CHAPTER 40: LEARNING MORE ABOUT HARPER
~ Gabriel’s POV~

I slammed and bashed against the bars coated in wolfsbane. Every time I made contact with them my skin sizzled like I was burning. I ignored the pain. Nothing could hurt as bad as the pain of losing Harper. It felt like my soul was being torn apart the moment that piece of shit picked her up and threw her into the backseat of that car. I don’t know where Harper is right now, and it scares me to death. What has he done to her already? What is he doing to her now! I guess I am in some kind of dungeon. Fuck this place! I am going to burn it all to the ground along with every last evil soul in it! But not Thane, that son of a bitch is going to suffer. Mika and I both grin running our tongue over our teeth anticipating the moment we get to taste his blood. I bent and broke the frame of the makeshift bed that was bolted to the floor. I used a piece of the metal to bang on the cell bars while yelling. I need to get someone's attention. I heard a loud creek and soft footsteps entering. A female? I’ll kill her too. A low rumble vibrated my chest as Mika was ready to move. He is hurt but too stubborn to back down, we both are. We are about 70% healed already. I will have my full strength back in no time.

A small lady stepped in front of the bars. She looked timid and scared. Her clothes were dirty both her bonnet, dress, and apron. She’s a servant. Mika settled down. She looked too scared to speak to me, so I spoke first.
“Who are you?” I asked her. My tone is harsh, but it’s not like I can smile right now. She bowed her head to me.
“Forgive me alpha Gabriel, I am not supposed to be talking to you. I am only talking to you now to show that I mean no disrespect towards you or your title.” She said regretfully.
“Please, can you tell me where Harper is? What has he done to her? Do you know if she is ok? I understand you can’t talk but give me that.” the woman looked right then left and lowered her voice.
“Harper arrived at the packhouse about two hours ago. It was around the same time you were brought here. I only know what I have heard from the other servants around the house. Someone said there was a lot of yelling and banging coming from Alpha Thane’s room. They even said they heard a loud roar-like sound. Harper has not left the room, that is all I know.” I started taking my bare fist and slamming it over and over on the cell bars. I need to release some steam! The lady became frightened and backed up from me.
“No, no, don’t go. I am sorry I frightened you.” She nodded and stepped back toward me. “Thank you for telling me what you know. Can you tell me where I am?” She nodded her head. She checked to make sure no one was listening before she answered my question.
“You are in the dungeons deep below the packhouse. No one can hear you from here. Harper was still upstairs before I came down here.” Her face showed pain when she spoke of Harper. She must know her.
“Do you know Harper?” I asked her. She nodded her head yes to me.
“Harper and I became very close while she was here, but I have known of her since she was a newborn baby. I knew if anyone could escape it would be her. She has always been so witty, strong, and brave. She easily excelled at everything she set her mind to do. She is special...” The lady said, lowering her head as she said the last three words. I am confused.
“What do you mean she is special? Does this have something to do with her birthday?” What does she know?
“Yes, she is said to be special. It isn’t her birthday that is important. Great power is resting within her, and we believe it’s waking up. It is said that she was visited by the Moon Goddess Selene herself along with other powerful beings the day of her birth. She is supposed to be blessed by them. The rest you already know, I'm sure.” The lady said. Now I am even more confused.
“You mean her wolf is waking up? Her birthday is tomorrow. Blessed by Selene and other powerful beings?” I was thinking out loud. She bit her lip and looked around nervously again.
“Alpha Thane doesn't know all of this. Even the alpha who ruled before Thane wasn’t told. Harper's parents shared this information with only a handful of pack members that they trusted.” She said to me, I interrupted her.
“Then why are you telling me all this?” I said, crossing my arms. This is all really hard to believe.
“Because I can tell that you care for her, and she is in a lot of trouble right now. I as well as others who know about Harper are working behind the scenes to help, but there’s not much that we can do. Our loved ones are being executed and tortured every day for the smallest mistake. We are all broken” I nodded at her.
“I understand, I am sorry for your lost loved ones. I hate to press you further, but can you tell me about this power that is asleep within her?” I asked.
“I don’t know a lot about it, only that her wolf is special. The wolf was kept by Selene’s side until she found a human that could control the wolf. Harper's mate is also supposed to have a special wolf whose powers awaken the night that Harper gets her wolf. We believe this is why Alpha Thane wants her. He only knows the old stories about the wolf that awakens on the day of the solar eclipse and summer solstice. He doesn't know everything else, or even if it's true. He has a theory that if he marks her, he will gain said power.”
“That power hungry piece of shit better not touch her.” Anger was boiling up in me again. She pushed her hands up to stop me from talking.
“I am sorry alpha Gabriel; I don’t have much more time. I need to tell you one last thing. We don’t know for sure. Neither did Harper’s parents, but the other powerful beings who were with Selene, had a reason to be there. I don’t know what they were, gods, dragons I don’t know. Any powerful being is going to have a good reason to show up at a random baby’s birth.” She said. She paused to listen to some sounds coming from outside the main dungeon entrance. “Also, I was supposed to come in here to yell at you for causing so much noise. So, if you're questioned, make it believable.” I nodded my head at her and motioned for her to go. She smiled at me and slowly stepped away. I heard the metal door squeak and latch closed.

I had a long time to think about what that servant told me. I was sitting against the stone wall of my prison cell. Going through all the information that I was just told. She seems to believe all of this. I don’t think Harper knows any of this. So, whoever Harper’s fated mate is should also obtain great power. I let my head fall back against the stone wall harder than I meant to, causing a thump sound. I took a deep breath and sighed. How in the hell am I going to get Harper out of this? My mind traveled back to last night. I remember her laugh and her bright smile when I caught her. She was trying to run from me. I smiled to myself, but the smile soon faded as my mind shifted back to this hell hole that I am currently in. I heard clicking from a metal door. Someone is coming... this time it’s a man, I thought.
“Or a really big woman...” Mika exclaimed. He was back to his normal self. Ready to kill everybody that crossed us.
“How can you be so bleh at a time like this?” I asked him while I rolled my eyes.
“Because we are getting out of this, and we are taking Harper with us!” Mika said. Before I could respond.
