Chapter 39
Charlotte's POV
"I have a feeling that this mystery person was silenced by the Wind Pack executives." I said.
Charlie nodded, and it looked like he thought so too.
Ronald reminded me, "Lottie, I think we should tackle the slave trade organization first now. This morning, Tyler told me that they caught Thomas and his gang."
I was very excited to hear this news. This damned leader of the kidnappers had finally fallen into the net and been caught.
"Where is he now?" I asked.
"Tyler has him in his cell, waiting for us to interrogate him."
Ronald said.
"Very well. Then let's go now." I said to Charlie and Ronald.
Charlie refused me as he hung the portrait back on the wall and turned his back.
"I'll leave the interrogation of Thomas to you guys. I'm a little sick, so I won't be there."
I knew that Charlie was missing my mother, and his expression looked a little sad.
"Okay."
The two of us, Ronald and I, headed to the cell, where Tyler had long been waiting for us at the cell door.
"Mr. Tyler, are your wounds better?" I asked with concern.
"My wounds have healed, Miss Charlotte." Tyler was still the same gentle, gentlemanly man.
"That's good ." I said. I would feel guilty if Tyler's wounds hadn't healed because of me.
"Tyler, hasn't Thomas told the truth yet?" Ronald's face had long since turned sour.
I hadn't told Ronald about being held as a slave in Thomas's quarters and being abused.
If Ronald knew , he would not let this guy go easily.
Now I still need Thomas alive, maybe we can squeeze more valuable information out of him.
In the dimly lit cell, a man huddled on a pile of straw.
"Thomas?" Ronald asked him as he stood in front of him.
"I am at your service, the honorable Mr. Ronald. As I recall, you bought a slave from me."
Thomas had an ingratiating smile on his face even now that he was caught.
"That's right, Thomas, you have a good memory." Ronald sneered.
"I don't understand why you brought me here, did the slave disobey your orders, Mr. Ronald?"
Thomas asked with a smile. I hated his smiling, uncaring face.
With this face, Thomas had killed countless innocent girls.
"Thomas, if you tell me who ordered you to kidnap the slaves, I will consider leaving you alive."
I stepped forward and said to Thomas.
After Thomas saw me, his eyes were filled with surprise.
"It's you! You..." Thomas was speechless with surprise.
"You're not wrong, I'm still alive and well." I stood by Ronald's side, and he smoothly put his arm around my shoulders.
Thomas laughed out loud, "Charlotte you amaze me. It seems you are already the favorite slave of the heir to the Alpha of the Dark Pack. He was even willing to bring you to prison."
Before I could open my mouth to explain, Ronald had already retorted Thomas in a loud voice.
"You think too much, Thomas. miss Charlotte is not some slave, she is my future wife."
I looked at Ronald in surprise and he nodded at me.
"You can only be my wife, my love, Charlotte. "
Ronald's voice was not too loud, but just loud enough for everyone in the room to be able to hear clearly.
Thomas even stood up in surprise this time.
"Hey, wait. This is not the highest treatment a slave should have."
Thomas said suspiciously.
"Who told you Charlotte was a slave?" Ronald asked.
"She was with me for a month learning how to seduce men!"
Thomas said in amazement.
"Charlotte, is it true what Thomas said?" Ronald asked me.
I nodded my head, "Yes. A lady named Sandy taught me how to seduce men. I don't know what's happening with her now."
Thomas spat hard on the ground and said angrily, "Sandy, that bitch let my slave go and ruined my whole future! She was killed by me and her body was thrown into the lake."
"You brought this on yourself, Thomas! You imprisoned her freedom against her will! You deserve to die!"
I slammed my fist hard into the fence.
Ronald stopped me, and he took my hand in his. "Don't waste your strength for such people, Charlotte."
Ronald motioned for two guards to come in.
"You guys tie Thomas up, right now."
Thomas was tied securely with rope, a cold smile on his lips.
"Ronald, just so you know, Charlotte is not a nice girl. She's best at seducing men...you don't want to be fooled by her."
Thomas tried to deceive Ronald with lies.
But Ronald wasn't so good at it, and I had already told him the truth.
Ronald didn't question me the way Thomas thought he would.
Thomas's face soon became anxious and he began to beg us for mercy.
"I beg you, please let me go." Thomas pleaded.
Ronald pulled out a dagger and had the guards strip Thomas of all his clothes. I knew that he was preparing to use torture on Thomas to force him to tell the truth.
"Impossible, unless you tell me how you caught those slaves in Wind Pack!"
Thomas's face was filled with hesitation as Ronald stabbed him hard in the shoulder.
"Stop! I'll tell you everything!" Thomas begged loudly, his voice trembling from the pain in his shoulder.
"I-I paid some men to spread the word that there are precious herbs in the border forests of Wind Pack. That would attract some young women to look for the herbs. I also kidnap them while they let their guard down."
I said sarcastically, "Sure enough, it's you guys. Those with black intricate pattern tattoos on their backs, are they all your subordinates?"
Thomas looked scared as he held his lips.
Ronald cooperated with me, he pulled the dagger out quickly, then changed the orientation and stuck it in hard.
"I'll tell you everything! Please, don't torture me anymore!"
Thomas breathed heavily, his brow furrowed and beads of sweat the size of pea grains sprouting from his forehead.
"Yes. The kidnappers all have the same intricate black tattoo, which is a very ancient totem. It represents death and profit. Once tattooed with this totem, one is not allowed to leave the slave trade organization except by death."
"You guys are so inhumane..."
Ronald's expression became grave, and I felt disgusted and angry at what Thomas said.
"Each wolf pack has members of the slave trade organization, so we are very well informed. We send the trained slaves in to the wolves who have been contacted by the pack and need slaves. And get paid accordingly."
I keenly perceived that there was something special in some places.
"Whose requirements are you following?" I pressed Thomas and asked.
Thomas said nothing to reveal the person behind his instructions, and no matter what methods Ronald used to press him, he was silent and lowered his head.
I took Ronald's dagger and put it on Thomas's neck.
I threatened him: "Listen, Thomas, I know you have some more information that you're not telling me. I'm giving you the chance to tell the truth. Otherwise, I will kill you!"
I increased the force with which I held the dagger, and Thomas shook his head helplessly.
"Charlotte, you're right. But you won't be able to beat him at all, he's too strong and his methods are more brutal than you can imagine."
Thomas' eyes showed a hint of fear as he sneered, then leaned his large carotid artery against my dagger when I wasn't looking.
The sharp blade sliced his throat in an instant, splashing blood into my eyes.
My vision turned red for a split second and I let out a shriek.
Ronald turned around, and he wrapped his arms around me, dropping the dagger to the ground.
"Charlotte, it's not your fault! Don't be afraid, Lottie, dear!"
Ronald kept reassuring me. "Get rid of Thomas' body, fast!" He said to the guards.
"Ronald, Thomas is dead." I spit out the words stiffly.
"Yes, he killed so many people, how many innocent slaves suffered because of him. His suicide was the best thing that could have happened to him."
I knew that Ronald's purpose of saying this was to comfort me. But I couldn't accept that a life had been lost in front of me.
"Charlotte, what did Thomas just say to you?"
Ronald cupped my face and asked me softly.
"He said that the person behind him is very powerful and we can't defeat him at all."
Ronald was silent as he and I walked out of the cell.
The fresh air hit me, and I took a deep breath, which relaxed my mood.
