CHAPTER FIFTEEN
AVRIL
I walked towards Ariel's room boiling in anger. I badged into his room without knocking scaring the hell out of him.
"Why did you do that?" He asked after gaining control of himself.
"You knew didn't you?" I asked before shutting the door loudly, I bolted the door afterwards.
"I knew what? He asked me looking completely lost.
I walked towards the bed placing both hands on my waist still fuming in anger...
Ariel relaxed on his bed rubbing his eyes continuously.
"Don't play games with me here Ariel you and I know you know the truth, you always knew........"
"Knew what Avril, why not come out with it already?" Ariel asked.
I was mute for a while unsure whether or not to ask Ariel. Chris lied to me, he told me at first he took a cab giving me doubts because he was panting continuously, then he told me he jogged there. It kind of sounded like it slipped.
Why did they hide the truth from me? Why was Ariel helping Chris to cover up his secret? I thought they weren't friends I also thought Ariel hated Chris so why cover up for him?
"You... You knew Chris was a... You knew Chris was a warewolf, was that why you hated him so much? You didn't want us to be together?" I asked him bringing down my voice.
Ariel sighed and stared at me keenly without uttering a word.
He adjusted on his bed, his face was completely blank. Ariel was really good at hiding his emotions, you can't predict his emotions by looking at his face because his facial expressions were always blank when you needed it the most.
"Ariel please don't lie to me", I said and walked up to him. I sat beside him on his bed and held both of his hands in mine.
Ariel hesitated for a while, cleared his throat and sighed before giving a reply.
"How did you find out?" He asked starring into my eyes.
I scoffed... "So it was true after all?" I asked raving in anger.
"I am sorry I didn't tell you", Ariel replied he went mute for a minute and continued.
"Your reaction right now, I didn't want you to get mad. And if you ask why I didn't say anything all this year, they are reasons that are best known to me", he added.
"That was why you asked me to stay away from him because you thought he was the warewolf that bit me?"
Ariel nodded without uttering a word.
"That monster!" I cursed.
"He didn't bite you, after all, he isn't an alpha", Ariel said.
"How did you know about that?" I asked him.
"I just know", he replied.
"That monster lied to me, he deceived me", I cursed Chris.
"You have to take it easy with Chris, moreover you didn't tell him either about your identity", Ariel said to my shock.
"Don't compare me to him, more over I thought you didn't like him? You have to be on my side". I said angrily.
"I am sorry", Ariel replied raising both hands in the air.
"Tchh!!" I said and hissed.
Ariel kept on starring at me, I always had this weird feeling whenever Ariel stared at me like that.
I felt like his eyes were going to pierce my skin...
"For how long have you known this?" I asked Ariel
"Huh?" He feigned ignorance.
"You don't have to pretend all the time that you don't hear me, Ariel, how long have you known that Chris was a warewolf?" I asked raising my voice.
"You don't have to raise your voice sis, someone might hear you, who knows it may be a dad", Ariel said.
"Tell me", I said in a low tone.
"Can't really say but I think since our second year in junior high", Ariel replied.
"Jeez! And you kept it from me?" I asked disappointed that Ariel kept things from me.
"Yes, just like I hid Tyson from everyone, there are good werewolves but no one would believe me, you all just keep seeing them as monsters and killing the innocent once as well".
"It's mom and dad not me", I said slowly.
"You like it also admit it", Ariel clicked his tongue.
"Yes! But...."
"But nothing princess, I knew I had to protect Chris from you all, I also wanted to protect you".
"Protect me from what? From what exactly Ariel?" I asked Ariel.
"Same thing we are protecting Jumai from", Ariel replied and I hissed.
Ariel always had the right answers, like he knew what you were going to say and had rehearsed his reply even before you open your mouth.
"I am not Jumai", I said bringing my voice down.
"Why? You're both my sisters and it's my duty to protect you".
"Enough Ariel! I perfectly understand now".
"Promise me Avril", Ariel said placing my hand on his head.
"Swear on my life that no one will hear about this from you".
"Are you really going to do this for Chris? Risk your life?" I asked surprised that Ariel was ready to risk his life for Chris even though he hated him with so much passion.
"Please, just do it", Ariel pleaded still holding my hand above his head.
"I swear", I said hesitantly.
"Thank you", Ariel said smiling.
I didn't smile back, I was still boiling in anger, so much anger that Chris betrayed me.
I stormed out of Ariel's room, went back to my room picked up my phone and purse and hurried outside.
I need to teach that monster a lesson.
CHRIS
I ran back home after seeing Avril, I missed her so badly and wanted to see her. I got home and met my domestic staff outside waiting for me.
"Why are you all standing outside the mansion like soldiers?" I asked them angrily.
"We wondered why you disappeared without notice", one of them spoke up.
I didn't really know their name as I thought there was no need to keep stuff like that in my head... I barely called them and even if I needed to I would call any name that comes to mind not minding if I misplaced their names.
Most of the time I'd make gestures at them, sometimes ask after their names and forget it later.
"So when did your work change?" I asked looking from one person to another.
"We don't understand you sir", another domestic staff replied.
"When did you become my security rather than a domestic staff?" I asked them still glaring from one person to another.
"We are sorry sir", they chorused.
"Sorry for yourselves. And this should be the last time something like this should repeat itself", I said.
"We are sincerely sorry, we were just worried that no one saw you leave your room or even the gate, even the security guard......"
"Stop!" I yelled at the domestic staff that was trying to defend their reasons for coming outside to wait for me.
I wouldn't deny the fact that it was cute of them coming to wait for me outside, not only for the fear of getting sacked or landing in prison of anything should happen to me but also the love they had for me.
When I was young I thought they didn't care about me since I didn't treat them nicely, well except my nanny but many occasions had proved that they truly cared about me not just their jobs.
I was guilty of leaving the house through the window and was trying to sound stern to cover up the unlawful act.
"As you can see I am fine now, you all can retire to work now. Also tell the security guard to avoid sleeping on duty", I said calmly trying to shift the blame to the security guard.
They exchanged glances, bowed and returned to the house.
I walked to my room and lay on my bed sighing deeply.
AVRIL
I took a cab in front of the house straight to Chris's house. I wasn't ready to let this slide, how dare he lie to me.
I got to his house and knocked at the gate, the security guard let me in. I walked into the main house and knocked on the door severally before it was finally opened by one of the domestic staffs.
"I am here to see Chris", I said trying to hide my impatience.
"He's upstairs in his room. You must be Avril, you are very pretty", she said with a smile.
I smiled back at her, although it was a fake one.
"Chris.." I called on getting to his room.
He opened the door and stared at me with so much surprise on his face.
"Isn't it late? I thought I just left your place why didn't you tell me when I came around?" Chris asked.
I scoffed gently and walked into the room.
Chris shot the door behind him and turned to me wearing a cute smile.
