Chapter 43
JAY
(Continued)
"Why is no one giving me an answer? Are you two going to talk or should I make you?" Mom asked for the second time impatiently.
Madeline was unable to say anything, her face portrayed anger but I don't care.
"It stops here Madeline. Tell mom what you did or I'll help you." I told her.
She scoffed, "What have I done? All I'm trying to do is save you and the family from harm. You only see the wrong in it. It's your fault not mine."
"What? What are you saving him from?" Mom asked again.
"She drugged me because she wanted to separate me from my new girlfriend. She has made it clear that she has every right to make decisions for me. So she has taken it upon herself to interfere in my life."
Mom's eyes widened, "Madeline! You drugged your brother! How could you do something so evil to your own brother?"
"He is dating a whore and a scheming gold digger. All she is going to do is tear this family apart. I don't like her." Madeline replied mom with no remorse.
"That's not for you to decide Madeline! I have told you so many times not to butt yourself in other people's business. You have gone too far this time." Mom scolded her.
"Calm down mom, I already told her not to bother the poor lady anymore. I've met Carla mom, she is a sweet person. I don't see any reason why my brother shouldn't be with her. He loves her." Samantha added.
"You all have no idea who that woman is. I won't stop till I expose her!" Madeline yelled feeling pained that no one is on her side now.
"That's enough Madeline! You have done enough and I am asking you to stop right there. It's not your decision to make for your brother. Let him be!"
"She thinks being with my ex Davina is much better. They have become best friends now." I added.
"What?! That girl is back? How dare you try to set him up with someone who almost destroyed him? What kind of person are you?" Mom yelled loudly.
"Because Davina's so much better than your so called Carla. She's changed and willing to prove that to you. If only you would give her a chance." Madeline stated.
"That's not fair Madeline. You should mind your business and let him live his life. This is absurd." Samantha frowned.
"Shut your mouth! I wasn't referring to you! You have no business bringing your thoughts into this." Madeline yelled at Samantha.
"The reason why I suspended her is so she would change but she is not willing to. I am sorry but this time I may not be able to stop myself from doing something worse." I warned.
"I will support you if she doesn't change. You are going to have me to face if you make me change my mind. Be careful Madeline, that's enough." Mom also warned her.
Madeline stomped away angrily, while mom came to me.
"My dear, you finally decided to move on from Davina. I am so glad you moved on. But I want to meet this girl who could capture your heart, I need to know if Madeline's right or not." She said.
"She's sweet mom. That's all you need to know. Madeline's so wrong about her, Carla is not what she portrays." Samantha defended her.
"I'll know that when I meet this girl. So, bring her to me son." Mom replied.
"I will mom. But not now. I'm quite busy these days, I will definitely bring her to you. I promise."
She smiled, "I trust you my son. Leave Madeline to me, I'm going to talk sense into her."
"Yes, mom. I have to go now, I am very tired."
"Yes my dear, go ahead. Samantha and I will be going to bed soon enough."
"Good night." I said and left for my room. I took a shower first and changed before I called Carla. I already ate dinner before so I don't feel hungry at all. I slept off after speaking with Carla. I don't know how but what I feel now is more than what I felt for Davina. Sometimes I regret ever falling in love with her. I was stupid then, we aren't meant to be. I won't let what happened before happen again, I won't let Carla go.

~ THE NEXT DAY ~
I had a few meetings to attend with my assistant today. One was a general meeting with some important businessmen where Jerry Hank is also going to attend. I would not have gone myself but I want to see him. I won't fight him, but rather ask why he won't stop bothering Carla.
Luckily, he came. He won't stop staring at me during the meeting, likewise I can't get my eyes off him. Once the meeting ended, he left. I didn't get to talk to him because of the people I attended to. Maybe some other time then. My assistant left ahead of me to attend to something else while I headed back to the office. I got back there only to meet Jerry waiting at my secretary's table.
"May I ask what you are doing here?" I asked harshly. The thought of seeing him only makes me angrier.
Why do I hate him so much? It's simple. He is the reason why my father abandoned my mother. Yeah, his fucking mother is the bitch who stole him from my mother. He enjoyed the life meant for my siblings and I while we struggled to get by. The worse thing is that he is not even my father's child. Yet he abandoned his real family for strangers. He has been chasing after me in everything I do, most especially my business. Now he is after the woman I love, what else could make me hate him more?
"I'm here with a message from your father." He said with a smile.
My father? Why would my father send me a message and through this idiot? The last time I checked, we haven't seen each other in so many years. He left us completely, I don't understand what he's talking about now.
"I don't think you came to the right place. You're his family, whatever message he has should be for you and not me." I replied him going to my office.
"Are you sure you are not willing to listen to his message? I came all the way here against my will. Do you think I would want to waste my time with you either?" He asked making me stop.
"Come in." I replied. He came into the office with me. I did not offer him a seat, he looked round my office. Then he faced me with a smile.
"I'm waiting for you. I haven't got all day." I frowned.
"He is sick. He doesn't know if he will make it or not. So he wants to see his real family before he dies. That's what he said." He stated.
"What's that got to do with me? You should know who his real family is. That is none of my business."
He chuckled, "I understand you feel bitter knowing your father spent all his time with us instead of your family. But you are his blood after all, and you should see him. I strongly advise that."
"Your advice is not needed. He can die for all I care. You can leave since you don't have any relevant thing to say." I suggested coldly.
"You're so bitter. I wonder what Carla sees in a person like you. You transfer your aggression to everyone."
That's it. I angrily punched him in the face. He staggered backwards and wiped his bleeding lips. I thought he would charge at me but he didn't.
"Keep attacking me Jayden. I want you to bring out the full beast in you. This way Carla can see the real you, and know who you really are." He said with a smirk.
I wanted to hit him again when someone walked in.
"Jayden!!!" She called terrified. She rushed to my front and blocked me from attacking him any further.
"I told you, didn't I? I only came on a friendly note to deliver his father's message but he attacked me. I don't know what you are still doing with this man Carla. Excuse me." Jerry said and left.
I felt so annoyed, I wanted to attack him but she keeps stepping in the way.
"Stop this Jayden! Why are you picking a fight with him again? I thought we have gone past this?" She yelled disappointed.
"You have no idea what is going on Carla. Stay out of this." I told her.
"Really? What I saw here is you being violent to someone who brought a message from your father. Why are you like this?" She continued.
"He is not my father! I don't have a father, do you understand! I don't want to talk about this anymore." I yelled at her.
"It seems you are not ready to talk now. When you're calm, you know where to find me." She said.
"Carla.." She was already out the door. Just great! Now my girlfriend is mad at me all because of that idiot Jerry. I don't care if my father is sick or not. I have cut ties with him the moment he left my mom. He abandoned us and automatically made us his enemies. I want nothing to do with him.
Now I have to think of a way to apologise to Carla. Thanks a lot Jerry. I'll make sure you can't even talk the next time I see you. That's a promise. I walked to my table and picked up my telephone.
"Fiona. Come to my office now." I ordered and hung up.
She came into my office almost a minute later.
"Sir, you called for me." She said nervously. Maybe because of the way I am looking at her, she feels scared.
"Prepare a bouquet of flowers for me. I need them before I close for the day." I ordered.
"Yes sir. Do you need anything else?" She asked almost immediately.
"No, you can leave."
"Yes sir." She left the office.
I fell on my chair exhausted. Jerry is no doubt a pain in my life. He is making things difficult for me than it already is. I should have killed him when I had the chance once. He likes rubbing it in my face that my father left me for him. That is not his fault though, my father is the reason this is happening. No one else is to blame but him.
•••••
I left the office by evening and headed to Carla's apartment. I have been trying to reach her but I could not. Even when the call went through once, she didn't pick up. I sent her several texts but got no reply. The silence is killing me, I badly want to hear from her.
I knocked on the door and waited for a response. She opened the door staring blankly at me. I had the bouquet of flowers behind me with one hand.
"You are not going to let me in?" I asked.
"No. Say whatever you want to say here." She replied harshly. She is still mad at me.
"Can you please let me in? I won't take much of your time I promise. Just give me a few minutes." I pleaded knowing she is determined not to let me in.
"You have three minutes." She moved out of the way for me to come in.
"Your time starts now." She shut the door, then waited for me with her arms crossed.
I already feel nervous because of the way she's glaring at me. Gosh this woman is scary and she's the only one who can make me feel this way.
"Are you not going to say something? Or should I open the exit." She said harshly again.
"I'm sorry." Was all I could say. I honestly have no idea what to say to her at his moment. She still hasn't seen the bouquet with me because I'm hiding it behind me.
