Chapter 10

Charlotte'sPOV
I noticed Tyler kept looking at me with a puzzled and angry look, and I turned my head to meet his eyes. "You don't think that because I had sex with you once that I have to fall in love with you or stay with you forever, do you?"
He answered me in a cold tone; "You're overthinking it. In my eyes you are no different from the women who want to climb into my bed."
"You better think so. Because my feet will never stop for anyone." I gathered my clothes, then prepared to leave the house.
"What are you going to do?" Tyler called out to me.
I rolled my eyes at him and said helplessly, "I need to work, otherwise where would I get the money to buy bread and bacon?"
"You can't leave!" He said with some anxiety.
"Why?" His response confused me.
"I'm not healed yet. If those kidnappers find me here, they'll definitely still kill me!" There was a sharp hint of urgency in his tone.
"Then you can still have sex with me?"
Tyler couldn't refute what I said as he rolled his eyes up to look at the ceiling.
To be honest, I wasn't too comfortable with him staying home alone either. As a doctor, out of concern for patient safety. Although I helped him finish healing all the serious wounds, Tyler's body was still weak from the overall point of view.
"OK, you can work with me. But I have some requirements." I tried to go to him to explain.
I held out a finger and said to tyler in all seriousness, "First point. I don't allow you to interfere with my healing process. The second point is that I will not allow you to question me while I am working. The third point, and this is the most important point. You need to keep your distance from me while I'm working."
I try to be that my voice sounds flat. I try to try to forget what happened yesterday when Tyler and I made love at the dinner table, but I keep failing.
Tyler's body has a mysterious attraction to me that I can't resist.
Tyler politely listened to my three requests, and he smiled and nodded. "I promise I'll do what you want. But..."
He paused and said, "But I can't guarantee I can do the third request."
"Oh? Then you'd better stay home." I narrowed my eyes to slits; I knew he wouldn't want to stay home alone.
Tyler laughed out loud as he stood up and walked naked across the room to the other side of the house.
"You might want to put your clothes on." I reminded him kindly, but his face was full of indifference.
"Because you're here, honey," he smiled at me.
"Thanks." I responded to him without enthusiasm, "I think I'd get bored quickly if your body appeared in front of me too often."
He shrugged, then picked up my piece of blanket and casually wrapped the lower half of his body around me to come to my side. He ducked his head and tried to kiss me, but I deftly avoided it.
"I don't like you like that." I whispered to Tyler.
"Why?" He asked me with some frustration.
I couldn't tell Tyler what I was really thinking because it was my responsibility alone to avenge kalay. I didn't want to involve Tyler in this when I didn't know what the future would be like.
"I don't know. I'm sorry, Tyler," I mumbled in a low voice.
I knew Tyler was very frustrated at this point, and I felt a little guilty about him.
I looked up and said to him carefully, "But we're good friends, aren't we?"
He looked me seriously in the eyes and said in my ear, "I know. But I'm far from content to be your friend."
My breath caught in my throat, I understood what he meant, but I couldn't give her a response. So I pretended I didn't understand what he said.
I walked past him and said to him, "You can't get into the hospital with me like that with just a blanket on. Wait, I'll go find you some men's clothes."
Tyler hugged his arms, leaned against the wall and asked, "Why do you have men's clothes in your house? Is it your boyfriend's?" I could hear the jealousy and envy in his words.
"Before I came to Wind Pack, I always wore men's clothes. It saves me a lot of trouble." I chose the largest set of clothes I could find from my closet and tossed them to Tyler.
"Hey! Next. Hurry up and put your clothes on, we should leave for the hospital."
I watched as he put his clothes on, my eyes lingering on him.
"If you were planning on dressing me up as a Barbie bunny, then I have to say, you succeeded." Tyler told me as he squirmed and tugged at the cuffs of his shirt.
"I don't like pink, honey," Tyler grumbled, frowning.
I didn't want Tyler to ruin my fun, so I still urged Tyler to not care about the color of his dress and hurry up and go out to work with me.
"It's okay, it looks good on you." I said sincerely.
"Really?" Tyler grinned.
"A thousand percent true."
I took my medical kit with me and went with Tyler to the patient's home.
As Tyler and I walked along, his handsome face causing girls to throw their eyes at him, Tyler passed a flower store and flashed his two rows of white teeth at a young girl at the door.
He bent down politely and saluted. "Did you sleep well last night, dear lady?"
The little girl shyly hid back behind her mother, then showed a pair of eyes to survey Tyler.
"You're really good at flirting." I glanced at Tyler and pouted in discontent.
"Honey, but you've never given me a chance to flirt with you." Tyler said to me with a resigned wink.
"Stop doing that." I turned my head away in disgust.
"We don't have an easy task today, Tyler," I said to him seriously.
"This patient I'm going to help today is notoriously stubborn and stinky. But at the same time, she also has the most iron ore, coal, and water in the Wind Pack."
"That's why she's having medical staff dedicated to serving her family, isn't it?" Tyler asked me seriously.
"You're smart. It is."
"Although she could claim to be the richest aristocrat in Wind Pack, her stingy habits are well known to everyone. As she gets older, people become more and more stubborn."
I looked beside me as Tyler listened attentively to me explain the situation to him, and he stared longingly into my eyes, then smiled gently.
"It's okay, I'll stay with you today until you're done with your work." Tyler confessed.
A feeling of comfort filled my heart, like being filled with joy throughout my body.
Tyler and I arrived at the entrance of a large manor house with a family crest that represented the owner of the house hanging on the gate. It was a raven with its head held high and its wings spread wide.
I looked at the exquisitely decorated iron gate in front of me and exclaimed, "What a lifelike carving."
Tyler nodded his head in agreement. "In every pack, any family with its own family crest is not to be underestimated in terms of strength."
The iron door was slowly opened and a burly middle-aged man walked over.
He bent down and saluted us first, "Miss Ally, the Countess has been waiting for you for a long time. Please follow me."
I nodded hello to him, and he raised his hand to indicate that we should follow him.
Through a thick grove of beech trees, the man led us to stop in front of a wooden door.
"Is it okay to go in through this door?" I asked this servant suspiciously. But he didn't answer my question; he bowed to me and left.
At the same time, the wooden door was opened and a lady, exquisitely and properly dressed, came out.
I thought she was the Countess, and bowed to her in apology. "I apologize for my tardiness, esteemed Duchess."
She laughed and shook her hand at me. "Oh, no no. I'm not the Countess, I'm Lisa, I'm just her personal housekeeper."
I said awkwardly, "I'm so sorry."
"That's okay. The Countess has been waiting for you for a long time. Also, I think I need to warn you that she's not in a good temper today."
Tyler and I smiled at each other, and I think he must have understood what I meant.
I said silently to him, trying to make Tyler understand my mouth as best I could, "Don't interfere with my work, and don't forget it."
The Countess was sleeping on one of the sofas and I kept my steps light because I didn't want to wake her up and get into trouble. I waited quietly beside her.
Lisa whispered something in the Countess's ear and the Countess opened her eyes to survey Tyler and me.
"Dear Countess, I will be treating you today." I introduced my work to her. "Please be truthful with me about your recent health condition. I think I will have many questions that you need to answer me."
I looked at the countess. Her legs were covered with a gray cashmere blanket, her hair was graying, her skin was soft and sagging, she wore two shiny purple gemstone rings on one hand, and was holding a newspaper in the other. This newspaper reports the important events that take place in Wind Pack every day.
The Countess picked up her glasses and set them on the bridge of her nose. "Well." She paused for a moment. "If I'm not mistaken, that's a young man beside you?"
There was some confusion in my mind, but I answered the Countess's question. "Yes, he is my assistant for the time being."
Tyler introduced himself to the Countess, "Your honorable lady, you can call me Tyler."
The Countess's face eased up a lot and even started to smile. I think she must have been charmed by Tyler's handsome face. But it was just what I wanted, the atmosphere was eased and I was glad I hadn't left Tyler at home. He did me a big favor.
The Countess looked at me sideways, then said to me with some dissatisfaction in her tone, "Did the hospital people dare to send only one doctor to take care of me because I lost two iron ore?"
"It's not like that. Because it is my turn to be on duty today, that's why I was arranged to treat you."
The Countess raised her left hand, and she threw the newspaper on the table nearest her. Then she gently slid her fingertips over the ring.
"But you're a female doctor." She smoothed her tousled hair, and there was something grumbling in her tone.
In this moment, I felt a wave of angry powerlessness fill my heart. "What makes you think a doctor would necessarily be male. That women can't be good doctors?"
Lisa came in at that moment with a steaming pot of coffee, and she filled the cup in front of the Countess. Then she was ready to pour coffee for Tyler and me.
"Listen, not all of us are entitled to coffee hospitality. You only need to pour Mr. Tyler a cup of coffee like I do, and I think Miss Ally just needs a cup of regular tea."
