SHE WON'T WAKE UP
CHAPTER 45: SHE WON’T WAKE UP
~ Gabriel’s POV ~
I woke up to the sun beaming through my bedroom window. Last night felt like a nightmare dream. I turned to my right and Harper was still fast asleep. I leaned down and gave her a soft kiss. I don’t want to, but I have to face things today. I slowly moved off my bed and walked into my bathroom. I need to wash the filth from Thane’s cells off me. I looked at myself in the mirror. Shit, I knew I must look bad, but I could play a zombie in one of those movies. My mind went to Mika.
“Mika, where are you?” Nothing... I'm getting worried about him. I haven't heard from him in hours. I took off my clothes and threw them on the floor next to the hamper. I plan to throw them away later. I turned on the shower and walked in slowly. The hot water made its way from my head to my feet, causing me to relax a little. I quickly washed my hair and body. I grabbed a towel to dry my hair, chest arms and legs, then placed it around my waist. I walked over to my sink and quickly brushed my teeth and shaved my face. I styled my hair the way I always do, then I walked into my room and picked out some clothes. I settled on traditional black slacks and a white button up shirt. I guess I need to look professional. I rolled the sleeves of the shirt up to my elbows like I always do. I mind linked Kelly.
“Kelly, are you available?” I asked her.
“I am Alpha, what do you need?” She asked.
“I have some things I need to do. Are you able to look after Harper for me?” I trust Kelly, she cares a lot for harper.
“Most definitely, I’ll be right up.” I closed the link and waited on Kelly. Looking over to Harper I notice her body was still in the same position that I placed her in last night. I walked over and gently rolled her slightly onto her side and recovered her. I heard a soft knock on my door and went to open it. I held it wide to let Kelly in.
“She won’t wake up Kelly, I am just giving her some time.” she nodded to me.
“I’ll take care of her.”
“Has everything been set up for the celebration later?” I asked Kelly, wondering if it was too late to cancel.
“Yes, Alpha Gabriel. Everything has been taken care of. We have received confirmation that almost all the packs that we invited will be here.” Maybe this isn’t a bad thing. It will be a great chance to talk with the leaders of the ally packs and let them know what happened last night.
“Thank you, Kelly, I will leave you with Harper now. Please, mind link me if anything happens, or she wakes up.”
“Certainly, Alpha.”
I shut the door and started down the hallway. I stopped at my mother's door. I need to check on her. I knocked. I heard soft steps coming toward the door. When my mother opened her door, I realized I was looking into the eyes of a heartbroken woman. I grabbed her up in a tight hug.
“I’m sorry Mom.” She returned my hug with her own. We broke away and she pulled me from the hallway into her room. I shut the door behind me.
“Come and have a seat with me Gabriel.” I did as she said. I sat across a table from my mother. Her hair was a mess. Her eyes were red and swollen. I could tell she hadn’t slept; the bed was still made. She grabbed my hands from across the table.
“Mom, I don’t know what to say.” I lowered my head. “You must want to know what happened.” I looked back up to my mother, and she softly smiled at me.
“I know what happened, my son. Your father knew there was a good chance that he wouldn’t be coming back home. We had sat in a meeting with the pack that had been watching over the little girl. She finally was able to communicate what had really happened at her pack. Your father knew that Thane had obtained the terminal stone.” I looked at her in shock.
“So, he had already planned to sacrifice himself if he had to?” she nodded her head.
“Yes, for our son and pack he was ready.” She sat up and straightened her shoulders. “Now, we have a celebration to host. Also, we have some announcements to make.” She looked at me and smiled again. “You my son must be officially made alpha of this pack. We don't have to do it tomorrow, but we should soon.” I took a deep breath. My mother always made me feel better, but it was so hard during times like these. I know she was trying to be strong for me.
“Of course, Mother.” I stood and walked over to her. I leaned down and gave her another hug.
“I love you Mom, and Dad said he loves you too.” I felt her nod softly into my shoulder. I pulled back and looked at her once more. She gave me a reassuring smile, and I turned to walk out of her room.
I walked down the stairway and into the dining hall. I didn’t feel like eating so I decided to walk around and talk with the pack members. Everyone gave their condolences, and I knew they really meant it. My father was a great leader, and truly loved by all our pack members. Tanner and Kai were seated at one of the tables. They were busy eating when I sat down.
“Hey Gabe, how are you feeling?” Kai asked me.
“I feel fine, just a lot on my mind. Tanner did everyone make it back last night?” He looked down.
“We lost a few, Gabe. They made it out but were injured too bad to heal. They passed on the way home.” I nodded my head
“Can you get me a list of all the deceased. I want to visit with their families.”
“Yeah, that’s no problem. I’ll get it ready and put it on your desk.”
“Thank you.” He nodded to me.
“How is Harper doing this morning? Was she ok when she woke up?”
“I don’t know. She looks fine, but she hasn’t awoken yet.” Silence fell between the three of us. “Kai, once the leaders of the ally packs start arriving, I need you to gather them and arrange a meeting. There are things that need to be discussed urgently.” Kai nodded to me. I stood from my seat and walked down the hallway to my office. I glanced toward my father’s office door. I took a deep breath and opened the door to my office. I need to put together a list of things that must be discussed with the ally pack leaders. I sat down at my desk and went to work. I was in the middle of my list when I heard a familiar voice.
“Already working? You couldn’t take one day off after being in captivity.”
“Mika! Where have you been? And I wasn’t in captivity, I was waiting for a good time to make my move.”
“Resting, that surge of power that you felt in the dungeon didn’t just affect you, it also affected me. And... you looked captive to me. You were chained to a wall for crying out loud!” I decided to ignore that last part.
“It affected you in what way?”
“Let's just say it changed us. But the transformation has not been completed yet.”
“Don’t be so vague, Mika. I am not in the mood for it.”
“I can’t go into any detail right now, but you will find out soon.” He walked into the back of my mind and disappeared again. I rubbed both my hands over my face. I am confused now more than ever.
