Chapter 19

[Owen POV]
Seeing Amelia in the house I built for her had to be one of the best moments of my life since meeting her. The way she looks at everything like it is a precious treasure and worth all her admiration. I have never met someone so thankful for such small things, and it makes my heart swell how she appreciates even the small details I put into this place. She has been unpacking for the last half hour, and in that time I have received at least fifty texts from my sister and mother wanting to come and see her. Part of me wants to keep her all to myself as long ass possible, because as soon as she is officially Luna I will have to share her with the whole pack. The other part of me is worried she isn’t ready to meet anyone from the pack just yet.
‘Why don’t you ask her what she wants instead of guessing?’ Samuel says sarcastically.
I roll my eyes at his snarky remark, but have to admit that he is right. Maybe I should ask her more what he wants instead of always assuming I know what she wants.
‘She is stronger than you realize. Give her a chance to show what she can do.’ Samuel reminds me.
He is right, she has been through so much and yet has come this far. As she is able to shift more, her strength will grow. My white wolf, such a rare creature!
‘When was the last time you heard of a white wolf? Because I have not heard of there being a white wolf as long as I can remember.’ Samuel mentions.
Now that I thought about it, I had not heard of there being a white wolf as long as I have been alive. So, our mate is very rare indeed! How did I get blessed with such a unique mate?
“Owen?” I hear her say walking up behind me in the living room.
I had decided to sit and wait for her to come find me when she was finished packing, I wanted to give her space to make herself feel at home.
“Hm?” I mumble.
“I am all moved in! What should we do now?” She asks sweetly sitting beside me tucking one leg under the other as she sat.
“Well, of course I want to keep you all to myself, but my mom and sister have been hounding me to meet you. Would you be up to a visit from them?” I ask.
She looks at me with slight surprised, but her expression softens as she considers my question. Her surprised look turns into a soft smile.
“I would like that.” She replies softly tucking a strand of her wavy hair behind her ears.
“Really?” I ask happily, in which she replies with an enthusiastic nod that makes me laugh. “Great! I will let them know. Knowing them they will probably be here within an hour, is that ok?”
“Oh, sure. Whatever you think.” She replies surprised by my question.
“Why do you seem surprised I asked?” I say with a slight laugh.
“I am just not used to people asking that kind of thing I guess. My parents mostly decided who came to the house, and I would join them and pretty much stay quiet unless asked a question directly.” She explained.
What kind of life is that? She was never asked what she wanted; she just did as she was told. This really must all be so strange to her.
“I always want you to feel like you can tell me what you want. I don’t ever want you to feel like you have to say yes to everything, especially if it makes you uncomfortable.” I reassure her taking her hand and tracing small circles on top of her hand.
“Ok.” She says softly looking at me with a sweet innocent smile. Goddess she is adorable!
Before I could speak again, my phone alert pinged with a message from my sister saying they would arrive soon with a special meal for her new sister-in-law. I chuckled at her message and locked my phone.
“They will be here soon, and they are bringing us some lunch as well.” I tell my adorable mate.
“Ok I look forward to meeting them.” She says politely.
I can see her personality shifting slightly as we wait for my sister and mom’s arrival. She is more proper and composed. I find myself slightly confused by the change, but brush it off as nerves. Not long later my mother and sister arrive and pull me into a hug before brushing me aside and heading toward my mate.
“Oh my! You must be Amelia!” my sister says excitedly, and pulls Amelia into a hug.
I can see my mate hesitate before giving in and hugging her back. My mom does the same thing and then leads Amelia to the couch and has her sit beside her.
“Oh my dear, I am so happy to finally meet you! I thought my son was going to hide you forever!” She says giving an annoyed scowl.
I shrug and walk over to one of the chairs available near the couch.
“It’s really great to meet you both.” Amelia says smiling and bowing her head slightly to my mother.
“Oh sweety you don’t have to bow to me, even if I am Luna. We are family, so you can feel comfortable with us!” my mother tells her patting her hands. “So what do you think of the house Owen had built for you?”
Amelia smiles and gives the house a quick look around. “It’s really beautiful! More than I could ever ask for.”
I smiled proudly at her words.
“Careful Mia, you’ll give my brother a big head!” My sister chimes in. “Is it ok if I call you Mia?”
“Of course! Mia is fine.” My sweet mate says with a nod.
“We brought lunch for all of us, I hope you are hungry!” my mother says happily.
“Yes of course, I will have some!” Amelia replies politely.
My mother takes her hand and lead she to the dining table with my sister and I following them. Some how this felt like a date, and I was the fourth wheel. My mother unpacked a basket of food and we all sat and enjoyed it happily. They asked Amelia the occasional question that she happily answered in her sweet manner. She still seemed soft spoken and shy around them, but they seemed to find it as endearing a quality as I did.
“So Amelia Owen says you were able to shift for the first time recently. Was it bearable? I know the first time is difficult.” My sister said.
“Honestly, I was a bit out of it that I don’t remember much.” Amelia admits.
I give my sister a look trying to convey that the topic is kind of sensitive, but she ignored me.
“Really? That is odd. What color is your wolf?” She asks.
Amelia looks to me, as if to check before answering.
“Her wolf is pure white with a slight glisten.” I explain for her.
My mother freezes for a moment. “Her wolf is white?” She asks seriously.
“Mhm. Why?” I ask her confused by her reaction.
“White wolves are very rare.” She says flatly.
“I figured, I could not recall ever seeing one.” I reply taking another bite of food.
“That’s because there hasn’t been a report of a white wolf in 400 years.” My mom replies.
I look at her in confusion. “Why so long?” I ask.
“I am not sure, but they are supposed to me very unique. I have not read much about them in a while, I will have to look up some information about them.
“Is it bad that I am a white wolf?” Amelia asks worried.
“No nothing like that. In fact from what I remember, white wolves were thought to bring a pack prosperity and victory.” My mom said.
“Wow! Cool!” My sister said eating happily.
Amelia had a look of uneasiness after hearing my mother’s words. She didn’t ask about it again and we all went back to eating in comfortable silence. When we were done eating, I thanked them and ushered them out. Once they were gone, I turned to find my mate sitting on the couch and she looked deep in thought. I watched her for a moment before joining her.
“What’s wrong love?” I ask her.
She doesn’t seem to see or hear me at first. “Amelia?”
She turns to me. “Sorry what did you say?” She asks.
“What’s wrong?” I ask again.
“I am not sure. I guess I had hoped that even though I am supposed to be Luna, that I would just be like any other wolf in the pack. I never thought my wolf would turn out to be so rare. That just means when people find out, they will treat me differently. Owen, I don’t want to people to look at me differently.” She says and I can see tears forming.
“It’s ok love. There is nothing wrong with being different, it just means you are special.” I tell her.
“But I don’t want to be special, I want to blend in not stand out. What if people think I am trying to be above them? How can I be a god Luna if the pack resents me?” She asks letting a tear fall.
“No one will think you are trying to be above them, because that is not you. You are far from boastful and haughty. If they don’t see that as they get to know you, then you are not at fault they are. I think the pack will see it as an honor to have such a beautiful and special Luna leading them. Just like I feel honored to be your mate!” I tell her honestly.
In truth, I am not sure how the pack will react to having a white wolf among them. Despite my father’s cold presence many of the pack members were very warm and kind, but others were more traditional and stern like my father. I did not want Amelia to be burdened by such things though, she already felt bad enough.
“If you would like, we can keep the fact that you are a white wolf from the pack until you wish to share it with them.” I recommend. “In fact, if you are as rare as my mother says, it might be best to keep that information between us for now. Until we know more about it, and what it could mean.”
Amelia nods in agreement before taking a deep breath and whipping away the tears that had fallen.
I wrapped an arm around her and brought her closer to me, giving her a slight squeeze which made her giggle slightly.
“Hey! Would you like to see my wolf?” I ask her suddenly.
“You mean Samuel, in his full wolf form?” She asks happily.
“Yeah, what do you think?” I ask.
“Ok! I would love to see it!” She says.
I stand and take her by the hand and lead her outside. I step away from her and give her a quick smirk before quickly shifting into my big alpha wolf. She gasps at the sight, but when the surprise wears off she smiles brightly.
“You are amazing!” She says with a slight laugh.
Samuel whines and inches toward her with his ears pulled back, standing before her in a submissive posture. I had never felt him submit to anyone before, not even my father the alpha.
“You really are a big soft fluffy wolf aren’t you?” she says reaching her hand out and petting Samuel’s fur.
He moves closer and nuzzles his nose into her and sits in front of her and wags his tail. It was an unusual and funny sight.
“I wish I could shift with you, but I don’t think I would even know how to.” She says a little bummed. “I wish I could hear what you were thinking right now.”
I had mentioned to her before that after she was marked that she would be able to speak with me even in wolf form, but she had not been marked yet. Samuel had wanted to several times since we found her, but I had to pull him back each time. The thing is, he was growing so attached and having his mate was making him stronger and harder to control. I don’t know how long I can pull him back before he mates her even if she is not ready. Amelia rests her head against my wolf head and closes her eyes and breathes deeply.
“Waiting for me must be so hard for you. I know I have not made things easy for you, but I want to do better. I know we should be mated soon, and I am happy you have been patient with me. But I think it’s time! You deserve to finish the mating bond. So I think we should before your ceremony tomorrow, so the pack can see you are not just their alpha but that they will also have a Luna. I don’t want to hold you back.” She says lifting her head and looking directly into my wolf’s eyes.
I can not help but smile to myself hearing her words, she was thinking like a Luna already. She was worried for me and for the pack. She may doubt herself, but she was already becoming an amazing leader.
