Shadows of Duty and deception
Ashina's POV
“I know everyone of you have shared from the incident, but I believe she only did it for a prize, Estel wanted to pay for your fees in the academy” I said to her son, who asked the question.
It was a lie, but I have heard her talk to her son concerning her inability to pay in full, she wasn't the type of lady to ask for a raise more than she was already given so I didn't want to intrude on her choice.
If she wanted me to take care of her family on her behalf after her death, then it was only reasonable for me to help her do the things she would have done if she was here.
“Yes, but she didn’t have the money, you know your mother loved you dearly, she would do anything to see that all her children her happy”
The stifled squeak of her little child pulled my attention to the silhouette figure at the side of the room, her last child was already deranged in tears.
My heart squeezed with so much guilt, I reached over to her then pulled her in my arms.
“I will take care of you, I promise” I coaxed her.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anyone of you suffer anymore than you already are, and if the moon goddess would shine her bright light on your family, your grief would lessen with time”
He held the shoulder of his son, his hands squeezing occasionally, he was equally suffering the pain of detachment.
“Thank you for your support,” said her husband Josh. “I really appreciate what you do for me, and I am deeply sorry my mate had done this to you, if she was alive she would have apologised”
I would be the one apologising instead, but I didn’t say it, I let them console themselves with words before I finally walked away from their house.
I had new responsibilities now, I would make sure they didn’t lack food, water, money to trade. Lobo might be wicked, but I had all the access to luxury however I wanted, whenever I wanted, he didn’t hide his wealth from me.
So giving them a share every now and then wouldn’t be bad.
With the scarf over my head, I walked back to the park house.
“The Luna is missing, someone took the Luna” another suddenly said as I got close to the pack.
"He is not close to us. Get in," my wolf sneered but I gently crouched down, trying to catch a whiff of his scent of he's truly close or distant.
"You no longer trust me, right?" She asked but I silently responded, "please be calm, I have to be certain about every criteria before stepping back to the pack. Can you help me check if there's any guard in the hallway?"
"There's one and he's searching for you. Once he doesn't find you in a few minutes, Lobo will find you himself and you know what that means," she replied.
I felt a bit threatened by those words but I accepted my fate - to always face threat, every now and then, by close or distant people.
I could sense frustration growing in the guard, and I thought it was the best chance to get in and shut him up. I was the Luna and I had control over every wolf, apart from the Alpha. Though I wasn't treated with such respect, I still maintained my position.
How to get in and get goodies for the family of Estel really worried me and I would risk my life to do this. It could serve as a last respect I would be paying to Estel for making her pass through that hell.
The person who held the sound system quickly conveyed to everyone gathered in the pack about how everyone could now be merry after many series of tears and sadness about Estel's departure and her unfaithfulness to the pack which caused her death.
Her death didn't pain me as much as the accusation made against her. How could an innocent woman suffer for something she never knew about? I needed to revenge on her behalf but my people were still there, being protected while I was being maltreated to save them. I couldn't revenge on her so easily, and I knew it might take forever or centuries if this would happen at all. And by that, I meant the proper revenge which Lobo deserved.
There were a lot of girls that had same or close body size as mine, so I took the chance and walked into the pack, mixing with them as they ran and cheered. Though I was pregnant, but they were many enough to cover my face even if I was being spied. I couldn't be easily spotted.
Luckily, they happily ran towards the hallway like though they intentionally came to save me. I walked fast right in the middle of them, feeling weak already but I couldn't bear to give up at this point. I would be caught and if Lobo ever realized that I left the pack to check up on Estel's family, he would suspect that I had told them the truth, and give me the deserved punishment.
The girls wanted to change their direction and I was panicking already. I didn't have a way to convince them as they all looked too joyous to bend their ears to listen to a pregnant woman amongst them.
But as they took another direction, I stared at the last route that led to my room, the room Lobo would come to, and fuck me straight there mercilessly. I knew there would always be guards there, but I was ready to defend myself with words if caught.
I quickly left the ladies and waved my hands at the few that looked back in shock. Perhaps they were afraid that someone was disguising to be one of them.
As I approached the room, I didn't cross the path of any guard nor did I sniff any scent in the air. My mind was pounding hard in my chest as I assumed that Lobo must be inside the room, waiting for me.
Perhaps he had sent guards of my way so I would be so confident to come to the room and stay there innocently.
As I got in, I slammed the door shut but didn't lock it. I walked over to my bed and sat there.
As I pushed my pillows under my head, the door flunged open and revealed the horrifying eyes on Lobo's face.
