Amelia, a werewolf whose transformation has remained an elusive mystery, was brought into the world by a human mother. Her father, a wolf bound by the call of his true mate, abandoned them, casting a shadow of scorn upon Amelia and her brother due to their mother's heartache. Yearning for a fresh start, Amelia follows her brother's lead and ventures to a new state. She manages to find employment and a place to live. But then, there's the matter of her mate. On that inaugural day, not only does she fathom the workings of an espresso machine, but she also stumbles headlong into the unrelenting clutches of fate. The revelation of her mate is an unexpected jolt. The lingering query is whether she can prove herself worthy of him. Can she rise to the occasion and become the mate and wolf he requires to claim the mantle of the next Alpha of his pack? Or will a clandestine secret from her past, lurking in the shadows, snuff out any glimmer of a future together before it can even take flight?

Prologue

My name is Amelia, I just turned 18 years old, and I am a werewolf. My mother is human and she met my father when she was in her mid-twenties, she wasn’t his mate but he still married her. During their marriage they had me and my brother Liam. My father was a werewolf, and when I was only a couple of months old, he left us when he found his mate. My mother said that it was because he was too scared to be a father, and maybe that was true. We had never lived with a pack, so my brother and I did not know much about our kind. We knew what we were, but we never shifted or even been around others like us, as far as we knew. My mother remarried when I was 4, and I guess you he was nice, but he had his temper. He was also very possessive and always tried to keep tack of everything my brother and I did or went.

I was always the shy and quiet type, and my brother was always the first one to fight anything he found unjust. Hence, he and our stepfather did not get along well. I hate conflict, and I was always quick to apologize even if I did nothing wrong. At school I didn’t really socialize much, because I was too shy. So, growing up I didn’t have many friends, I think most people found me a little odd. I preferred reading under a tree than talking to anyone. We also didn’t have as much money as the people I went to school with, which also made me feel more different from them. I had the basics and that was it. I didn’t mind, because I liked things simple and basic.

Liam was a stud at school and all the girls chased him, but he was a romantic at heart. We knew that wolf’s had a destined mate, but my mother always said such a thing would just ruin our lives. To her, mates were just an excuse to run from responsibilities. Liam believed in mates and when he turned 18 he decided to leave home and move to Washington and become part of a pack up there. He couldn’t live at home anymore and he wanted to learn more about our kind. I was jealous of him, and I had to live two more years at home without him. He would text me every day and tell me everything he had learned at his new pack.

Last year he found his mate, a sweet girl named Olivia. I had not met her yet, but when Liam found her, he video chatted with me right away to meet her. We have grown close and she has become the sister I never had. She is a year older than me, and always treats me so sweetly. I think Liam and her are perfect together, and the moon Goddess had picked the perfect mate for my brother. They moved in together at a pack house a few weeks ago and they are really happy. I knew that soon I would have the pull of wanting to find my mate, because it is inevitable, but I also didn’t think I would find him. The world is huge, and he could be anywhere, but Liam would offer constantly that I come to live at his pack and see if my mate was there.

My parent’s hated that Liam left to live with werewolves, so they hardly spoke. I was scared to lose them if I followed my brother. So, I told my brother that I would move but not move in with the pack. I searched for apartments not far from Liam and found a studio apartment for rent above a café. It was perfect and I couldn’t wait to start my new life there. Now I just had to tell my parent’s what I was about to do. They always said they wanted us out by the time we turned 18, because we had to learn to be on our own. I turned 18 a week ago and today at dinner they asked me when I would be out, so I told them all about my plans to move to Washington and be close to Liam. They were not happy and didn’t say much. Today I fly to my new home and I start my new life.
