Beneath the Veil of Lies
Ashina POV.
Seated beside Lobo, my vision seems blurry.
I could barely see anyone’s face, but I could hear what they said.
Most of them cried and sympathised with her family who were also present in the park meeting.
The news about Estel was that she tried to poison me, and when I noticed she picked a fight, that was what resulted in my scars and the Alpha just happened to come right in time to save me from being hurt.
And then I hear people telling him how good he had been to them and the park, these fools showered him with praises and he boldly took them.
I didn’t respond, I didn’t say anything, I just watched how they talked badly of her just to please him, and when they were done, the alpha had told the park to make a test on me, he wanted to be sure if his baby was still alive.
He didn’t care if I wanted to keep the baby after he beat me.
The physician finally confirmed it that I was fine, now he went back to his library, or let me call it his brothel.
Anytime he excuses himself to go study, he was either inside his private chambers or he was fucking someone in the library.
‘I hate him.’
I was left all alone, for hours, I stared outside the window, mostly trying to think of something otherwise but nothing seems to surfice.
I kept on getting flashes of when Estel was alive.
The last time I saw her alive was when she hugged me, feed hours back.
I should have held her a little bit longer. And I should have told her I loved her for putting herself through such inconvenience.
Now I was left with nothing. I couldn't even tell her a proper goodbye.
I stood from my bed. Then dressed up as usual, Alpha Lobo had demanded bed rest, I wasn’t allowed rose visitors, nor step out of my door.
But I could not be content with myself anymore , the more I laid on the bed, the more I grew miserable, so I wore my clothes, checked the passage for guards.
The hallway was void of anyone's presence so it was easy for me to quickly move out of the park building.
On several occasions, Estel had described her house for me, so it was easy for me to locate, the park was still buried in the agony so no one noticed me when I passed them.
Lobo had told them that the rogues had gotten into the park members, that there was a snitch among themselves.
All this was a lie, he wanted to make his story so believable, he wanted to be seen as a saviour and the best Alpha there was, but that was a lie, and now I was fully aware of how dirty minded he was,and funny and heartless he was.
I finally got to Estels house, their family was now cast away, it was deserted from a mile away, no one wanted to interact with them because they felt their entire family had been contacted by wolves.
I was the sole reason why they suffered this much, and as a fellow wolf I could already tell how hard it would be for a wolf to be cut out from the park, it meant no protection from the Alpha, no sense of livelihood, they were not to fight among the other wolves in times of battle.
It was all because of me.
I knocked at the door, I could already hear them whimper inside.
“It’s me, Luna,” I said.
They hesitated , but soon, a peephole was opened.
“Hey, may I come in” I tried my best to sound as harmless as I could, I just wanted them to know if the entire park chose to leave them out, I would stand with them all throughout my stay here, I wanted them to feel safer.
“Luna?” The peephole was shut immediately.
Disappointment caressed my mind, I shouldn’t have expected more from them, beside I was the damsel in distress in the fabricated story.
“I know you might be scared, but I mean no harm, I just want to talk with you”
Silence…
They hesitated a little, then I heard the hinges unlock, and the door opened.
Their house was almost stark black if not for the aid of a weak candlestick.
“Hey” I said to the little girl who was sent to open the door.
She didn’t respond, which was fair enough, I could already sense her fidgeting.
Estels' family consisted of four wolves and a pup.
She had a husband who worked solely at the construction sector of the park, but now I am guessing he doesn’t work there anymore since he was at home.
Her only son, who wanted to be a part of the foot soldiers, was the most enthusiastic of her children, but staring at him, I could only see the defeat in his eyes.
She had two daughters, who were barely the age to shift, and now they might not be able to attend the shifting ceremony when it’s their turn.
“ I am sorry” I started.
“I loved Estel, and I wouldn’t want you all to recent her, or listen to what everyone out there is saying concerning her, Estel was a good lady, till the time of her date,”
“Luna, that disgrace of a mate tried to kill you, she betrayed us” said her husband.
“No please don’t say that!, Estel would never do that”
“Then why was she killed?” her son asked.
I could not provide an answer, I was left speechless, I told them the real truth, it would result to two things.
They would know the real truth and might start a riot or a coup, I would be embarrassed and ridiculed for killing and causing the death of a wolf.
While in the other hand, I let them grieve over the death of their mother, and wife, and then I take care of them for the rest of my life.
