Chapter 29 He followed
I quickly dropped my body into the hammock under the tree, letting my body cradle and exhale the air I had previously wanted to exhale. I still can t help but worry about my sister. She was just leaving, and since we teachers had a vacation I was forced to go home to the mansion and stay a few days there. My last day was to deliver Veron to the Airport, all of a sudden. I don't know why she went to Spain, in fact she made a lot of money here.
Because she was alive, I just understood mine, I expected a lot of their questions, I could do nothing but answer those things. I didn't hear anything from them, they even supported me. There were no people in the whole paddy field where I was, to my knowledge there were no others because they also went home.
"Grandma? Grandpa?" I call the old couple.
I knocked a few more times but no one answered, later I noticed one of the mowers cutting the remaining weeds there.
"Hey?" I called the man who looked at me immediately, his eyes narrowed because of the heat of the weather.
"Yes?"
"Did you notice the couple here?" I asked lowering his sharp grip.
"Go to town, with the other teachers, you bought something," he said, referring to the other teachers.
"I see. Thank you," I whispered then turned away.
It looks like they will arrive this afternoon so I decided to put the things in the house, most of what I brought was sent by uncle. My trip to Manila was easy because I found out that Kevin was destined for this. He also brought me here.
It s just funny because I d rather just live here despite my stay here for five months. I learned a lot, and this is an achievement for me. I gradually learned to cook because of watching grandma. I can still learning through watching as always until it became my hobbies. I had already changed into thin pajamas and a shirt from my closet in the mansion. As well as the thick blanket I also took because I was not comfortable with the blanket that was here.
A bag was so full of gift that uncle himself said to give it to another colleague of mine. They even agreed to give the money to the two adults for other expenses. While they waited I decided to arrange the books in the closet. I didn t forget to bring my books especially the ones I bought that I didn t read because of Zeke's mess.
I was stunned by the noise and laughter I heard, I quickly laid my pillow on my head but my drowsiness never returned. I could do nothing but open my eyes and stare blankly at the ceiling. I still feel drowsy because of the closing of my eyelids. I immediately stood up and looked around, the wind was strong because of the curtain flying on the window, it was also quite dark and it looked like they were already there. I just combed my long hair and wiped my back with sweat, I forgot to open the curtain that blocked my bed so it looks so hot.
"You left the door open when you were sleeping, it's a good thing that Perdong closed it right away," grandpa said, the father to the man I asked.
"Have you been here before?" I change the question.
Erick was busy taking care of the knuckles that looked like they had just been removed. Others are already preparing dinner. "What is almost here? It's good that I'll be able to cook when you wake up," said the old man who smiled at me.
I was stunned for a moment when I remembered what uncle was proposing. I quickly picked up a bag where the other counterfeits were and the envelope with only the money. Although others were wondering why I took it out, I chose to give the envelope to grandma Crising immediately. It looked strange to me.
"Uncle is extending it, I'll give it to you," I said simply, they surprised you.
Their eyes literally widened when they saw what was inside and panic being given to me. But I withdrew my hand so they couldn t give that up.
"Oh! Merciful God! I can't accept that thing."
"Gransma, it was my uncle who gave that. I told you that you only rely on the meager amount that the capitol provides," I said softly.
Fortunately and they have crops and get food every day there. "We can't accept that, that's just your food, that's too much money," said mother who seemed to have heard the others.
"I have money, accept that, it's like you have to buy medicine," I said with a smile.
They both take medicine and don t have enough money to buy. Fortunately, Erick told me that. The old couple could do nothing but accept that, I had to signal others to force the old man to later agree as well. We shared food that I don t know if it was a snack or dinner already. We are just on the same band but I feel like the time is different in this place. It's too early for everyone to act.
"Woah! Chocolate!" Clarrise sounded like a child when I put the chocolates and fruit on the table.
"Is that from abroad?" grandma investigation into a chocolate bar.
I just shook my head and opened the food handle, I don't know where it was bought, I was just told to take such foods from the fridge, the fruits were from my uncle who only bought what he needed.
"No," I replied as she nodded.
Others said nothing because they were too busy eating, it was really for them. After we ate, Khaye and Erik offered to wash, and Clarrise and I took everyone's clothes. It's easy to know who those clothes belong to based on their bamboos.
It was seven o'clock in the evening when we finished carrying in the back, the old couple was just talking in the middle of the darkness and with a gas station facing them reason to see the beauty of their smile.
"We can rest! Then tomorrow there will be another class." Khaye's neck stretched.
I just rinsed my face to keep it fresh, just in case I fell asleep early. "It's too late, ijo," heard grandma say who was also noticed by others.
We just let it go because maybe that was just one of the farmers we talked to often. When we finished cleaning the back of the house we decided to go to the front, but to our great surprise there was still the man who was not normally dressed.
"Annika, ija, your husband is hear," grandma said cheerfully, making me nervous.
I have no spouse. If grandpa hadn't picked up the gas stove I wouldn't have guessed which wife the old couple was referring to. My mouth fell open when our eyes met, I don't know if I should be happy because he's here, or if I should be upset because he just came here without excuse.
"Oh, we're going to leave you, it's dangerous on the road so you deserve to spend the night here, the room where your wife is staying is spacious," she said with a smile and left.
Others mixed teasingly looked at me before leaving and entering their houses. The cold from the strong wind mixes with the heat of the sweat that builds up on me. How was he able to go and know I was here? He was staring at me and I knew he was smiling.
"Are you staying here?" smiling its question slightly examining the house behind me.
"What are you doing here?" annoyed my question that caught a glimpse of him.
"You'll be with me," he replied staring at me.
"I finished my job early, so I was ahead of Luca—"
"Get out of here, Zeke," I shooed.
Stunned by it, I can t quite see how he looks because of the darkness and dim light of the gas stoves.
"Do you not want me here?" his question that immediately made me feel guilty.
I could feel the sadness in its tone but the more he disturbed me, the more he disturbed my brain. I just closed my eyes because of the loud thunder and the sky lit up because of the lightning. I don't know if the weather is annoying, especially at night and dangerous on the road.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming here?" I asked annoyed and tried to lower my voice so that others could not hear.
I noticed Zeke's hand entering his pants and looking away. "You haven't answered my calls and messages for five months," he answered weakly. "So I went, Patricio just told me where to see you," he added.
I was even more crushed by what he said, I did not answer all his calls and messages for five months, I had the opportunity to talk to him then, but he disappeared from my mind. The previous annoyance was gradually replaced by shame, can he blame me, if I'm used to losing connection with them so I don't care if their presence is there. After a while it came even closer to me and grinned loudly. Gently placed his palm on my head then ruffled my hair.
"All right, you're asleep. It's too early for you to come in tomorrow. It's getting wet here," he said, leading the house behind me. "I'm leaving too, it's still early," he sniffed at the door again.
I could do nothing but turn away from him, I heard his sigh as I reached the door. But before I could enter, a heavy rain fell. All I should have faced him was to wrap his arms around my waist.
"God is making the way, let me be with you."
