Chapter 44
Ronald's POV
I was in my chair thinking about what I should do to get Charlotte away from that crazy man, Gavin.
I was sick of strange men staring at charotte, and at the same time, I didn't like the way Charlotte treated Gavin, they were too close.
There was a knock on my door, I opened it and Rick was standing outside.
"Mr. Ronald, I'm sorry to disturb your rest at this late hour. If you don't mind, Mr. Gary would like to invite you to his study. He said there must be something you would like to talk to him about."
"I'd be glad to. Lead the way, Mr. Rick."
Mr. Gary invited me to his study to discuss things, just in time, which would satisfy my request for Mr. Gary to help me keep Mr. Gavin away from Charlotte.
"Good evening, Mr. Ronald." Mr. Gary poured a glass of wine for me.
"Thank you, Mr. Gary. I appreciate your kindness, but I'm sorry, I'm not in the habit of drinking at night. You know, alcohol always makes people act irrationally."
I declined Mr. Gary's wine, a gesture that seemed to offend him.
Gary's hand offered to me retracted silently as he lifted his glass and then drained it of red wine.
"Mr. Ronald, I'd like to ask you everything you need to know about Mr. Gavin."
Gary lifted his finger and wagged it at me. "No need to say more, I know you want Mr. Gavin to stay away from Miss Charlotte."
"Yes. I admit, I'm a little possessive. But she is my fiancée. It is my duty to keep her away from anything of the opposite sex that I don't see eye to eye with. Not to mention that Gavin touched Charlotte's hand. That would have driven me crazy!"
Mr. Gary laughed out loud, his expression looking very amused.
"I just want to say, Mr. Ronald, love isn't all there is to life. gavin just cared so much about his mate that he ended up having mental problems after he lost his mate."
Gary's face was filled with a mocking look. "Poor Gavin, he lost his MATE and then lost everything. He deserved it."
I suspected I had misheard, "What?" I asked.
Gary clenched his hand into a fist and put it to his mouth and coughed twice. "Nothing, Mr. Ronald."
"You went to Beta's did you? Did you get anything extra?" Gary asked.
I handed Gary the notes I had jotted down and he flipped them open to read them carefully. "Purple powder? What does that mean?"
I told him seriously, "This powder is usually placed in places where people can't easily find it. The cause of Beta's death, for example, was because he inhaled, or he touched, an object with this powder.
This poison will make a person unable to breathe in a short period of time, until the whole body organ failure and death.
The more terrible thing, for those who want to find the truth, this poison will only exist within a very short period of time, the maximum period will not exceed a week. So if Charlotte and I had gone over a few days later, we would not have been able to find the poison. Because it would have evaporated in the air."
My words made Gary's face become more serious, he poured a glass of wine down the back of his throat, then frowned and asked me: "Is there any way to solve this poison? And how is this poison made?"
I considered for two seconds, "I'm sorry Mr. Gary, I don't think I'm well versed in this area. But I remember Miss Charlotte once told me that to make this poison, there is an herb that can only grow in the acidic soil of Wind Pack."
Gary pondered, "It seems that this poison and Wind Pack can not be unrelated."
"That's exactly right, Mr. Gary."
"I want my daughter to take my place and go back to Wind Pack with you to investigate about this dead Beta. And I would like to give you a task, Ronald. you are an Alpha heir with perfect, pure power. I believe that you will be the most powerful Alpha in the future."
Gary patted me on the shoulder and before I could refuse, a young woman with long hair and a long purple dress came through the door. "Father, I'm here." She said.
I scowled at her and she flashed me a smile. "I'm Kelly, Mr. Ronald. Father has mentioned you to me many times."
"Hello, Miss Kelly." I nod politely to her.
"Kelly, you will leave tomorrow for Wind Pack with Mr. Ronald, and I need you to cooperate with Mr. Ronald's investigation, do you understand?"
Gary's attitude towards his daughter was a little strict. But Kelly still kept her smile perfectly.
"I think I will, Father." Kelly finished answering Gary and left.
"Mr. Ronald, what do you think of my daughter Kelly?"
Gary asked me smugly.
"WELL, I don't really know her that well yet." I told the truth, Charlotte was the special one in my eyes.
"She's pretty, really." I explained with some embarrassment. I actually don't care about the looks of women other than Charlotte, because they all look the same to me.
"Ronald, Kelly is more helpful to you than Charlotte. Isn't it?" I was surprised that Gary was using his own daughter as a bargaining chip to give to himself.
"What?" I suspected I had misheard.
"Isn't it? Charlotte isn't any Pack Alpha. she's just an ordinary girl. If you want to sit as an Alpha, you can choose to bond with an Alpha of the Shadow Pack, which will undoubtedly make you much more powerful."
Gary proudly said with me. I now understood why he had asked me to bring his daughter back to Wind Pack with him.
Now it seems that his desire to investigate the truth of the death of the poisoned Beta is a lie, wanting me and Kelly to stay together is his real idea.
If Kelly and I were to bond, the Shadow Pack would also have lasting access to the Black Night Pack's military aid, as well as other assistance.
After all, the Darkness Pack was the most powerful Pack in the North.
"I'm planning to leave for Wind Pack tomorrow. "It seems I'll just have to find a way to get rid of Kelly. I hope to put a hurdle in Kelly's way by departing a little earlier.
"No problem, Kelly will definitely be leaving with you guys." A sly smile appeared on Gary's face.
I felt so helpless that I had to reluctantly agree.
Charlotte and I hadn't spoken for a long time because of Gavin's affair. If I add Kelly to this journey, I may be even less able to get Charlotte to dispel her misunderstanding of me.
"I think it's better to wait until Charlotte is done with her questions about Gavin's condition before we leave for Wind Pack."
I explained to Gary. "Charlotte will be relieved to have a sick Gavin. i don't want her to feel embarrassed because of me."
Gary's eyes twinkled and he shrugged. "In that regard, you have the last word, Mr. Ronald."
Early the next morning, I went to see Charlotte.
"Mr. Ronald, Miss Charlotte has gone to the hospital early to take care of Mr. Gavin."
Cathy said to me.
"What? She's gone over so early?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes, Miss Charlotte has been coming back very late these days. I've noticed that she waits until Mr. Gavin is asleep before returning. As a doctor, she is really doing her job."
Cathy said complimentingly.
Was Charlotte that concerned about Gavin's illness? I thought angrily. But my feet were unconsciously walking towards the hospital.
"Mr. Ronald, where are you going?" Miss Kelly's valet just came over and said that Miss Kelly is coming over to have lunch with you later!
Cathy reminded me in a loud voice behind me.
"Tell her to leave her alone. I'm not available, I'm busy."
I explained, shaking my hand behind me.
I went to the ward belonging to Gavin, which was empty.
"Where did Miss Charlotte go?" I asked, pulling a nurse to me.
"Miss Charlotte is in the garden, she is walking with Mr. Gavin."
I listened and prepared to rush to the garden. Before I could reach Charlotte, I heard Gavin's cheerful laughter coming through the leaves.
I slowed my pace and peered around the corner of the garden at the two men.
Gavin was clearly in much better shape today than he had been the first time we had met. His face radiated happiness and a smile.
Charlotte had a smile on her face that I couldn't understand, but one thing I was sure of was that she never wore that smile when she was with me.
I squeezed the bars in front of me so tightly that I even squeezed them out of shape.
"Are you jealous of them, Mr. Ronald?" Kelly's voice rang in my ears.
I looked up, and Kelly's voice startled me. "What are you doing here, Ms. Kelly?"
Kelly didn't answer my question, instead she smiled at me and said, "You and Cathy said you were busy just to come see Charlotte and Gavin take a walk together?"
I was silent as Kelly put her hand on the back of my hand that was resting on the railing. I quickly drew my hand back, which caused a very odd expression to cross her face.
Kelly followed my gaze to Gavin and Charlotte. "Miss Charlotte is special."
"Yes, she's the most special girl I've ever met." I explained to Kelly.
Kelly smiled awkwardly and drew back her hand. "I know that you like Miss Charlotte a lot. But he doesn't even seem to care about your emotions right now, instead he's getting close to Gavin."
I didn't know how to counter that reasoning, because Kelly was telling the truth.
Kelly asked me back leisurely, "Are you that comfortable with Gavin and your fiancée taking an intimate walk together?"
I noticed that on the grass, Gavin was wrapping his arms around Charlotte's waist and they were even doing a simple ballroom dance together.
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath.
I pretended not to hear Kelly's question, but jealousy pushed me to answer Kelly's question.
"Fiancee? As long as I haven't given notice of the entire Pack file, the choice of my fiancée can produce a change anytime I want any woman to be Alpha's MATE."
Kelly said in surprise, "I don't think Miss Charlotte would care what you think, she seems to love you very much."
I grimaced, "Really? Let's just hope she's telling the truth when she says she loves me."
"Come on. It's time for us to go to lunch. miss Kelly." "I'm sorry," I said, flashing a charming smile at Miss Kelly beside me.
A moment of embarrassment crossed Miss Kelly's face. "With pleasure, Mr. Ronald."
Kelly took my hand tentatively, and I gamely didn't let her move it away as I had done before.
I let Kelly grab my wrist as she placed her fingers in my palm and gently rubbed my trailing finger. I knew that this was a sign of affection among Pack.
Deep down, I didn't want to be done by Kelly, so I eventually pulled my fingers out. I would rather put my arm on her shoulder than have my tail finger stroked by Kelly.
Miss Kelly and I stayed in this position until we met Charlotte and Mr. Gavin.
