Chapter 28

[Amelia’s POV]
As I stood in the middle of the pack, whispering and frightened looks were all around me. I could not help myself fall into my old habits and cower from their looks. I was a stranger to them; they had lost their alpha and their next alpha was unconscious. How was I meant to lead them if they fear me.
‘Remember to explain to them what you have been told. That voice you heard was the moon goddess herself, and she has a plan for you. Tell them you only wish to protect them, and they will believe you. When you are done telling them, then shift and show them what you are!’ Anaya tells me.
I closed my eyes for aa moment and tried my best not to let my fear over power the importance of what I needed to do. With one last deep breath and with some help from Anaya, I mustered up the courage to speak up.
“Hello everyone, you may have heard that your next Alpha, Owen, had found his mate. I am happy to tell you that I am his mate and have been very much looking forward to meeting you all. I had planned to introduce myself at Owen’s appointment ceremony, but that was not possible because I was taken prisoner by this pack’s beta. It had been the plan of the alpha to have me killed and for Owen to mate with Alpha Cole’s daughter Brittney, who in fact he was having an affair with. Owen was also tied up and tortured at the hands of his father, but I was able to eventually break free and help him escape. One we both were free; the beta was killed along with several men who were willing to kill the future alpha.
Owen and the alpha fought, and Owen was gravely injured thanks to the help of Alpha Cole’s daughter assisting the alpha in their fight. I was able to attack and chase them to the border, where I was overpowered by some of Alpha Cole’s pack allowing them to escape. I did not want us to meet under such sad circumstances, but it seems it could not be helped. I know that right now it feels like you are wandering without anyone to lead you, but I assure you that is not the case. Because if you allow it, I would be happy to help this pack feel secure again until the time that the new Alpha can be appointed. Although I have not officially been made Luna, Owen and I have completed the mating bond and I am happy to take on the roll if this pack is willing to have me.” I tell them.
“Miss what was the light we saw?” Someone asked from the group.
“I know this may seem hard to believe, and I understand if it is. It seems I have been sent here by the moon goddess to help fight against something very dangerous in the future. She has foreseen a dangerous time and had sent my wolf as a weapon to help you fight. You see, I am the white wolf. You may have heard stories about them far in history, and if you have heard such stories you know the White Wolf is sent only when a great evil threatens our kind. I was sent to give you hope that you will not have to fight on your own, that you will have something the enemy will not and that is hope.” I reply.
“You are saying the moon goddess sent you? How can we know what you say is truth?” Another voice yelled out.
“I will show you what I am, and I hope then you will see that my only purpose here is to protect and fight along side you!” I say, lowering myself to the floor.
Anaya takes over and I swiftly shift in front of the pack, listening to their gaps of surprise as my pearl whit fur shimmers in front of them. I lift my head to look at the pack once more and I see a crowd of wolfs kneeling before me. I watch them with slight confusion and pride.
‘They have accepted you!’ Anaya says happily.
“LUNA!” They say in unison.
Because of their acceptance I can feel a bond connecting me all to them, and a thousand voices running through my head. I was linked to each of them now simply by them accepting me in this way, I had become one of the pack. Without ceremony, without blood but I was one of them!
“I promise to fight alongside you and protect you until my last breath!” I tell them through our link.
In that moment the howl that rang through the meadow where we stood together shook the very earth beneath us. Feeling the power of the pack around me I knew that they were strong and after their alpha abandoned them they were angry too. As much as I knew they should feel hope, anger would motivate them to train harder and when the time came they would be ready to face down the man they hated. There was still much to be done before we would be able to face him and any others who would stand with him. As much as I hoped that Alpha Cole’s pack was his only ally, it was naive to think he would not have others. We would need to prepare for the worst, and that meant we would need allies of our own.
I only wish I knew the Alpha’s reasons for turning against his own son and family, what was he after? There were so many unanswered questions and if we were going to fight, we needed answers. I needed to talk to Owen’s mom, she must have some idea of what the Alpha wanted. We needed to search through his office and any of his belonging to see if they were was some clue as to his plan. I looked around at the pack around me and searched for my brother. With the old Beta dead my brother would be next in line. I finally caught sight of him standing off to the side talking on the phone. When I was closer to him I could hear the concern in his voice. I waited for him to finish his conversation before making my presence known.
“Liam?” I say softly to get his attention.
“Hey sis!” He says in return hugging me tightly.
“What’s wrong?” I ask pulling away slightly.
“I was getting the final death reports from the scout team. I sent them out to patrol the border, and they found several of our pack. They had been killed and…” He trails off.
“What?” I ask him.
“What they found on the bodies has me worried sis. I think we have far more to worry about than the Alpha.” Liam adds.
“What else is there?” I ask confused.
“There are others that wish to cause us harm, and it seems like they may be aligning with our enemy. If that is true, we will need more than this pack to fight them. We need something far stronger.” He says with a look of true fear in his eyes.
