Harmony
CHAPTER 19: HARMONY
~ Harper’s POV ~
I stopped to take in the sight. It is like I walked right into the scene of a fairy tale.
“It’s so soothing isn’t it.” I heard a soft voice. I raised my eyes in the direction of where the voice had come from. I stepped to the right just a little and angled my head trying to see around the fountain. I saw a swing and in it there was an older woman swaying back and forth. She had long silver hair. She was wearing a lovely sun dress. Her feet were bare. She was smiling at me warmly; her eyes were welcoming.
“I am sorry, I didn’t know anyone else was here. I was exploring the grounds. I hope I didn’t disturb you.” I said, giving an apologetic smile back to her.
“You are no bother at all. I am happy to see someone else walking through my garden. I hope you enjoy it just as I do. Please, come and have a seat.”
I walked over to where the lady had just stopped swinging. She patted the seat next to her inviting me to sit down. I smiled at her and lowered myself down into the soft cushion beside her. She proceeded to rock back and forth.
“I don’t think we have had the chance to meet. This is only my second day here. My name is Harper Rae. Thank you for creating such a beautiful garden. It has a calming sense about it. It is a beautiful distraction from everything.” The lady looked at me, smiling softly.
“That is why I created it. I would like for more people to see it that way. I want it to add a little bit of color to everyone’s life. There is too much war and rumors of war. Life wasn’t created for that. There should be unity with all living creatures big, small, weak, and powerful. I have a dream that one day all races can live in Harmony together.”
Her words were so sincere. I know she meant what she said. I looked at her,
“The Harmony Moon Pack?” she gave a smile knowing what I was asking.
“Yes, my dream of Harmony for all races is how our pack got its name.” I looked into her silver eyes. They were tired from age. They reminded me of Gabriel’s eyes.
Realization covered my expression. Forgive me Luna, I didn’t know it was you. The aura around her was that of love and sincerity.
“No apology is necessary my dear. My name is Mae. You are right I am the Luna of this pack. Was it my eyes that gave me away?” her smile never left her friendly face. I nodded my head and looked down trying to hide my flushed cheeks. Her next words caught me off guard. “Oh Harper, don’t be embarrassed. I know my son’s eyes are enchanting. I have seen how the girls look at him.” She giggled at me.
“Well, I guess you caught me. I was hoping it wasn’t really that obvious.” I tried to make eye contact with her, but I couldn’t. “Alpha Gabriel, is….”
Heat flooding my face again. What do I say to her? Do I tell her that I can’t quit thinking about her son? That I find him devastatingly attractive? No, I can’t do that! I need an escape from this conversation!
“Oh dear, I don’t think it can be any more obvious.” She giggled at me again. “You don’t have to be embarrassed; young love is a beautiful thing. My advice to you is just grab it and run.” I can’t help but feel surprised at what she was telling me.
She stopped for a moment, and it looked like she was lost in thought. “My son is special, and he is meant to have a special mate. Let things happen naturally and just see where it goes.” This lady was something else. She gave me a gentle hug “It was so nice to meet you Harper. I welcome you into our pack with open arms. There is a reason that our beloved Moon Goddess Selene has brought you to us. I have no doubts about that.”
“Thank you, Luna Mae. You don’t know how much that means to me.” She stood and turned to walk toward the exit of the garden.
“I hope to get to speak with you again soon Harper. You seem like a lovely girl. I hate to leave you, but it is time for me to retire to my room for the night. Please continue to enjoy the garden. You can consider it yours now.”
“Certainly, I look forward to it. Rest well Luna Mae.” She glanced back at me smiling one last time. Then I watched as she disappeared behind the fountain.
I started moving my feet, rocking the swing back and forth. The sound of music was muffled from the falling water of the fountain. This is a special place…
“Mind if I join you.” My heart stopped beating the moment I heard him. I raised my eyes to look in the direction of his voice. There he was, beside the fountain. The most handsome man in the world and he was staring at me.
Something about him being here right now and how he just showed up created a sensual mood that set me on fire. He started walking toward me. My heart was beating so fast in my chest that I could hear it thump in my ears. I swallowed deep. My breathing was shallow. I tried to hide how nervous I was, but it was no use. He was closer to me now. He looked at me and gave me a sweet smile that reached his stunning silver eyes. I chewed on my bottom lip and looked down to hide the red that had crept up my neck to my cheeks.
I didn’t realize he was standing right in front of me until I felt his fingers under my chin as he tilted my face up to look at him. His cedar and pine scent captured my attention, enticing me to edge closer. I shut my eyes and breathed deep.
