Chapter 44

“There is another baby!” Natalia says looking back at them.
“But the doctor didn’t say anything about there being two heart beats or babies during my exam!” Amelia says.
“Well, your pregnancy progressed so quickly, and we only did the one. Sometimes one twin will be hidden during scans and we don’t catch it until later on.” Natalia explained.

Amelia let out a groan as a new wave of contractions spread through her, but she was worn out. She was exhausted and thought here was no way she could do this again. There was no power left to push out the other baby.

“I can’t! I can’t do this!” Amelia says with a cry.
“Luna, that is your baby in there. The little blessing the moon goddess has given you! That baby is a part of you, and it wants to live and meet you. If you don’t help it come into this world, who will? If you don’t push you may lose it, and you will feel heartbroken if that happens. You have done so much, but now you need to give just a little more and let your baby meet you. Can you find just that last bit of strength inside?” Natalia says.
“Ok. Ok!” Amelia replies taking in a few quick breaths and pushing with he last bit of strength she has left and with that last push another cry was heard.
“It’s a girl!” Natalia says happily.
“A girl?” Amelia asks in happy disbelief.

Natalia quickly cuts the umbilical cord and wraps the surprise pup in a warm blanket before handing her to the new mom.

“Congratulations Alpha and Luna! You have two healthy pups!” Natalia excuses herself and leaves the new parents alone with their new pups.
Owen wraps his arm around Amelia and hugs her tightly, whispering all his love for her into her ears as they cradled their newborn babies.
“I can’t believe we have two babies!” Amelia says between her happy tears.
“I know! But they are beautiful! Look at their eyes!” Owen says.

Amelia hadn’t noticed the baby’s eyes yet with everything happening so fast. She looked down at the little girl in her arms and to her surprise the baby’s eyes were open and looking back at her through shy blinking.

“They are so light!” Amelia says trying to get a better look.
“Really light blue. It’s amazing!” Owen says proudly.
“I wonder why.” Amelia says under her breath.
“I don’t know, but they really are beautiful! Look at their dark hair! At least that came from me, but they look just like you!” He says with a laugh.
“I don’t know, our little boy has your sly smile!” Amelia teases.
“Well than he will have a lot of girls after him!” Owen says getting an elbow to his rib in response.
“He will be a perfect gentleman if he wants to be my son!” Amelia says.
“You did so well Mia! I am so proud of you! You were amazing! But what was that light around you earlier?” Owen’s tone grows serious.

“I don’t really know. It happens when I tap into my power, but I don’t know what it is. The same thing happened earlier when I was with the elder. Except it blasted every back from me and they almost got hurt. This time it went right through you guys and didn’t seem to hurt you at all.” Amelia tries to answer.
“No it didn’t hurt, it felt strange but it didn’t hurt.” Owen says thinking back to what he felt when he was hit by the energy that Amelia had released.
“What did it feel like?” She asks.
“It felt cold.” Owen tried his best, but that that was the only way he could think to describe it.
What it actually felt like was having ice cold water rushing past you.
“When it happened before, the elder thought it was the baby protecting me, but I am not so sure. The moon goddess did not specify what powers the baby or I guess babies would have. In fact she did not mention the other baby at all when we spoke. I wonder if that means this little girl is just a normal pup unlike her brother.” Amelia says.

Owen is confused by her words and looks at her with a blank expression.

“You spoke to the moon goddess?” he asks.

Amelia jus then realizes that she had not mentioned what had happened yet. Or that this had not been the first time that she spoke to the goddess. When it had happened before she did not even consider telling anyone. She had thought it had been a weird hallucination until now.

“Yes, I spoke to her. She came into my mind and told me a little about why she chose me and our baby to help our people. She said I am part of her, that is why I am a white wolf. It is also why I have these powers, even though I don’t really understand them. She said that our baby will grow quickly because we will need him in the battles we are about to face. She called him a sword, and I a shield.” Amelia says her heart filling with guilt.

She immediately saw sadness flash across Owen’s face. He did not ask for this, she knew that. When he had found her those weeks ago at the café, he probably had no idea that she would bring such sadness into his life. His mate was not normal, he would not enjoy the same happiness that others have. His mate was different, and now she had given him children that he would never have a full life experiencing being a father. He would only enjoy a short time before his children would grow to be the very ones he would run into battle with.

Amelia felt terrible for not being able to give him even his own children to have a normal life with. She had taken something so precious away from him, and she could never apologize enough for what he had to sacrifice.

“I am so sorry Owen, I am sure this nowhere near the life you had hoped for.” Amelia says holding back her urge to break down and cry.
“Why are you apologizing? You are the most amazing woman! I could not have asked for a more special mate than you! I wonder why we were chosen to be together because you are far too special to keep as my own.” Owen replies with a soft smile.
“Actually, no white wolf has ever had a mate before, not only fate but the moon goddess also knew we had to be together.” Amelia says sweetly.
“I will thank her every day for this gift, no matter how long we have with them before we have to let go, I will cherish every second! I am so happy to have all of you in my life!” Owen says placing a gentle kiss to Amelia’s cheek. “If you found everything you came for, why don’t we take these pups home?”

In truth she felt like she didn’t find all the answers she wanted, but it didn’t matter. She would have to discover what she was meant to become when the time was right. She couldn’t understand why the moon goddess chose not to explain in more detail what she wanted Amelia to do.
Maybe, she was given this gift for a reason, but it was up to her to discover her purpose on her own. She was to be a protector and a healer, but the way she would become that person had to be up to her. As she thought about it more, it seemed that she was being given a chance. A chance to use this gift to be who she has always wanted to be, no rules and no limitations. It was the gift of being more! Be more to help others, but also to free herself. That was answer enough! The rest didn’t matter now. She didn’t want to waste any more time searching for an answer that was no longer needed.

“Let’s go home!” She says with a content smile.

It was time. Time to let these questions go and find her own way.
