Chapter 52
JERRY
I rang the doorbell for the third time wondering if there is no one at home. As far as Joyce told me, Carla is at home tonight so I am supposed to see her. She has been home since the break up with Jayden, she has refused to see anyone especially me. I don't know what else to do, she's not paying any attention to me. Jayden is no longer with her yet it feels like he's there everyday. This is worse than when she used to date him.
I turned to leave when the door opened, I turned around and truly Carla is home. She stared at me with no expression on her face. Her eyes also look a bit puffy, I wondered what happened to her.
"Hi." I said nervous.
"What do you want Jerry?" She asked in a low breaking voice.
"I came to see you. Can I come in." I answered her.
She moved out of the way, "Do whatever you want." Then she went inside. I followed her into the apartment, I saw the living room littered with alcohol. Has she been drinking?
"Carla, what's wrong? Did you drink all of this?" I asked looking around the room.
She flopped down the couch giving me a hard stare.
"You made this possible. Thanks to you and they evil Davina, I am having sleepless nights."
That made me feel guilty, I had planned this with them after all. She is suffering now because of me, I only want to be with her. Yet the fact that it is making her suffer makes me feel uneasy. Does she really love Jayden that much? She loves him to the extent of being unable to sleep because of him? This thought also made me jealous.
"I apologize for whatever harm I may have caused you unknowingly. That is why I am here to make up for all I have done. Forgive me Carla." I apologized to her.
She shrugged, "Forget it. This was going to happen anyway. I didn't see it coming, the fact that Jayden would not believe me. He doesn't deserve me, I should move on with my life."
"I can't do it. I want to get over him as soon as I can, but I can't. This is so frustrating!" She cried.
I pulled her into a hug, this is the first time I am seeing her cry. I became speechless, and also out of ideas on how to console her. She doesn't even know what I have done to her. If she does, she may never want to see me again.
"Don't cry Carla. There are a lot of people who care about you. Don't lose yourself because of one person, he doesn't know how amazing you are. He's just blind." I comforted her.
She raised her head, her eyes full of tears.
"You must think I am stupid right. I rejected you and went for someone else. Now I am paying dearly for my mistake."
"I don't think you are stupid Carla, now stop saying that to yourself. I have an idea."
Her eyes lit up, "What is it?"
"You may be against this, I think you should go out for a while. Rather than stay home all day and wallow in your own sadness, you could go out and have fun. You may be able to get things off your mind." I suggested.
She smiled, "You know what? That's a great idea." She wiped her face and got up, "How about we go out together to kill the boredom?"
"You want to go out with me? Don't you think Jayden will get mad at you when..."
"He's my ex boyfriend. I can do whatever I want now, he doesn't have a say in my life." She cut me off, "I'll be back." She went into her room.
My smile faded away when she left, even if I am spending time with her, I still don't feel comfortable knowing she's doing this to get over Jayden. It seems Jayden has a lot of influence on her, I'm afraid this trip would not be good. I agreed because of how I feel for her. She came out a while later fully dressed, leaving me speechless as always.
"What do you think Jerry?" She asked turning around to show me her outfit.
"You're beautiful Carla. That's the truth." I replied.
"Awww... Thank you Jerry. Let's go." She pulled me from the couch, we went outside. We got into the car and I drove off, I don't know where we are going yet though.
"Where are we going?" I inquired from her.
She shrugged, "Let's go to the club. I haven't been there in a long while. I miss going there."
I bobbed my head, "Sure. The club it is."
Even if I am not interested in going to the club, I will go for her sake. I drove straight to the club where I had met her before. She got down from the car excited, I haven't even parked my car.
"Come on Jerry! Let's go have some fun!" She squealed excited.
"I'll be right behind you." I replied, she ran into the club while I parked my car.
I got out of the car, the loud music blaring and threatening to burst my eardrums. I entered the club searching for Carla with my eyes. She's pretending to be happy when I can see sadness written all over her. I saw her dancing in the crowd, she also held a drink in hand dancing recklessly.
I moved towards her, scaring the pervert who tried to touch her away.
"Carla." I called, she continued dancing and dragged me smiling sheepishly. I know it is the effect of the alcohol she took at home and the one she is holding.
"Dance with me Jerry! Don't be boring!" She urged me.
"Carla, try and relax. You are overdoing this. Let's go take a seat first." I tried to take her from the crowd.
She pouted, "Let me dance. Come on, I haven't been here in ages."
Her voice was very loud, attracting a few people. I dragged her from the crowd and we sat somewhere. She folded her arms angrily, she scoffed and cussed.
"You are such a boredom. I shouldn't have come with you! Why won't you let me dance?" She complained.
"You are drunk Carla."
"The drunk one is you! You..." Her eyes widened as she stopped her statement, I traced her eyes and saw him.
Of all days, he had to come here today. Her mood changed once the second person came in, that's Davina. He also looked our way, searching for somewhere to sit I think. He stomped over to our place in rage, Carla also stood up.
"What are you doing here with him?!" He barked.
"What are you also doing here with her?" She repeated the question.
"You lost the right to ask her that. She is no longer your girlfriend, you came with someone else, don't make trouble here Jayden." I cut in.
He turned to me with a glare, "You shut up! I wasn't talking to you!"
"Jayden! I thought you came with me? Why are you picking a fight with them?" Davina complained.
Carla stomped away pushing Davina away. I tried to go after her but Jayden pulled me back.
"Stay away from her!" He growled.
I slapped his hands off, we were already attracting people's attention. I don't want to fight with him in public, I rushed after Carla ignoring him. I looked for her everywhere but didn't find her. I went out of the club looking for her to no avail. Where could she have gone? I'm afraid she is drunk and is not fit to go out now. I should have taken elsewhere.
"Carla!" I yelled her name, still got no reply.
I became worried, I called her number and still got no response. Then I saw Davina running towards me, looking worried.
"Have you seen Jayden?" She asked trying to catch her breath.
I frowned, "Didn't you stay back with him? How am I supposed to know?"
"He ran off after you left! I'm afraid he may have seen Carla and they both left together." She informed me.
That's quite stupid. Why would someone stand a woman up and leave with someone else without telling her? Jayden is such an animal. The thought of him being with Carla makes my blood boil so much. My jaw tightened.
"That bastard! He will try to take advantage of Carla because she is drunk."
"She's the one taking advantage of him! She keeps appearing in front of him and flirting with him. She is a dirty whore!" She protested.
"Be careful what you say! Don't ever say bad things about her where I am!" I snarled at her.
She moved back, "Whatever. I'm going to look for Jayden. Keep trying to defend that slut."
I ignored her walking away, still searching the area for Carla. I even drove slowly in my car to see if she's walking around. It was all a fruitless effort as I didn't see her. Maybe Davina is right after all, she is with Jayden. Once again, Jayden has taken her away from me.
I drove back to Carla's apartment, Joyce opened the door. I walked in without saying anything to her. I fell on the couch, holding my head painfully.
"What's wrong? Where is Carla? Didn't you go out with her?" Joyce asked sitting beside me.
"Yeah we did go out together. Jayden came to the club with his ex girlfriend. She got upset and ran off, I did not see her. Davina also came back a while later saying Jayden also left her."
"Wait what? Are you saying she could be with Jayden right now? Why would you let that happen?! Why didn't you go after her immediately!" She scolded.
I sighed in frustration, "I tried to follow her, Jayden stopped me at first. By the time I chased after her, she was nowhere to be found."
Joyce paced around the the living room, mumbling words in anger. She then sat down beside me again.
"What do you want to do now? Are you going to wait for her?" She asked.
"I don't..."
The doorbell rang, Joyce rushed to the door hoping it would be Carla.
"Oh my goodness! Carla! Is she okay?" Joyce exclaimed, I rushed to the door.
Carla was indeed with Jayden, she laid in his arms unconscious. He came inside with her glaring at me.
"She passed out. I think she's had too much to drink." Jayden said.
"Umm... Let's take her to the bedroom." Joyce suggested.
They went into the bedroom while I waited at the living room. At least she has been found that makes me relieved. Jayden came out with Joyce still glaring at me, Joyce got in between us.
"No one is going to fight in my house. You too behave yourselves or I'm going to call the police." She warned.
"My job here is done, good night." Jayden said and left the house.
Joyce turned to me, I guess she's expecting me to leave also.
"I'll also leave now, thanks for everything. Good night." I gave her a light hug, her body stiffened. That's weird.
"Umm... Good night." She smiled nervously, what is making her nervous?
She walked me to the door and waved at me. I drove to a bar and brought a few drinks. I stayed in my car to drink alone, thinking about Carla. I have been so focused on getting her for myself, I didn't focus on what she wants. Thanks to what I did, she is now very unhappy with her life. It is very clear that she loves Jayden, I may never get a chance with her. I regret ever doing anything to hurt her, now I have to live with the guilt.
She won't love me. She belongs to another man.
