Chapter 12

Ronald's POV
"What's wrong with you, Shelly?" said Ally, bending down and meeting the little girl's eyes. The little girl didn't answer Ally, she reached around Ally's neck and leaned gently on Ally's shoulder.
Shelly shrank into Ally's arms as Ally gently patted her back.
"Your daddy's been drinking again, hasn't he?"
Shelly hid in Ally's arms, then let out an affirmation that was hard to hear easily.
"Yes."
Ally kissed Shelly's cheek, then picked her up in a hug.
"Let's go, let's go to Shelly's house first." Ally said to me.
I noticed a sad look pass over her face.
"What's wrong?" I said to her.
"Let me tell you."
"Shelly's mother has had a heart condition for years and she hasn't been out to work in a long time. shelly's father is an unapologetic alcoholic and likes to domesticate shelly and her mother when he's drunk."
"Oh my God!" I exclaimed in amazement.
"So how did you and they meet?"
"The hospital I worked at held a charity event, which was a free treatment for the poor. When I first followed my colleagues from the hospital here, Shelly ran up to me like she just did and then hid in my arms."
Ally spread a warm smile toward the little girl in her arms, and Shelly rubbed her nose affectionately against Ally's like a small animal.
"She seems very trusting and dependent on you."
"Yes. I didn't stop helping with medical care in this area after the charity event ended. Every other week I come here to offer them the chance to be treated."
"That's very generous of you." I said to Ally appreciatively.
Ally shook her head, the look on her face like she was suffering.
"They're like trash forgotten and abandoned by everyone. They are forced to live in the filthiest of places."
Shelly may be a little girl, but she's not a lightweight. I noticed that it wasn't easy for Ally to carry her, and I tried to pick Shelly up.
"Oh, thank you very much for trying to help me. But shelly doesn't really like to be touched by strangers. So, I'm sorry."
Ally politely declined me.
"That's okay. I'm always willing to be of service."
I shook my head and quietly made a face at Shelly. She held Ally's hair out of her eyes, and I thought maybe she was shy.
I made another even more quirky face at her and Shelly laughed softly at my amusement.
Ally looked over at us curiously and asked Shelly pleasantly, "What did you find that would make you so happy?"
I winked at Shelly and raised my index finger at my mouth to try to get Shelly to keep this little secret.
Shelly covered her mouth with her little hand and nodded vigorously at me.
"It's nothing, just a few tricks." I said to Ally with a smile.
We didn't walk very fast, and it didn't take long to reach Shelly's doorstep.
It was a house that looked like it was on the verge of collapse, with a thin layer of wooden planks on the roof and a few rusty nails connecting them. There were piles of damp wood outside the door, and I figured they would have been too long ago to be lit for a fire.
I noticed that Shelly's mood was starting to get low, and she got off Ally's body nicely. Then she gently pulled Ally into her house.
As soon as I entered, I smelled a strong odor of alcohol mixed with the musty smell of humidity.
There was no artificial light anywhere in the house, no fireplace in the corner, no lamp on the table. The only light is from a huge hole in the roof, through which the warm sunlight pours in during the day. When it rains, a steady stream of rain should seep through the roof.
I tried to get used to the darkness around me, and I looked over at Ally, who seemed very familiar with the environment. She even led me around a pit in the ground.
"You know, it doesn't really smell good in here." I said to Ally with some hesitation.
"That's obvious." She shrugged.
"Maybe you should be prepared for that. Because this isn't even close to being the worst place in the area." She said calmly to me.
Ally's face held a helpless smile. I knew she didn't look like she was going to give in easily to this harsh environment.
I was silent and thoughtful, but I tried to keep from letting Ally's figure run out of my sight.
A thin woman sat on a stool, her hands like two dead logs. Even so, she kept sewing the clothes in her hands.
"Mom, Miss Ally is here." Shelly ran to her mother's side and told her mother.
Her mother looked up and spread a smile like Ally's feeble one.
"Mrs. White, how have you been doing?" Ally stepped forward and knelt down to gently hold Mrs. White's hand.
"As usual, Miss Ally."
Although Mrs. White did not seem to be in good health, her eyes always revealed kindness and tolerance.
Noticing my presence, she sized me up with a suspicious gaze.
"May I ask if this gentleman is here with you?"
Ally nodded, "Yes, he is my assistant."
"Mrs. White, you may address me as Tyler," I answered her.
Mrs. White covered her mouth and then started coughing incessantly. ally rushed to help her sit back on the bed.
"You should have finished taking the medicine I gave you last time, right? I brought you some more today. Please remember to take your medicine on time."
I handed the medicine box to Ally, who I thought would need it now.
Ally took two bottles of medicine out of the box and gently instructed Mrs. White. "Take two pills every day before you go to bed and after you get up so you can be healthy."
"Thank you. miss Ally." Mrs. White's eyes flowed with many grateful emotions.
"This wet and cold environment is really not suitable for getting well." Ally said to Mrs. White with a frown.
A hint of sadness passed over Mrs. White's face and she sighed. "God willing, when Shelly is old enough to be an adult, I'll get out of here and leave him."
"Who is he?" I asked.
Mrs. White turned her head away; she didn't look like she wanted to explain the question.
"It was her husband, Tom White," Ally shook her head, "Mr. White was a heavy drinker and he wasn't a good husband."
"Where is he now?" I asked Mrs. White.
"An hour ago, he robbed me of the money I had saved, the little I had earned by sewing clothes for the people in the village. I was going to use that money to pay for Shelly's schooling. But now..." Mrs. White cried helplessly.
"It's not your fault, because it's not something you can handle." I comforted Mrs. White.
"Does Mr. White often commit domestic violence against you?" I asked seriously.
Mrs. White looked at me and said. "Yes. Whenever he had money, he would take it and drink it. If I stopped him, he would beat me."
After saying that, Mrs. White rolled up her sleeve, revealing a bright red scar inside.
"Oh my God!" Ally drew a backward breath and an unbelievable sound escaped her throat.
"This fucking guy!"
I struggled to contain my almost-abrupt anger. "The bastard should be put in jail!"
"It's useless. He'll only beat us up worse when he comes back from jail."
Mrs. White's head was bowed and she was sobbing constantly, Shelly was good enough to help Mrs. White wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes with a handkerchief, "Mom, I will protect you. Don't be afraid."
" I will rub a very effective ointment on you, but it will sting a little. I need you to bear it for a while." Ally pulls out a clear glass jar filled with a light green ointment.
Mrs. White nodded and held out her arm to Ally, who picked up some of the ointment with a small spoon and carefully applied it to the wound on Mrs. White's arm.
The ointment smelled like flowers, a smell I was very familiar with. "Have you applied this ointment to me too?" Whispered Ally.
"Yes, it took me a whole jar for your abdominal wound." Ally finished, giving me a blank look.
"It's a medicine I configured myself. The main function of this medicine is to calm down and repair the wound." Although Ally kept explaining with her mouth, her hands did not stop moving.
"This is incredible!" Mrs. White said with surprise. "My wounds haven't hurt since I put the ointment on them."
"I just did what I could with my powers."
I was intrigued by Ally's healing abilities. It was unbelievable.
Ally's healing abilities far surpassed any of the doctors at Wind Pack. Even in the Blackout Pack, doctors with great healing abilities like Ally's are very rare.
My desire to bring Ally back to the Blackout Pack grew stronger and stronger. I saw her as my prey.
I didn't want to share everything about her with anyone, a very selfish thought I admit. But it was really what I was really thinking deep inside.
Ally noticed me staring intently at him, and I think it was my eyes that made her feel a little uncomfortable.
She looked at me suspiciously with her pretty lake blue eyes, "What's wrong, Tyler?"
"Nothing." I suppressed the possessiveness in my tone and pretended to be calm.
"I'm sorry." I hastily turned my head and casually surveyed the dilapidated house. But the house was spartan and crowded, and there really wasn't much to see.
A fat man staggered in, carrying a jug of brandy in his hand.
"Hey! How did these people get in here?" He leaned against the door and growled drunkenly.
"So it's Miss Ally!" Tom narrowed his eyes and poured a swig of brandy into his mouth. He let out a long burp and a very unpleasant odor from his mouth.
"What brings you noble upper-class people to our village?"
"Tom!" Mrs. White looked to the door in horror, the look on her face that had been so calm vanishing the moment Tom made the sound.
I noticed that Mrs. White's body began to tremble with fear, her face became as white as foam, and Shelly hid herself in her mother's arms in fear.
"Don't be afraid, madam." I stepped in front of the ladies to prevent this drunken man from going crazy and taking advantage of the opportunity to hurt the ladies.
This was entirely possible.
"Why are we only allowed to drink the water at the far end of the river?" Tom questioned angrily, his eyes red from drunkenness.
Tom struggled to get closer to me, and I grabbed a chair and put it between him and me. This would slow his advance and keep the weaker man safe.
"We're like the lowest of the low, living in this disgusting, filthy village!"
"Tom, don't keep talking!" Mrs. White shouted to stop. But it didn't make any difference.
Tom laughed coldly and slammed the brandy bottle in his hand on the ground. The expression on his face had been completely taken over by hatred.
"You think we'll be grateful because you helped us?"
"Marry, you stupid woman! I told you a long time ago not to have any more hope for these hypocrites!" Tom's face turned purple from anger, and he lunged at me like a wild animal that had become angry from hunger.
I assumed a defensive posture, clenching my teeth as Tom tried to ram me with his arm.
