Chapter 45

Charlotte's POV
Gavin was in a much better mental state today and I was able to have normal communication with him without letting him take his medication.
"Miss Charlotte, I've developed some pain in my stomach." Gavin said to me with his hand over his solitary.
"What's wrong, Mr. Gavin?" I rushed to examine him. I hadn't given him any medicine all morning, so there shouldn't be any drug allergy.
"Miss Charlotte..."
Gavin's stomach made a hunger sound, and I realized that he was feeling pain in his stomach because he was hungry.
"Well, let's go to lunch now." I helped Gavin, who was now especially dependent on me.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we saw Ronald dining together with a beautiful and sexy woman in his arms.
After Ronald saw me, he hurriedly dropped his arm from the woman's waist.
Ronald stood up awkwardly and he introduced me to the woman beside him. "Charlotte, this is Mr. Gary's daughter, Miss Kelly."
"I know, it's nice to meet you, Miss Kelly."
I offered my hand to Kelly in a friendly manner, but to my surprise, Kelly acted as if she didn't see my outstretched hand, she looked at my hand, then turned around and walked right away.
Ronald tried to reach out and take my hand, but not before his fingers touched my fingertips. I just bashfully pulled my hand back.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Ronald." I said to Ronald indifferently.
Ronald was very embarrassed at this point: "I'm sorry, Charlotte, I didn't expect you to come at this time..."
I immediately stopped him from going on, "I know, I think I can understand. In fact, you don't need to ask me to explain the motives for all your actions, Mr. Ronald."
Mr. Gavin behind me tugged gently on one corner of my coat and he asked me tentatively, "Miss Charlotte, I'm so hungry, can we eat first?"
I looked at Mr. Gavin who was eyeing the sumptuous lunch on the table, I nodded and ignored Ronald's eyes as I sat down with Mr. Gavin.
"Mr. Gavin, you want need to eat more baked eggplant peas and carrots. It's good for your eyes."
I served a plate of peas and carrots and handed the plate to Gavin along with it.
Gavin frowned, "The food I hate most is peas, and carrots. However, this is because you served them to me, I will eat them all!"
I watched with relief as Gavin buried his head in his plate and he carefully ate his bowl of food.
It was then that I started to eat my own lunch. I noticed that Ronald was staring at me out of the corner of his eye.
"Charlotte, I want to eat those peas too." He said.
"Then go serve yourself some and put them on your own plate, why? The noble Alpha's heir can't even do such a simple action, can he?"
I said with slight sarcasm.
The expression on Ronald's face looked like it was about to explode. "Charlotte, remember what I said, I need you to stay away from Gavin."
I replied to him with a sneer, "Why? Because you're an Alpha or because the distance between you and Kelly doesn't make you feel close enough?"
When Ronald heard me mention Kelly, he looked even worse.
"I forgot to tell you that Miss Kelly will be following us to Wind Pack. along the way, we will be a complete team for the time being. So whether she likes you or not, you're going to have to put up with her behavior."
I knew Ronald was referring to the rude behavior she had just used on me.
"I would have treated her normally without your reminder." I indifferently stuffed a suitable sized carrot into my mouth as I pretended not to feel the anger from Ronald.
Ronald let out a sneer as he looked Gavin up and down.
"Looks like you're taking good care of him." I knew he was referring to Gavin, but the tone of his voice made me feel very uncomfortable.
"I'm just doing my duty as a doctor."
After Ronald heard what I said, he angrily retorted, "Are you guys so close that you can let him put his arm around your waist and you can ballroom dance together?"
I was surprised by what he said, "Where are you hiding to spy on us?"
"I wasn't snooping! Everyone can see what you do with him. charlotte, everyone knows you are my fiancée. Why do you have to stay with Gavin?"
"I've told you many times! I'm just using my position as a doctor to take care of a poor patient! And, Ronald, you have no right to blame me!"
The scene of Ronald holding Kelly's waist just now kept popping up in my mind.
"Didn't you just put your arm around Kelly's waist too? And what kind of relationship exists between you?"
I questioned Ronald loudly, Ronald inclined his head, he obviously wanted to more than my eyes.
"Admit it Ronald," I said with a sigh.
"What do you want me to admit?" There was a tremor in Ronald's tone that couldn't be ignored.
"Your love for me has changed, Ronald, and I don't think I can stay with you. When I return to Wind Pack, we may be able to separate for good."
I spoke in a calm tone.
"You'd rather give up our love for each other because of Mr. Gavin, wouldn't you?"
Ronald asked with a frown.
"I think I've already explained that. It's not because of Gavin, it's because of you. You're too arrogant and you're petty, and I'm a doctor, and I can't be around you forever. I have my own job and my own ambitions!"
I explained out loud.
"Forget it, Ronald. let's go to Wind Pack today. I don't want to live with an egomaniac anymore."
Ronald asked me with wide eyes, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
I think I have to actively distance myself from Ronald, I love pure and ultimate love. If someone I love has another person living in his heart, then I will not hesitate to give up.
I try to focus my attention on solving the poison, now that love is not my first concern, and Ronald's breach of vows, his excess affection for other women, is causing me to give up on him.
"Maybe I should focus on solving who killed my mother, Mr. Ronald. We both need to calm down now."
As it happens, Gavin has now finished his lunch. He staggered to his feet and said to me, "Miss Charlotte, I feel so sleepy right now. I want to go to bed."
"Okay, Mr. Gavin. Then I'll take you back to your bedroom to rest."
I held Gavin's shoulders and walked together to the lounge where he belonged.
"Charlotte..."
Ronald was behind me, saying to me.
"I've already decided. Besides, I don't want to discuss anything more about our love for each other."
The next day, early in the morning. I bid farewell to Mr. Gavin.
"Miss Charlotte, where are you going?" Gavin said to me as he tugged on my sleeve.
I turned to hug him and I reassured him, "It's okay, Mr. Gavin. I need to go out and solve some problems, so I have to leave for a while."
"So when will you be back?" Gavin asked me, with so much reluctance in his eyes.
"Five days, maybe. Believe me, you have to take care of yourself, while I'm gone. Promise me, okay?"
I coaxed him gently.
Gavin nodded, and he finally let go of my sleeve.
I rushed to the gate, where Rick was standing with a horse. I knew that they had probably been waiting for me for a long time.
As expected, Ronald reflexively moved aside when he saw me.
If there was an outing, I would usually ride the same horse as Ronald. But now, the status between Ronald and I is more like a breakup. So it's impossible for me to ride the same horse with him.
"Miss Charlotte, why did it take you so long to get downstairs? I don't think the trip to the Wind Pack is any shorter than the trip to the Dark Pack."
Kelly asked sarcastically.
"It did take me some time to say goodbye to Mr. Gavin. But it was a very necessary thing to do."
I took the reins from Rick and rolled onto my horse. I urged the horse to run a little faster so I wouldn't have to look at Ronald's face, which had a very bad mood.
We had been hurrying for a long time, "I think we've left the border forest of Shadow Pack for some distance."
I said.
"Then let the horses rest at the creek, they should also be very hard to run. I'd like to stop and wash my hands, too."
Ronald agreed with me.
I parked the horses in the middle of a lush patch of water and grass by the creek, and I let go of the reins so that the horses could walk freely for a while.
I deliberately walked relatively far away so that Ronald and Kelly would not encounter me. I also didn't have to respond to their spiteful comments.
"Hello, Miss Charlotte."
Kelly approached with a white water bottle. She handed me the canteen and then said to me in a commanding tone, "I'm feeling a little thirsty, and I think I need and some clean water. Why don't you help me fill up this canteen."
I glanced at her, and the heiress of this noble-born, well-lived Alpha was looking at me with her arms folded.
She seemed to really want me to help her fill the canteen, but she didn't look very thirsty at all.
"Why haven't you filled my water bottle? If you don't do what I tell you to do, I'll make Ronald punish you severely!"
This innocent and stupid little girl saw that I did not respond to her, she actually threw her white water bottle directly into my arms.
I hastily caught it, which I found a little ridiculous.
"Don't think I'll let you get away with it, even if you are a doctor. You know, even if you heal my Uncle Gavin with your medical skills, my father and I will never look favorably on you. and Mr. Ronald will never belong to you!"
Kelly's shrill voice made my ears feel a little weary.
I stroked the dark lines on her kettle as I bent down and filled it without a word. Then tossed it to the somewhat capricious Alpha heir.
"Shut up, Kelly. don't you hear some strange movement existing nearby?"
Kelly hurriedly stood by my side in fear as I led her to the side of my horse.
"Stand here and don't move!" I admonished her.
Kelly became submissive and obedient at this point, and the fearful and bewildered look on her face gave me a strange suspicion.
"Kelly, you've never left the Shadow Pack until now, have you? I asked.
Kelly was silent for a moment and nodded helplessly. "This is the first time I've left the Shadow Pack, and without an entourage."
At this point her mean and sharp breath was covered with fear. I searched for Ronald while keeping an eye out for all movement in the bushes near me.
"Damn, why did Ronald disappear at this time? Where did this guy go?" I searched anxiously.
