Chapter twenty two

Emma's pov
"Ahhhhhh!" I screamed as I entered the house. What just happened? "Hey Emma, why are you screaming?" Joan asked as she walked out from her room. "Lucas and I kissed",I yelled and her eyes widened in shock. "Are you serious? How did it happen? I thought you guys don't like each other",she said.

"Exactly, I thought so too but today in school we had a conversation with arguing then he invited me over for our project. After two hours of studying, we took a break. Then he asked me if he could kiss me",I explained and Joan squealed like a child. "what did you say?" she asked. "I was so shocked at first but I agreed. I do not even know why I agreed but I did and we kissed",I replied.

" Oh my goodness! This is shocking, your first kiss is magical",Joan said. " It was really crazy and I can't forget it",I smiled. " So does this mean that you are in love with him",she winked and I frowned. " No, it was just a spur of the moment. It doesn't mean love but we are on good terms now",I said and she pouted. " I really wish you and Lucas can be together. You guys will make a good couple", she said.

" I don't think he wants something more with me but it's fine. I'm not bothered about that",I told Joan. " Where is Zoe?" I questioned. " I don't know where she is. That girl is crazy",she whispered and I giggled. " Emma?" Joan called for me.

"Sis",I said. "You look really happy now. When dad died you really changed and your sickness even made everything worse, I was scared of losing you. You became cold, distant and bitchy but you look happy now. You even smile more often and I'm grateful for that",she said in a shaky voice. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I gave her a hug.

" I'm sorry, I promise to be more happy. I promise to smile more",I muttered. " Please do, Emma. I really want to see you happy everyday. Ever since, Lucas came into your life you have been happy so keep him",she advised and I rolled my eyes at the mention of Lucas's name.

"We will be okay",I assured her and she smiled. "I love you, Jo",I said and she grinned. " I love you too Emma, Forever",she kissed my forehead and I sighed. " I'm ready to go see Mom. I want to let out any form of negativity in my life",I said and she smiled. " Thank you for agreeing to see her. She will be so happy", Joan said with a huge smile on her face.

"I will join you in the next one hour",I said and walked to my room. I took my bath and changed my outfit to a casual one which is a grey sweatpants and black T-shirt. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and stepped out.

"Ready?" Joan asked and I nodded. We entered her car and she drove to the hospital. I was nervous because it's been long I've seen my mom. And it is so sad that I will be seeing her for the first time in a long time like this. "I'm nervous, do you think she will be happy to see me?" I whispered to Joan as we walked past the hall in the hospital.

"I'm sure she will be happy. I won't go in there with you, I want you both to have a private discussion", she said. Joan pointed to a door and told me it's mom's ward. I sighed deeply and opened the door gently.

The room was dark, I couldn't see anything. I turned on my flashlight on my phone to find the switch to turn on the lights. When I did, I gasped at the sight of my mom. She was so pale and skinny, wires were connected all over her body. "Emma.. Emma, oh my, you are final here. My sweet child",mom said in a weak voice when she saw me. She was happy to see me. "Mommy",I said in a shaky voice as I walked towards her.

" My baby, I'm so sorry",she apologised with tears in her eyes. "It's fine mom",I said trying not to break down in front of her. "I know you are hurt. I'm so sorry, Emma. Please forgive me, forgive this old stupid dying woman",she cried. " I forgive you, mom. I forgive you",I assured her with tears in my eyes.

She held my hand, I stared at her. She has changed, she looked so different. Her once bright eyes now dull and lifeless. "Thank you for coming",mom said still holding my hand so tight. "I'm sorry for not checking on you all this while. I've been busy with school",I apologized and she smiled weakly.

" You look so beautiful, Emma. My sweet girl",she said with a smile and I chuckled. " Thanks Mom",I Said. " I thought about sending Joan to you but I wanted it to be a private thing between us",she said and I nodded. " Do you have a boyfriend now?",she asked and I was shocked. I didn't expect that question.

"I don't have a boyfriend. Why are you asking about that? We should be talking about something more important",I countered. "This is important as well. I need to know, is there any secret admirer anywhere? Or any guy you are messing with?" She protested and my face was flushed. " There's this guy his name is Lucas. It's not that I like him but there's this weird thing going on between us",I said with a sigh and mom eyes widened.

"You've met him?" she muttered almost quietly but I heard. "Met who?",I asked confusingly. "Don't bother. What's this guy's full name",she asked. " Lucas blackwood",I replied and she gasped. " Mom, what's wrong? Should I call the doctor?" I asked her almost panicking.

"Emma, you are very special. You are a special child by all means do not let anyone have sex with you without them having true feelings for you and vice versa",she warned in a stern and serious voice. "Okay mom",I nodded. "Lucas, do you like him?",mom asked and I frowned at the question. " I don't know, mom",I replied sincerely. " Don't stay away from him. You both are destined to journey this life together",she said. Journey this life?

" What do you mean by journey this life together mom? I'm confused",I said. " You both are destined to be by each other's side. You are destined to hold hands with him",she stated and I was more confused.

" Mom, you are confusing me. Just tell me what the thing is already",I groaned. She took in a deep breath as if she is about to reveal something that will break my heart. "Your fath....",she was talking but was interrupted by the sound of the door. " Emma", Astrid said, obviously shocked and I frowned. "What are you doing here?" I asked.
