Chapter 33
DAVINA
I stood by the window looking at the island. This place has made me go through more hell than I've been through in years. With the way Jayden loved me and refused to move on, I never thought he'd toss me away this easily. It's heartbreaking to see that he's finally getting rid of me from his heart.
But I won't accept it. I know he's still mad at me, that's why. Even though he acts like he's forgiven and forgotten me, he won't stop mentioning my betrayal at every given opportunity. He's only mad at me, I'll make sure that changes with time. There's still an obvious chemistry between us, that bitch is the only issue I have.
I have to do something myself. I can't keep depending on Madeline, I have no time to waste. The only way I can get Jayden's attention is to separate him from the bitch.
The door opened, I looked back and saw Madeline walking in. Of course she's the only one who can get into my room without my permission. She walked to the couch and sat down crossing her legs majestically. Sometimes I wonder why she feels herself too much, she is such a drama queen.
"Are you going to keep sulking like a loser all day while I look for a way to get you back with my brother?" She asked holding a paper that looks like an invitation in hand.
I shrugged, "You saw him yesterday. He made it clear to the both of us. You don't want me to incur your brother's wrath on me. He no longer looks at me lovingly like before, he won't hesitate to deal with me."
"So you're saying you finally give up now? I expected more of you but then, you have done what you know how to do best. Disappointment." She frowned.
I shook my head, "That's not what I mean. I just wanted to lay low for now, I don't want to give them any reason to be suspicious before I strike."
"I suppose you must have a master plan for this sword you want to strike. I had a plan in mind but maybe I should leave things to you. It seems you have everything under control." I noted the sarcasm in her voice.
"Stop teasing me Madeline. You know I'm open to any suggestions from you, it's just so tiring."
She sighed and stretched the card to me. I collected it and read the content, it's an invitation by Beatrice and Damien Fernandez. A birthday party holding tonight? And they deem it fit to tell people when it's almost time? Who does that?
"I don't think I'm interested in going to birthday parties. How's that going to solve the problem we have now?" I asked not getting the point.
She palmed her face, "You're actually so dumb Davina."
Okay that's offensive. Why would she call me dumb when she's not making any sense either?
"If this invitation reached you, it means my brother will be there with that slut. This is an opportunity to get closer to him." She explained.
"Okay... But how am I supposed to do that? She's always all over him. How do I pull her out?"
She whispered in my ear. That sounds like a great plan. Hopefully it works, if not I'm out of ideas for now and I don't know what's gonna work.
•••••
Evening came, I dressed up in the black dress Madeline gave me and even made my hair the way she asked. Then I picked up the gift she gave me to give the couple, since I could not pick one myself. If it wasn't for Jayden, I don't think I'll be interested in going for this kind of party. I know a lot of influential and great people will attend but none of that matters to me now.
Madeline came back fully dressed and also holding her own gift.
"Perfect. Remember to work according to the plan. Make no mistakes." She ordered.
I rolled my eyes, "Yes, boss."
"No need to be sarcastic. Let's go."
She walked ahead while I followed her. We got to the hall on time, a lot of people are already around. It feels weird that the both of us walked into the party without our partners. A very boring music is being played at the background. Madeline and I went to say hello to the business associates. I keep looking around for Jayden during the whole time.
We went to the couple, wished Beatrice a happy birthday and gave her our gifts. Then we both searched around for Jayden and the bitch while sitting down. It took almost forever to spot Jayden and her, but they finally came. It made my blood boil so much to see him with her. Thanks to Madeline for making me calm, I'll have surely sent her to her grave by now. She's so annoying and... Why are we wearing the same dress?
It's not the same entirely but then, they're both black, fitted, long and floral.
"It's part of the plan." Madeline whispered to me as if reading my mind.
I nodded without saying anything. Well I hope this plan works out. I watched Jayden walk around with her, their hands tangled together. He introduced her to everyone, I watched her get familiarized with Beatrice while giving her the gift she brought.
Madeline poked me, "I've done my own part. My brother's alone now, go to him."
I adjusted my dress and walked towards Jayden. I saw the bitch was still with Beatrice which made me feel more relaxed. I heard Beatrice is very talkative and fond of the bitch for some reason, I'll have enough time to spend with Jayden then.
"Hi Jayden." I said stopping in front of him.
"Hi. You look great." He complemented.
I blushed secretly, at least he appreciates my look.
"Thanks Jayden. You look handsome, as always." I also complemented him.
It's not a joke. Jayden is a very good looking man. I was foolish enough to let someone else deceive me when I was younger thinking that person was cooler. That was the biggest mistake of my life.
A waiter passed with drinks, he deliberately turned another side of the drinks towards Jayden. I wanted to take that, Jayden took it instead. When I wanted to protest, he secretly winked at me and left.
Then I saw Madeline giving me signs from afar. Oh, she's responsible for this then. I can't deny, she's so fast and is a genius. She had this all planned perfectly, I hope it works out with him.
"Where's your girlfriend?" I asked watching him take all the drink.
"She's over there." He pointed at a blank space after taking all the drink.
The waiter passed and he dropped the glass, taking another drink. I watched him drink everything again, he rubbed his eyes while doing this. I collected the glass from him, I have no idea what Madeline put in his drink but it's effective.
"Jayden, are you okay?" I asked him. He seems to be dizzy and seeing things. He keeps looking at me strangely, like he's trying to figure who I am.
He hugged me, "I love you."
That made my heart beat stop, I looked forward and saw the bitch standing behind him.
I smirked, "I love you too darling. You finally came back."
The bitch turned around and stomped off. Just then, Jayden jerked up holding his head. He staggered away without looking at me. I tried following him, someone pulled me back. It is Madeline.
"Don't force it. We still have a lot to do tonight. This is just the beginning." She told me.
MADELINE
"What do you mean? Whatever you put in that drink is still affecting him. Aren't you afraid your brother might hurt himself?" Davina protested.
I scoffed, "You don't care about my brother more than I do. He's my brother remember? Don't worry. He's going to be fine. That substance is just to make him dizzy and mistake you for the slut, then you'll get closer."
"Yeah he did, except he's regretting it in the next thirty seconds." She folded her arms.
"That's how it works. You don't expect me to use something so dangerous on him. The effect of the drug only lasts for a few minutes. Then he becomes normal and dizzy at intervals till the drugs wears off."
I planned all this from the beginning. I had someone watch my brother since yesterday. After receiving the invitation, I came up with a plan. I got the information on the dress my brother bought for that girl. I decided to buy something similar for Davina, that would be suitable for my plan.
I may seem jobless now but there's no way I'm going to let my brother end up with that woman. I won't let that witch take over everything I've worked for. My brother wants to be serious with her and looking at his age, the pressure from mom, the society, he may want to settle down with her. That witch will become a part of this family and rule over me.
I know my brother will never be able to stay with Davina. Mom's never going to allow it, she hates Davina a lot. My whole family does, after what she did to Jayden. No one wanted her around him, yet she still wants to be with him. I'll help her get together with him, even if it won't last long just to get rid of that slut.
"How long will it take to wear off?" She asked again.
"When he sleeps and wakes up tomorrow, the effect will be all gone. As easy as that." I told her sipping my drink.
She took a drink from a passing waiter, "That bitch is everywhere I go. I just can't seem to get rid of her for even an hour. I was enjoying my conversation with Jayden before she came and ruined it."
"Patience. That's all it takes."
A familiar figure stood in front of us. I raised my head up and glared at him.
"What do you want Jerry?" I asked him.
He smiled, "Can I sit?"
Davina frowned, "You! What are you doing here? You're not welcome!"
He smiled and took a seat. That's the problem with Jerry, he takes everything as a joke. He's always smiling even when he's annoying you.
"I never asked you to seat with us." I reminded him.
"Come on, this is a party and a public place. I can seat anywhere. Besides, I don't think it's proper to send an already seated guy away. Where are your manners ladies?"
"What?! Seriously? You're the one to teach us about manners now? You stupid..."
"Davina that's enough." I stopped her.
"Thanks." Jerry continued to smile.
I scoffed, "Tell me what you want Jerry. I know you didn't come here to sit with your rival's sister just to make fun of her. What do you want?"
He looked at Davina who is fuming, then back at me.
"You both seem to be fishy. I only came to sit. Perhaps you have something to tell me?" He asked instead.
Jerry is clever. What exactly does he want me to say to him?
"I believe you and I have no business whatsoever together. So I don't know what you're talking about."
He sighed, "I don't like to talk much beautiful. I only have a question. Why did you drug your own brother?"
My eyes widened, so did Davina's. Her mouth hanged open, I had to tap her to compose herself. Jerry had a satisfactory smile on his face.
"What are you talking about? What nonsense..."
"I have proof, just in case you want to argue. You sent this guy right?" He showed me the waiter I bribed on his phone.
I wanted to snatch it but he's too fast. He put it back in his pocket with a smile. Davina was dumbfounded and couldn't say a word.
"That's none of your business you know." I told him.
"But your brother would mind." He threatened.
I sighed defeated, "What do you want?"
He smirked, I know this won't be good.
