Chapter 39

I waited a few moments and as soon as the second man had moved away to search somewhere else I walked toward thee gate. Before I could reach it a hand grabbed me, and I froze. I turned to see a man dressed in a pair of jeans and a plaid shirt but had long dark hair that was braided behind his back and deep tan skin.

“Don’t worry white wolf, I am not with those men. I am here to escort you to California.” He says in a low voice.
I looked at him skeptically and tried to pull my arm away from his grip.
“Luna, you are in danger and we do not have much time.” He tells me.

I am not sure I can trust this man, but he looks like he must be from the reservation we were traveling to get too. He definitely wasn’t with those other men, and that had to be enough for me to trust him for now. I quickly scan the area around me and notice people whispering to each other and watching us. We are drawing too much attention; we need to move somewhere where there aren’t so many eyes on us.

“We need to talk somewhere else.” I tell him.
He looks around now as well, and nods in agreement. We walk off to a pair of seats slightly hidden behind a couple of potted plants and sit beside each other.
“Who are you?” I ask as soon as we are seated.
“The man you are meeting with sent me. He knew you would face some danger.” He says.
“How did he know?” I ask confused.
“He has seen it. Also, word has spread that a white wolf has emerged once more.” He says bowing his head to me.
“I don’t understand. Only my pack knows what I am.” I reply.
“They are the ones who witnessed but your emergence was seen farther than your own home. We witnessed the light even as far as our lands. That is why these men are after you. Your presence was hidden within the boundaries of the pack land, but when you left your aura could be felt.” He explained to me.

What was he saying? What aura? How was it contained in our pack territory?

“I don’t understand what you are telling me!” I tell him beginning to feel frustrated and confused.
“You are a child of the moon, and from it you hold great power. There so much that you do not know, and I do not have time to explain now. We need to leave before we are discovered.” He says anxiously.
He scanned the area once more and the call to board thee plane rang out through thee loudspeaker.
“We need to go.” He says taking my hand and leading me to the bags we had abandoned earlier. He grabbed them and we headed to the desk to board the plane.
“Wait I can’t leave with out Natalia!” I say firmly.
“She is on her way now, but we can not wait. Those men will find you soon! Their senses are weak, but they will be able to pick up your presence soon.” He tells me ushering me forward in the line.

I turned behind me and searched for Natalia, but I was led through the doors without catching sight of her. This man seemed to know things that made me think he was more than a wolf, but what more was there? I had only ever known that werewolves exist, but I had never wonder what other creatures or beings existed outside of our kind. The man continued leading me inside the plane and when we found our seats he asked me to sit furthest inside and away from the aisle.
He repeatedly scanned our area for the men who had been looking for me, but as I followed his actions I did not see the men that I had seen before. What I did see was Natalia walking toward us. I felt relief rush over me, and I stood to greet her.

“Natalia! Where have you been?” I ask her as she takes the seat between me and the mystery man.
Did he even tell me his name?
“I had to take care of a few things.” She said glancing to the man beside her.
“It has been handled then?” He asks her.

Wait, did they know each other?

“Do you two know each other?” I ask interrupting them.
“I will explain everything soon, but yes we know each other.” She says.
“Who is he?” I ask her, feeling agitated by not knowing what was happening around me.
“He is my mate, Alo. He was sent to help us meet the elder.” She says taking my hands gently. “I know this is all confusing to you Luna, but we will protect you and make sure you make it safely before the elder. Once we are there all your questions will be answered. For now, we need to keep your presence hidden! I am sure those men were not the only ones searching for you.” She tells me and handing me a thin blanket.
“What is this?’ I ask.
“It will hide your scent from other wolves that might be here. Please Luna wrap it around yourself and try to keep your eyes low.” She tells me, and I obey her.

What was going on? It felt like I had stepped into a thriller movie and some how everyone was after me. Natalia knew this man from the reservation, they were mates. I hardly knew Natalia, but why would she be living away from her mate s part of another pack? Were mates not meant to stay together? Who was this elder they mentioned? How was I suddenly so noticeable? How had my “aura” been hidden when I was on pack land?
None of this made any sense and the more I tried to understand the more I realized I didn’t know anything about this world. There was so much I still didn’t know and what I did know I didn’t understand. The need to meet this elder was becoming more apparent as more strange things kept happening. But I felt like I was going crazy and I could not wait for answers, I needed to know what was happening.

“Natalia, please what is going on?” I ask her, feeling my frustration turn to sadness. “What is happening?”

When she saw the tears welling up in my eyes, she understood.

“Luna, like I said there is so much to explain but I can tell you the little that I know. When you emerged as the white wolf a light beacon was seen in the sky like Alo told you. I myself saw it and was asked to meet with he elder. He told me that soon the white wolf would need to be brought to him. He told me where to find you and gave me a cloaking spell to cast on the land where you lived. That is why you have been safe there, and only now are people coming for you.” Natalia explains.
“How do they know how to find me? Alo said I have an aura but what does that mean?” I ask her.
Her eyes follow the area surrounding me, and I glance above my head trying to see what she is looking at.
“What is it?” I ask her.
“Some of us who are chosen to protect the white wolf can see the spirit of your wolf that surrounds you. It looks almost like a shinning ghost shadow all around you in the shape of a wolf. Others may not see this, but they can sense an intense energy if you are near them. I am not sure what others feel, but some how they sensed you had left the protection of the cloak spell. This is all that I know, only the elder can answer your question Luna. I’m sorry.” She says lowering her eyes.
“Ok. It’s ok. I am sorry. I am just so confused and then all this crazy stuff happened, and I guess I started panicking.” I say apologizing and letting out a deep sigh.
I needed to relax, and I suddenly remembered I had not taken a proper breath since the man followed me into the bathroom. There was so much going on that I had not even thought about what could have happened if I had gone on this trip alone. With another breath I looked down at my growing belly and was glad I had not been hurt at all.

But if I had an aura around me like Natalia said, how had the men not sensed me. The one in the bathroom had been close enough that he should have been able to sense me if what Natalia said was true. I suppose these were the things I would need to ask the elder when I meet him. It seemed like this elder knew far more than the doctor led on. In fact, this all seemed planned from the beginning, only no one told me.

Fate was at hand and was leading me to the answers I was looking for, I could only hope those answers were worth the risks.
