Chapter 28

Ronald's POV
This hateful little slave! How dare she talk to me in that tone!
"I've given you a chance! Gotta admit, you managed to piss me off."
I snorted coldly and called Tyler into my study.
"Mr. Ronald, I'm at your disposal." Tyler stood by Charlotte's side and said to me respectfully.
"Since Miss Charlotte is not willing to cooperate with our investigation, until she has figured out if she is willing to assist us.
I don't think there's any need for her to stay in a nice room and enjoy good services."
After I finished these conditions, I carefully observed the expression on her face.
Charlotte's face still had a very cold look on it, which I took to be a provocation.
My heart began to feel irritated by Charlotte's indifferent attitude.
"Take Miss Charlotte to the place where the lowest class of slaves live now!"
Tyler looked at me hesitantly, and his look was clearly intended to stop me.
  "Ronald, you'd better not..."
  Tyler said to me hesitantly.
Two guards came in response, making a move to stand Charlotte out.
"Don't touch me, I'll go on my own!"
Charlotte shook off the two guards' hands and left the study independently.
I threw the papers on the floor angrily.
"It's the first time I've seen such a rude slave!" I said to Tyler grumblingly.
"I'm the one who saved Charlotte from Thomas! And this guy treats her savior with such a rude attitude?"
I said incredulously.
Tyler good-naturedly helped me gather up the papers and handed them back to me.
"Your attitude towards her is actually quite special, Ronald."
Tyler continued. "You never cared about the slaves. But you cared a lot about Charlotte. Even got angry about her answers. ""
"Of course I was upset when she dared to speak to me in a rude tone. Besides, we need someone who knows the kidnappers. It will help us in our investigation into the cause of Gamma and the slaves' deaths in the pack."
Tyler smiled and shrugged his shoulders, "Okay. I'll do as you say."
  I explained.
"But I don't really think she'll know anything important. She just looks like a slave who's a little prettier than normal."
Tyler shook his head and said to me. "I've investigated Charlotte's identity, and she's not a subordinate of the Black Night Pack. But she seems to have some connection with the windpack."
"What kind of connection?" I asked.
"She was kidnapped by Thomas in the wind pack."
I listened and my heart shook. Maybe Charlotte had something to do with ally's disappearance.
Maybe I could learn something from Charlotte so that I could find ally sooner.
"Charlotte is repulsed by me, Tyler. leave it to you to get close to her." I instructed Tyler.
"Me?" Tyler was in some disbelief.
"When we were at the black market, the first thing Charlotte wanted to do was jump into your arms . I think he was coming for you .
And, Charlotte is only not really repulsed by you right now."
I hand over to Tyler, I deliberately ignore the strange discomfort in my heart.
  Charlotte's POV
"Damn Ronald!" I cursed under my breath as I kicked a stone beside me.
I had been assigned by Ronald to the most humble of workplaces, and I needed to trim the leaves and branches of their garden.
I sighed deeply in the face of the garden's endless tall trees.
I sort of did my best to find a good way to approach the Alpha of the Blackout Pack.
But I was the only one who asked questions of anyone in the pack, and they looked like they had been stung by a bee. They tend to walk away in silence, surprised.
A maid carrying a barrel passed by me, and I hastily pulled her in and asked.
"Ma'am, may I ask where the Alpha of the Blackout Pack is?"
"No, I don't know..." she stammered and answered me.
"Did Ronald tell you guys not to come help me?" I asked carefully as I grabbed her.
"No..." her eyes kept dodging me.
I sighed and shook my head helplessly.
"Forget it, just go away. I let go of her and she fled as if she had grown wings.
There was no one to help me , but I was happy to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Since no one was telling me what I should do, didn't that mean I didn't have to do anything.
"Good, I can hide away and rest. Maybe I can even find the Alpha's trail."
I peeked into a corner of the garden that was covered in shade and where no one would go.
I found a dry and clean patch of grass and lay down comfortably.
I took off my jacket and put it over my face.
  "Charlotte, are you okay?"
A soft voice rang in my ears, and I wondered if I had heard it wrong. Who would speak to me in the darkness of the pack?
  "Charlotte?"
The voice became louder and clearer.
I moved my jacket out of the way and a pair of black shoes appeared in my line of sight.
I followed the shoes and looked upward. "Tyler?"
"Good afternoon, Miss Charlotte." Tyler put his hands behind his back, bent down, and greeted me with a smile.
I suddenly realized that he was Ronald's Beta, and I figured he must have come to me to help Ronald.
I started to get defensive about him, "Are you here to get me in trouble?"
Tyler shook his head, "Don't worry, I'm here to help you."
He handed me something wrapped up in leaves. "You must not have eaten yet."
I nodded, although Tyler didn't seem to mean any harm. But I still couldn't take him as someone I could trust.
"It's none of your business, Tyler," I said, turning away from him, making it clear that I was refusing his request.
  "Are you sure?"
Tyler smiled enigmatically before Tyler peeled the leaves from his hands layer by layer, revealing inside, the smelling roast chicken that was bubbling away.
Damn, it's actually my favorite food. But how did he know that I like to eat this?
"Don't you like it?" I sensed the probing gaze from Tyler.
How could I not like it? I couldn't remember the last time I had eaten meat.
Thomas would only offer me vegetable salads in order to keep me in good shape.
I swallowed quietly and whispered a denial. "No, I love it."
"Then take it and eat it, I know you must be hungry right now."
Tyler pushed the steaming grilled chicken toward me , "It's okay. Don't worry about eating it."
"Okay, thanks." I took the chicken and began to devour it.
"Do you know why people don't want to talk to you?" Tyler asked me.
"Ronald must have told them not to talk to me."
I said somewhat glumly as I took a hard nibble of the chicken leg in my hand.
"You know the word about you has spread all over the black night pack. everyone knows that Ronald carried you back himself, but you made him very unhappy again."
"I see, that's why they were so enthusiastic about me first, and then no one wanted to pick up on me."
I finished the last bite of meat and said.
"Yes, Miss Charlotte." Tyler handed me over a square napkin.
  "Thanks."
"Then why are you being so nice to me? Why are you helping me?"
  I asked warily.
Tyler laughed a little, and he leaned in close to me, and I could almost feel his warm breath spraying onto my face.
"Because I'm interested in you." Tyler's low voice was like a feather tugging at me.
"Charlotte, for the first time, I desire a woman differently..."
Tyler held me firmly down on the grass, and I could almost feel the beating of his heart through the thin clothing.
