A GNAT IN THE EYE
CHAPTER 27: A GNAT IN THE EYE
~ Gabriel’s POV ~
Tanner threw himself back in his chair, as our meeting was coming to an end his mood was lightning back up.
“So, Gabe, are you going to explain to us the deal between you and Harper? Or should we keep walking around like we have no idea that you two have a thing…” Tanner said to me with one eyebrow raised. I laughed at him. The thought of Harper and I having a “thing” lightened my mood.
“Ok, since she and I were able to clarify things yesterday, I guess I can fill you two in.” Tanner grinned from ear to ear. More than ready to hear what I was about to say. I shook my head at him and rolled my eyes.
“Since the moment I first met Harper, I have been completely wrapped up in her.” Tanner looked at me confused.
“That doesn’t make a bit of sense, Gabe. I am going to need you to be more specific with what you are trying to say.” Tanner said with a look that would remind you of a doctor that was trying to diagnose you with a serious illness.
“She smells like freshly picked roses to me. Her scent drives me wild, and Mika can’t control himself around her. He wants to kill anyone who gets close to her.” Tanner leaned in closer to me.
“So, we know she smells good. I mean, that is a good thing. No one likes a stinky wolf but, what does this have to do with anything.” I gave Tanner a dead stare. Kai just laughed… How could Tanner not know where I was going with this?
I cleared my throat to continue trying to explain. “Would you get on with it, you’re killing me here?” Tanner said to me. Rotating his hands in a motion as if he was trying to hurry me along.
“Would you shut up and let me finish!”
“Fine, shit, go ahead.” Tanner said as he rolled his eyes. Kai busted out laughing. Mika was becoming agitated with Tanner. He was interested in what I was saying as well. Even though he knew all of this already.
“Has he always been like this? Like a gnat that dive bombs into your eye on a hot day just for shits and giggles.” Now it was my turn, I busted out laughing so hard I bent over in my chair.
Kai and Tanner looked at me. My face must have been red from laughing so hard. I looked at them.
“Sorry, it was something Mika said.” Trying to explain my outburst. I composed myself the best I could. Agreeing with Mika’s description of Tanner. “Tanner, you don’t seem to know this so as your alpha I guess I am here to educate you.” I said sarcastically, teasing Tanner. I knew it just wasn’t clicking in his head. He didn’t have a mate yet either. “Wolves can smell their fated mates, dummy. They don’t smell like everyone else to each other, remember?” Tanner leaned back and his mouth took on the shape of an O.
“Holy hell, so you’re saying she is your mate!”
Kai shook his head at Tanner taking so long to understand what I was trying to say.
“I am not sure because Harper doesn’t have her wolf yet. But I do know that I can’t get her out of my head. She is all I think about, and I have never been this possessive over a female in my life. I’m crazy about her. I am dying to mark her and officially make her mine….” Tanner jumped up, putting his hands out to stop me from talking.
“Woah, woah, there big alpha. We don’t need those kinds of details.”
I shook my head at Tanner. Kai was wearing a huge grin, amused at how Tanner was reacting.
“I swear Tanner, would you just let me talk! All we have done is kiss! For the Moon Goddesses sake, get a grip.” I said to Tanner he nodded his head and returned to his seat. “As I was trying to say. I feel like she is definitely my fated mate, the connection that I have to her is so strong. As for her, she also feels a connection with me but because she doesn’t have her wolf yet, we can’t confirm that I am her fated mate.” I looked at both Kai and Tanner.
Tanner smirked at me and raised one of his eyebrows as he spoke.
“So, did she say you smelled good?” I shook my head again, seeming to be the hundredth time today all because of Tanner! Kai laughed and slapped Tanner on the back.
“Let’s give Gabe a break. It's lunch time anyway. I’m hungry. Was there anything else we needed to discuss or are we good to go?” Kai asked me.
“I think that is it for now guys. Thanks for coming in. I’ll see you two a little later today. I have some things I need to take care of.”
They left my office and shut the door behind them. Now I have to make sure Harper has clothes to wear. I dialed Brenda’s number.
“Hi alpha Gabriel.”
“Hello, Brenda. Were you able to do as I asked of you?”
“Yes alpha. I am on my way to your location right now to drop these things off. I also have a selection of beautiful gowns for you to choose from. We can always alter them if they don’t fit just right.”
“That is great! Can you just have someone put the things in my room? Tell them to be discreet so no one else can see what is going on. I don’t want the girl I am doing this for to know. She wouldn’t accept any of this if she knew what I was doing.”
“Of course, dear. Relax and let me handle it. You should find everything in your room within thirty minutes.”
“Sounds good, thanks Brenda.”
“Anytime dear.”
I hung up the phone and allowed myself some time to think. Before I could even take a deep breath and blow it back out Tanner mind linked me and Kai. I smashed my hands to my face. What could he possibly want? He just left my office.
“GUYS!” Tanner said in a shocked and excited tone.
“What.” Kai and I said in unison.
“We totally forgot to cover the fact that Harper is a bad ass. Samantha didn’t have a chance. Do you guys think Harper was holding back? I think she was.” I laughed, happy to talk about Harper.
“Yeah, she was great. I wonder where she learned all of that from,” Said Kai.
“I bet she’s a demigod or something and she’s just not telling us!” Tanner exclaimed.
“No joke though, did you guys see her eyes change colors when she seemed to black out and lose it on Sam? They turned from green to light blue. Kind of like the color the moon is sometimes. How did that even happen if she doesn’t have her wolf yet?” Kai asked, seeming more curious than ever.
I’m not sure how her eyes changed colors like that, but they were stunning. It was as if they were illuminated light blue and white.
“Yeah, she did kick Sam’s ass and rightfully so. The bitch grabbed her by the hair of her head after the match was over. Harper put her in an arm bar and broke her elbow. She didn’t even hesitate. It’s like she has seen her fair share of combat. If she has, she hasn’t said anything to me about it. Who would let her go to battle without her wolf anyway? A demigod, really Tanner?” I spoke
.
“By the looks of it no one lets Harper do anything. She was going to fight Lauren until you told her “No”. Then she was totally ready to do the exact opposite of what you told her to do, Gabe. Maybe you should try asking instead of telling her next time.” Kai said to me laughing through our link.
“Yeah, I noticed that, Kai. I thought it was sexy though. I think I’ll tell her No more often just so I can see that cute look she makes when she decides that she won’t be told what to do.”
“Yeah, it was sexy the way she did that.” Tanner said just to get me heated.
“I’m letting Mika out on your ass next time I see you.” I groaned at Tanner
“I’m just having fun Gabe, hell. There are such things as demigods, right Kai?”
“I think the likelihood of Harper being a demigod would be um…. zero.” Kai said back to Tanner. I laughed.
“Guys, I know you can’t get enough of me, but I have to go. I’ll talk to you two later.”
I closed the link and exited my office. I made my way to the dining hall and grabbed a quick snack wrap and a bottle of water. Once I got to my floor, I walked to my door and unlocked it. I stepped into my room and was pleased to find that everything that I had asked for and more was neatly placed in my room on display so I could see. There were clothes galore, shoes, jewelry, lingerie, purses, and workout outfits. I smiled to myself looking at some of the lingerie. I could totally imagine her wearing any of these. I walked over to where the gowns were hanging. I combed through the selection and knew the moment I laid eyes on it. It’s perfect and I can’t wait to see her in it. The day of the celebration is the day after tomorrow, and it couldn’t get here soon enough. Maybe I’ll finally have a mate.
