kidnapped a baby!, you are a psychopath, and you should be locked up in jail for all I care”

“Baby? What baby?, this is the second time you are saying this, I have no idea why I would hound a baby, is that what he told you?, that he was following me because of a baby?”

Amelia called his words bluff, Maxwell wouldn't tell the truth even if his life depended on it, so she persisted.

“You baby you took at the hospital, you cleared all the cameras and logins for the baby,”

“You are crazy and Moxley needs to have you suspended from the hospital because we can't have a psychopath treating people,”

“Screw you!”

“I would love you to do that!” he smirked at her, she hated how she had lost her composure because of him, it made her hate him the more, she couldn't contain her anger, not while he was picking on her nerves every now and then.

“Just release Jonah, I want to go home”

“Its 12am, I won't let you leave, not when something bad could happen to you, you will leave in the morning with your little puppet”

“Fuck you!”

•••
Amelia was left in the room, her mind was restless, she needed to do something, how did Maxwell even think she would be able to sleep knowing Jonah was out there and restless, what if she woke up in the morning and finds out he's dead.

Maxwell wanted to deal with him so badly, she had told Jonah to stay away, that man was evil, he was a complete mess, but he went ahead anyway.

She turned and turned on her bed, her back arched, her skin itched, it was useless staying there, she stood from her bed, walked back and forth, Maxwell couldn't just hide him in a tunnel or some secret room it had to be in this house, he might pretend to be a psychopath but his character came from an obsessive lust, it must be new.

He could lock him in the basement, or better still in the same room as him, she just needed to make sure that he was okay, that was all.

Amelia sat back down, she weighed the ups and downs of this situation, Maxwell promised to let her go the next morning, which would be a few hours from now, what would be another hour to wait that she couldn't.

Her thoughts played in her mind, and after a few twirls and turns, she stood up. With a squared shoulder and a validating excuse, she walked out of the room, and lime a child who didn't want to inquire the wrath of their sleeping parents on the trip to the cookie jar she tiptoed.

Foot after foot till she got to the living room, it was totally dark unlike the rest of the house that had at least a spectrum of light, it wasn't a problem, she pulled out her phone from her pockets then turned the flashlight.

“So you don't listen!” a familiar voice cuts through the silence, It took her by surprise, her phone fell to the floor, as she yelled from here she stood.

“Shit!”

She leaned down to pick her phone, her hands were shaking and instantly soaking in perspiration, she knew she shouldn't have listened to her intrusive thoughts, she should have stayed back in the room, and listened to Maxwell.

But it was too late now, she had been caught and there's no turning back
