Chapter 50
Charlotte's POV
An uncontrollable pounding of panic appeared in my heart, "Ronald, I think Mr. Gary has done something that may be more and serious than we thought."
Ronald soothed me as he dropped a tender kiss on my forehead. He stared into my eyes and spoke to me, "Lottie, honey. You're not alone, because I'm always here with you."
I nodded at him, and then we mounted the fastest horses and hurried to the black market in the Black Night Pack.
"Look over there, Lottie. isn't this where I first met you?"
Ronald said to me, pointing to a pile of wooden boxes. I followed his finger and indeed, I was escorted by Thomas between the piles of clutter before I met Ronald and Tyler.
"We'd better not stop here." I coughed softly twice; I didn't want Ronald to catch me lying to him.
There was a commotion from the crossroads ahead and a dozen men in armor rushed by.
Ronald took me into his arms and my mouth was covered with his hand. My body and his hid behind a pile of debris.
"What are you doing?" I couldn't catch my breath for a moment.
I tried to struggle and Ronald whispered in my ear, "Don't move! There's a rebellion ahead!"
My heart clenched, I didn't think these people could be so rampant.
I nodded my head.
When the men were out of our vicinity, Ronald and I stepped out.
"Did you see their tattoos?" Ronald asked.
"Yeah, I saw them. Black tattoos, the symbol of a slave trade ring. I didn't think Mr. Gary would be involved with them."
I asked worriedly, but accidentally bumped into an exposed nail on the wooden box.
"Damn it!"
Ronald anxiously checked my wound, and the atmosphere between us became a little tense.
"Miss Charlotte. You might want to watch your back; I wouldn't feel comfortable with you touching these damn crates if you were injured." Ronald took the gauze out of his arms and he carefully bandaged me.
The sound of swords and people chortling rang in my ears.
I turned to look behind me, Mr. Gary was on his horse and he was looking at me mockingly.
"Miss Charlotte, I never thought I would see you alive."
I sneered, "You must have died before I did."
Ronald had me protected behind him.
"Charlotte, there are too many of them. We can't necessarily beat them now." He whispered to me.
"I know why you're here, Miss Charlotte. Mr. Chesley will reward me if I can capture you. And then no one will ever question me again."
Mr. Gary's face looked like a hideous devil who had seen his beloved lamb. His eyes were filled with madness and jealousy.
"It seems that you planned all this!" Ronald looked at Mr. Gary angrily.
"That's right. Remember Mr. Thomas? He's the guy I put in the black market. And this stupid guy actually almost gave you guys my identity. But fortunately, he's dead now, and my purpose has been achieved."
"You know the Alpha of the Shadow Pack is reserved for the virtuous, it doesn't belong to a dark fellow like you!"
I held the dagger in my hand, I had to always be ready to take Ronald and escape from this place.
"You mean Gavin? That fool will never know what Alpha is! All he cares about in his eyes is his wife who is as stupid as he is."
A look of disdain filled Mr. Gary's face.
I was mildly surprised that Mr. Gary seemed to know something inside out.
"Doesn't he know that marrying a rogue wolf girl is a disgrace to the entire family? He doesn't deserve to be an Alpha of the Shadow Pack at all! Everything I did, all my intentions were to help him! He's the one who gave up and even wrongly blamed me!"
Mr. Gary pulled the corners of his mouth stiffly, the smile on his face becoming more and more chilling.
"So you killed Mr. Gavin's wife?" I couldn't distinguish the expression on Ronald's face at that moment, I just felt his face was calm like the sea before a storm.
I knew that this was the sign before his real anger.
Mr. Gary gave me an odd look, "How do you know all this?"
Then a strange, mocking laugh escaped his throat.
"Hahahaha, he and his servants must have told you. That madman, forever complaining and regretting. I don't mind telling you all the facts, because dead people don't tell things."
Mr. Gary's face was filled with a smug look.
Ronald's eyes glinted slightly, and I knew he was stalling for time. "I've told Father and Mr. Gavin's army to come to the Black Night Pack."
I nodded darkly and took Ronald's hand.
Mr. Gary's expression twisted, the corners of his mouth were turned downward. "Gavin, my good brother. He had no business playing politics. All I did was create some bad publicity about him and his wife, and he left easily. But I don't understand why that ordinary wife of his will be remembered by him for the rest of his life. It's mind-boggling."
Mr. Gary's raspy voice echoed in my ears.
"So, it was you who killed Mr. Gary's wife, was it?" I did my best to suppress the anger in my heart; now was not the time to kill him.
"I didn't really want to kill her, I just needed to sacrifice her to Mr. Chesley to complete the task. But I didn't think that this woman would wake up in the middle of the process, so I accidentally killed her. "
"Why is Mr. Chesley related to you?"
Ronald's face did not have a trace of expression, his face looked eerily beautiful under the combination of light and shadow.
"I don't know, this woman's death made Mr. Chesley extraordinarily angry. That's why I wasn't willing to work with him for a long time. This guy is even more emotionally and characteristically unstable than I am. If it weren't for becoming an alpha of the Shadow Pack. I wouldn't work with someone from such a humble and lowly background, it's disgusting."
Mr. Gary loosened his shoulders and neck, "I didn't expect Gavin to actually fall apart after that, but I don't want to spend more energy on him, he's no longer a threat to me now."
Mr. Gary's smile went wider on his face; I took advantage of the moment he let his guard down. I and Ronald looked at each other then I stabbed the dagger into Gary's heart.
Warm blood splashed in my eye frame and my vision turned a lurid blood red.
Mr. Gary stared at me, his eyes full of disbelief, his body trembling slightly, and I knew and was certain that he didn't have the slightest chance or ability to resist now.
"You..." Mr. Gary squeezed a word out of the corner of his mouth, which made his expression very difficult.
"I hate you for killing my mother, and I hate you for cheating on my father!"
I bent down and whispered in his ear.
Mr. Gary's pupils dilated violently and he looked at me in disbelief.
I pulled the dagger out of his heart and blood gushed out of the wound like an endless spring. Within moments, the clothes on Mr. Gary's chest were soaked with blood.
I watched as he lost his last breath.
Mr. Gary's entourage, as well as the rebellious black market slaves and slaveholders who followed him, scattered in all directions like a million white bubbles like frightened birds and animals.
Mr. Gavin and Mr. Charlie were followed by a heavily armed army, and they finally arrived.
Ronald waved to them as Mr. Charlie's men chased away the rioting slaves. After about half an hour, the riot on the black market had been completely resolved.
"Charlotte, my child! Why is there blood all over your face?"
Mr. Gavin eagerly pulled out his handkerchief as he looked at me with concern and tried to wipe the blood off my face.
"This blood doesn't belong to me, I killed Mr. Gary." I was still reeling from the sadness of my mother being killed by Mr. Gary.
I wasn't in the mood to manage my appearance.
Ronald took a handkerchief from Gavin, who dabbed some clean spring water from the street tap and helped me wipe the school off my face.
"Lottie's mother was killed by Mr. Gary. That's what Mr. Gary said himself."
Ronald explained calmly.
"What?"
My father looked incredulously at his now dead brother, and I knew he must need some time to digest the news now.
"Right now the Shadow Pack can't do without Alpha. I think Mr. Gavin is the best and most suitable person for the position. And the Alpha's identity will also facilitate the investigation of the truth about your mother's death."
Mr. Charlie suggested while he directed his escort to clean up the mess of the black market injury.
Ronald told my father everything Mr. Gary had just told me, and Mr. Gavin listened with a grim look on his whole face.
"I will become the Alpha of the Shadow Pack again, and I will lead the people of the Shadow Pack to glory."
Mr. Gavin's face was full of wisdom and determination. I knew that he must be suppressing his sorrow and anger at this moment.
"Father, I will always be there for you!"
I held his hand, and I could clearly feel my father's hand trembling slightly.
"Mr. Gavin, the Black Night Pack will also support the Shadow Pack," Ronald said, holding my hand, his palm always dry and warm.
"Don't worry, Lottie, maybe I can help. We'll be fine, and so will your father. As for the Shadow Pack, I guess it's going to be a headache for your father for a while."
The corners of Ronald's mouth split into a charming smile, he was always so full of confidence.
I nodded to Ronald, and I realized with a jolt that I was now the rightful heir to Shadow Pack's Alpha.
"Ronald! I am no longer an ordinary girl now, I carry the mission of building the Shadow Pack!"
"Yes, Lottie," Ronald said to me with a smile.
"Ronald, I think you need to accompany Miss Charlotte and Mr. Gavin back to the Shadow Pack. I'll give you a strong, sharp army. You can help them."
Mr. Charlie said.
"That would be much appreciated." I said gratefully.
Because Ronald had to work with his father on the riots left on the black market. So I could only go back to the Shadow Pack first with my father with a small group of Black Night Pack's escort army.
The very afternoon we returned to the Shadow Pack, I received the news that Mr. Chesley had surrounded the Shadow Pack's fortress with his army.
