Chapter 44

CARLA
I have no idea how I got the strength to be mad at him when I am not. I just don't like seeing him become violent whenever he sees Jerry. I don't know what is going on between them that they are always fighting. This can't just be because of business, it has to be something personal.
"I'm sorry." He said after I threatened to kick him out. He looks so nervous and he's hiding something behind him. I wonder what it is.
"I am not the one you should say that to. You know where to apologise." I told him.
"I'm sorry darling. I brought these for you." He brought out a bouquet of flowers.
My heart fluttered like a butterfly, this is the first time I'm receiving such a lovely bouquet of flowers from a sincere person. The other ones I've ever gotten are from men who want to see my nakedness. Not from a man who sincerely loves me like Jayden.
"You can't bribe me with this. You should know that. I'm not that easy to buy off with flowers." I scoffed pretending not to like it.
"You don't like them? I am not trying to buy you off with flowers. I just.." He sighed, "I'm sorry Carla. You really don't want to see me tonight. I'll leave and come back tomorrow."
What? He's giving up like that? What a jerk? Not even romantic for a long time.
"Wait." I said.
I hugged him from behind and stopped him before he got to the door. His body stiffened. He slowly turned around with happiness in his eyes.
"You forgive me?" He asked hopeful.
I nodded, "I only wanted to test your patience. You failed already, you're so impatient and half romantic."
He smiled, "Thank you darling. I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier."
"It's okay. Give me the flowers." I said stretching my hand. He quickly handed them to me. I put them in my nose and felt the fresh scent.
"Thanks. They're beautiful." I complimented.
"Not as beautiful as you." He corrected me. I blushed, then I remembered I have to ask him what happened between him and Jerry that they hate each other so much.
"Can you tell me why you hate Jerry so much? Why did you attack him when he came to your office with a message from your father? And also why are you denying your father?" I asked curious.
He sat down on the couch, his mood changed to a sad one. This made me feel sad too, it doesn't make me comfortable.
"He abandoned my family years ago. He left us for Jerry's mother, even if Jerry is not her own child. He left his real family to suffer and he adopted another one. He was toxic, he made my mom suffer a lot before he left. I grew up without a father and I was insulted for that a lot. I am whatever I am now because of my mother, he means nothing to me." He explained bitterly.
Oh wow. I thought I was the only one with lack of love from my parents. He's also suffering from losing his father to someone else not related to him. At least he has his mother's love. There is no wonder why he hates Jerry so much. I would do the same in his shoes, still I don't want him fighting with Jerry.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know, this is so hard to understand. I feel your pain, but then you should try and be calm whenever you see Jerry."
"He loves to rub it in my face that my father abandoned my mother. I won't hesitate to kill him the next time he talks to me." He growled.
"What message did he have from your father?"
"I do not want to talk about this anymore. Please Carla." He demanded.
I should not push further. After all, he always respects my decision whenever I don't want to talk about something any longer. I hugged him.
"It's fine. You are not alone. I love you."
"I love you too baby." He kissed me.
The door barged open, Joyce walked in with a frown.
"You guys! Get a room and stop trying to spoil my innocent mind!" She scolded jokingly.
"Innocent mind? Funny." I chuckled.
"Whatever. I'll get a boyfriend so you'll stop making me feel inferior." She rolled her eyes and walked to her room.
"Your friend is a crazy one." Jayden said.
"I heard that!!" She yelled from her room.
I laughed, "She really is."
•••••
Jayden left an hour ago. He loves having dinner with me, though I suggested he does it with his family tomorrow. He talks about how his mother misses having him around. He also invited me to his mansion, but I feel it's kinda awkward to go back there now since I am no longer his call girl. He already treats me like I am more than his girlfriend. He wants to change my apartment, buy me a car and do a lot of stuff.
I am not interested in material things. I have never been interested in them. I decided to watch a movie at the living room, I couldn't sleep. It had also began to rain, so I put a romantic movie to watch. There was a knock on the door a few minutes later.
"Who could that be?" I thought. I have not invited anyone over. Did Jayden come back perhaps?
I opened the door to see Jerry standing in the rain completely drenched.
"Jerry? What are you doing here by this time?" I asked in surprise.
"I want to see you." His words came softly, and he looks weak.
"But..." He fell on me before I could say anything else.
"Jerry! Hey wake up!" I called terrified but got no response. I dragged him into the house and shut the door. He fell on the floor hard, Joyce rushed out from her room.
"Carla! What is going on here? What is he doing here?!" She asked also terrified.
"I don't know Joyce. I did not invite him over. I just found him at the door." I told her.
Joyce bent over and touched him.
"Oh God! He's got a fever! How long has he been standing in the rain?" She exclaimed.
"I don't know. What do we do?" I asked not knowing what next to do.
"Let's get him to the room. We have to take care of him no matter what. We can't just watch him die." She replied.
I dragged him with the help of Joyce to my bedroom. We pulled off his wet clothes and covered him with the blanket. Then we tried to bring his fever down and forced some diluted medicine into his mouth. Joyce also went to make him a soup, we managed to wake him up so he could take it. He slept off after then, luckily his fever died down a bit.
"Thank goodness he's okay now. This is the worst night I've had in months." Joyce said glaring at him.
"Yeah, I feel the same way. I don't know why he did this to himself in the first place or chose to come here instead of going home." I added.
"It's obvious he wants to cause problems for you and Jayden. How are you supposed to explain this to Jayden now?"
"I don't know. Jayden may get mad at me again and refuse to understand. They have a mutual hate for each other. It's going to be so hard."
I can't imagine Jayden coming here and having a fight with Jerry again. It's going to be impossible to stop him this time, he already promised to deal with Jerry once he finds him. Jerry is making things hard for me with what he is doing. He was feeling sick yet he stood in the rain to make it worse. This is being selfish, he is not considering other people's feelings with his actions.
"Maybe you can stop Jayden from coming into your room in the morning. I mean he won't even come in since he's going to work." Joyce suggested.
I nodded, "Just maybe. At the same time, I have to think of the possibilities of him finding out later on. His sister is now stalking me, she could see everything and tell him."
"What? That bitch is stalking you? Why didn't you tell me earlier? Who does she think she is!" She complained.
"She won't let me be. She simply hates me for no reason. She won't stop until she sees me separated with Jayden." I said sadly.
She patted my back, "Let's go to sleep bestie. I'll help and make sure Jayden doesn't find out about this."
"Thank you Joyce. I should not be dragging you with my problems."
She frowned, "Don't be silly Carla. Let's go to bed."
I wanted to stay and watch Jerry, but Joyce assured me he's fine. I went to her bedroom to sleep while thinking about Jayden. Jayden called me later on, we talked and wished each other a good night rest. I could hardly sleep the whole night thinking about Jerry and how much trouble he is putting me in.
•••••
"Wake up Carla! Jayden is here! And Jerry is awake." Joyce's voice woke me up from my peaceful slumber.
I jerked up, "What?! Stay with Jerry. I'll talk to Jayden."
Just when I thought I had found sleep, she comes to give me this bad news. I rushed out of Joyce's room and met Jayden at the living room. He smiled upon seeing me, his face so bright making him so handsome this morning.
"Morning beautiful." He hugged me tight with a bright smile.
"Umm... Morning Jayden. You came so early." I stuttered, not knowing what to say.
He disengaged with a frown, "You don't want to see me?"
"No that's not it. It's just that, I wasn't expecting you so early and... Forget it. I'm saying nonsense. I am very happy to see you." I replied.
"You have dark circles around your eyes, did you find it hard to sleep all night?" He asked me.
Oh dear. He found out that I didn't sleep. This is making me so tense, my palms are sweaty.
"Yeah... I actually watched some movies all night with Joyce. Though she slept halfway just like you did the last time." I laughed nervously.
"Okay? That's not good. You should try sleeping and watching movies during day time. You look like an old lady now." He commented.
I glared at him, "You called me beautiful this morning. Now I look like an old lady? Seriously, you're a jerk."
He laughed, "I'm so sorry darling. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You shine so bright like the morning sun."
"Thanks for the flattery, I still won't forget you called me an old lady." I folded my arms.
I am trying my best not to show how nervous I am and act normal with him. I don't want him to find out that Jerry's here. Hopefully he leaves for work soon. It would be so bad if they saw each other this morning.
"I'm sorry darling but I have to leave now. I have an important emergency to attend to. That is why I came to see you early. I'll be back early today, so we'll have enough time for each other. I've missed you." He said.
"I missed you too sweetheart. I can't wait for you to come back." I replied, hoping he would leave soon.
"I'll see you later darling. Bye." He kissed me before leaving. I watched him get into his car and he drove away. I waved at him as he left, sighing in relief. That was so close. I have to get Jerry out as soon as possible before Jayden comes back from work. I went back to the house, into my room to check on Jerry. He was wide awake and talking to Joyce. I don't know what they're talking about.
"We need to talk." I said, the room fell silent.
