Chapter 37

The walk to the hospital felt like nothing with how determined I was to find out what was going on with me. As soon as I walked in the same nurse I had seen many times since coming her now, gives me a confused look.

“Luna? Are you alright?” She asks me.

I wasn’t sure how much the doctor had shared with her about what he had told me and Owen earlier, but I didn’t want too many people hearing what I had plans to do. So, I decided it best to speak to the doctor only about this.

“I am fine, but I do need to speak to the doctor about something. Is there any chance he is still here?” I ask.
“Yes, he has not left yet, he should be in his office. I will call back to make sure.” She says.

After a few words are passed between her and the doctor over the phone, she hangs up and turns back to me.

“He says you can go back and see him! He is in the office three doors down on the left.” She tells me.

I thank her and offer her a smile to show that nothing is wrong and not to cause any suspicion. I followed the directions she gave me and came upon the office soon after. I knocked and heard the doctor call out to come in, so I took a deep breath and entered. He was sitting behind a desk that had several stacks of folders on it but otherwise it was pretty clean.

“I am sorry to bother you doctor, but I needed to talk to you alone.” I tell him standing behind the chairs in front of his desk.
“Of co0urse Luna! Is something wrong?” He asks.
“Yes, with me and the baby, yes we are doing fine. This is about something else.” I say.
He signals for me to take a seat in one of the chairs. “Oh?”
“I wanted to ask you about the friend you have that told you about the white wolf. I would like to meet them.” I say.
He looks at me confused. “Why may I ask?”
“Because I don’t know nearly enough about it and why I am so different from the past white wolves.” I tell him.
“What do you mean different?” He asks me.
“My wolf Anaya was paired with many of the white wolves of the past, she told me that I am different from them. I have a mate and a pup, and she has never had those things in her past lives.” I explain to him.

He looks at me with the same confused look, but he also looked a little intrigued.

“That is rather fascinating, and if I am being honest I am also curious about why you seem so unique.” The doctor admits.
“So, will you help me?” I ask.
“So, you want to take a trip to speak to my friend in person? Would not a phone call be enough?” He asks me.
“Well, I am hoping he will have more than just stories, maybe a book or a record or something I can look at for myself.” I say.
“I see, well it would be a rather far trip. He lives on a reservation in California.” He says with a shrug.
“Is it still safe for me to fly?” I ask impatiently.
“Yes, for now, but the baby is growing rapidly. You may be able to fly there, but not come back until after the baby is born.” The doctor tries to explain but I am only half paying attention.

My mind was racing. I needed to go soon before I grew too large to fly, as soon as tonight.

“I need to go. Can you give me your friends number?” I ask.
“Yes Luna, but are you planning on going now?” He asks with a distressed look on his face.
“Yes, I need to leave tonight before I can no longer fly. So please give m the number!” I say in firm voice.

He looks at me for a moment before taking out a small piece of paper and jotting down the number and handing it to me.

“Thank you!” I say just above a whisper.
“Luna!” He stops me before I walk out the door. “Take Natalia with you, my nurse. It would eb safe for you not to travel alone and she will know what to do if something happens with the baby. I call her and tell her to go with you as long as you need her.” The doctor picked up his phone and called the nurses desk.
“Hi Nat, the Luna will be traveling to California tonight for a few days. I need you to go with her and make sure she is ok. Take as many days as you need, and you will be paid for those days because she is our patient. Thank you!” He says nodding to me. “Be careful Luna!”

I thank him and turn and walk out the door. I pass the nurse station and pause when Natalia the nurse steps out in front of me.

“You weren’t about to leave without me were you Luna?” She asks with a smirk.
“No, I was just going to wait for you outside. Ready?” I ask her with slight annoyance that my plan was ruined.
“Yep let’s go!” She says looping her arm through mine and leading me out the front door.
Once we are siting in her car she looks at me. “Does the alpha know you want to do this?”
I sigh and look down at my hands. “No. I don’t want to tell him either, but I am not sure how to leave without him asking all kinds of questions. Also, he has a responsibility to the pack, and it would not be a good idea for him to leave right now. They need him! And we may not even find anything, so it would be a waste for him to come with me.” I tell her.

She sits back in her seat and I can see she is cooking up a plan inside her mind.

“Ok, how about we tell him that the doctor wanted to monitor the baby’s growth over night and tomorrow. We can say he asked that you not be disturbed during that time. Then we can at least have tomorrow covered, and we can figure out the rest once we know how long we will be gone. I will drive you home and you pack while I buy the tickets ok?” She says proud of her plan.

It wasn’t the worst idea and with Owen being busy with alpha stuff and training I was sure he wouldn’t suspect anything right away. This was something I needed to do alone. I knew how upset Owen would be when he found out, but his mind is set on different things right now and I can not ask him to go on a wild goose chase when he was needed here. We arrived at the house, and I walked calmly inside. I found Owen sitting alone at the table looking down at his tablet.

“Hi.” I say walking over to him and placing a soft kiss to his cheek.
“Hey, were did you go off to?” he asked looking up at me.
“I just walked around a little, I haven’t seen much since I came here, so I wanted to explore a little.” I lie.
“Oh ok. You are feeling ok though?” He asks. “I know things got a little intense earlier and I am sorry if I came off too harsh. I think my alpha side came out too strong.”
“It’s ok. I understand, and we are not always going to agree but that is normal.
“I guess it is, but I definitely don’t like feeling like we are not in sync.” He says laying his head gentle on my belly and wrapping his arms around me.

I felt the guilt growing as we stayed like this for a few moments.

“The baby isn’t bothering you too much is he?” he asks looking up at me again.
“No, he has been pretty calm. A few hard kicks here and there but nothing too harsh. But speaking of the baby. I spoke to the doctor and he asked if I could stay at the hospital tonight and tomorrow. He wants to keep an eye on the baby and see how fast he is growing. So, I need to pack a few things.” I say stepping back a little.
“Really? He didn’t mention it earlier.” He says looking a little confused.
“I know but nothing is wrong it’s just a precaution.” I tell him moving away from him after his arms loosened around me.
“Do you want me to go with you?” He asks.
“No, I will have the nurse with me so don’t worry. I keep you updated ok?” I say heading up the stairs to pack.

I could look at him and lie any longer.
