CHAPTER 54: RISE OF THE LYCANS
~ Gabriel’s POV~
I could feel my muscles growing stronger. My sight, hearing, and sense of smell became 10X better than it was before. My claws started to extend; they were different. They were longer and sharper. My fangs extended as my snout grew. My wolf’s black fur tore through my skin as my paws took shape. I shut my eyes until the shift was completed. It was intense, like changing for the first time. Something feels different though. I am taller. I look down, I am standing on my hind legs! My paws look more like feet and hands!
“What the hell just happened?! How the fuck am I talking?!” Was that the moon goddess? I am freaking out! I turn to check on Harper. She is standing in front of me, and she is stunning.
“Mia, my mate.” I hear Mika purr. Her fur was pearl white, and it had a blue sheen depending on the way she turned. Her claws were like mine, extra-long and sharp. Her blue eyes pierced into mine as her gaze fell on me. Her snout was larger than that of a normal wolf. It had to be to contain those K-9’s. We were both huge and standing on two feet. I would venture to say that we matched Thane in height.
“Are you ok, baby?” Mika and I both spoke to our mate at the same time.
“I am fine, I feel a substantial increase in my strength and everything else. How do you feel?” She asked me.
“I feel the same. I have never felt this strong before, and we are talking in our wolf form. Is that what this is? Our wolf form.” Mika decided to answer me.
“We are no mere wolf now, Gabriel. We are now Lycans, the first of our kind, and the King of all werewolves.” Mika’s voice boomed. Harper looked at me, not seeming surprised. Well, I am in fucking shock! Harper walked toward me.
“Let’s go for a run.” She spoke.
“How do we even run with these things?” I asked her. Really, I am lost here.
“I will handle it Gabe.” Mika replied to me. He was excited to run with his mate.

I grinned back at Harper, and we took off. We were running on all fours. Our speed was off the charts. The human eye couldn’t follow our movements, and still even the best eyes could only catch glimpses of us. I couldn’t take my eyes off Harper. She was amazing, elegant, and graceful. The way she ran, jumped, and moved was mesmerizing. We kept running, hard and fast. We were flirting and playing with each other. We came to a stop in a clearing in the woods. Neither of us were tired. I walked over to her still on all fours and nuzzled her with my nose. Mia gave a low growl that lit Mika’s fire. Before we could react, we hear a *crack, stomp* What’s that? The sound wasn’t near, but someone was tailing us. I glanced at Harper, she heard it also. I raised my nose in the air. Their scent has been masked. They don’t want us to know what pack they are from. They could also be rogues, but I wouldn’t be able to tell until I was able to see them. I growled, I want to go after whoever it is, but Harper is with me. I paused to listen as I heard them whisper.
“Shhh, they’re going to hear us.”
“Don’t worry Sam. There’s no way they can hear us from this distance away.” Samantha? What the hell is she doing? Why is she following us? Who is that with her?
“I am surprised we were able to get away with following them the first time with your clumsy feet!” First time?
“You have to admit, that plan went better than expected. Thane and his men were able to intercept them easily, and we got to watch a good show while Alpha and Harper fooled around at the waterfall. Mumm…” Realization hit me, it all made sense now.
“This is how Thane was able to find us. They told him exactly where to be, and when to be there!” Harper said. My anger clouded my consciousness. I growled with my fangs bared.
“It’s fucking Preston! He was watching us. He is the reason you were taken. He saw you…. Exposed! He will not get a quick death!” I let out a massive growl that shook the ground. Leaves fell from trees and birds flew away in a hurry. I launched forward in a blind rage. I am going to give him a slow death!
“Gabriel, wait!”



~ Harper’s POV ~
Gabriel was out of my sight before I could even begin to run. I followed his scent and the sound of the faint noises that we were hearing. Gabriel will kill Preston, and maybe even Samantha if I can’t get there in time. I am running as fast as Mia will let us go. I came to a sliding stop when I came upon Gabriel holding Preston high in the air by his neck.
“You are nothing but a piece of shit traitor! I am going to kill you slowly.” He dropped him to the ground. Samantha took off running. I wanted to go after her, but I didn’t want Gabriel to kill Preston.
“Wh…what are you?” Preston asked Gabriel. Gabriel smiled.
“I am your Alpha and your worst nightmare; you backstabbing piece of shit!”
“Gabriel, no! you don’t have to do this. We should take him to the cells. Let the council punish him.” Gabriel growls then turns to me.
“He violated you Harper! He didn’t look away when you were vulnerable! He probably satisfied himself while looking at you. Sick piece of s**t! Then he led Thane right to us. That’s how you got taken! This son of a bitch needs to suffer and die.” I grab his arm. I want to calm him.
“You're right, but he may have information about Thane that we need. We should at least try to get what we can out of him.” Gabriel looks at me and nods.
“Fine, after the integration, I will kill him. Don’t try to talk me out of it. He is scum of the earth.” I don’t disagree with Gabriel. If he chooses to punish Preston, no one will dare question him. Especially now that he is the Lycan King. Everyone will freak out once they see him.
“They will freak out when they see us.” Mia corrected me. I have no idea what being Lycan King and Queen even means. This is all new. Gabriel leaned down and picked Preston up like a twig. He snapped both his legs at the knee joint. The sound of the bones twisting, and cracking was familiar to me. That sound made me sick during my early days of training. After becoming a little more experienced, I got over it. Preston’s screams were that of a suffering man, and his suffering had only just begun.
Back at the pack house it is around 5:00am. I convinced Gabriel to take Preston to the cells, then meet me in bed. We can talk to Preston tomorrow.
“I am going to let that motherfucker heal overnight then re-break his legs in the morning.” Gabriel was wearing a sinister smile. He really is a relentless leader.
“What about Samantha?” I asked him. Surely, he’s not going to just let her go. I know she has a family here that is high ranking members, but she is not above almost having the Alpha killed.
“Oh, she will be caught. She is not getting out of this. She will meet the same fate as Preston when I get my hands on her. I have trackers looking for her right now.”

A knock sounded on my bedroom door. It was Tanner, I could tell the difference in most everyone’s knocks now.
“Come on in!” I said. Tanner walked in followed by Kelly. They were laughing and giggling. They look so cute together. We are all sure that they are fated mates just like Gabriel and I. Tanner turned to Gabriel and walked in. He instantly stopped in his tracks and looked at Gabriel and I. Shock and uncertainty was written all over his face. Kelly stayed at my door, she looked concerned. This doesn't surprise me. No one knows about Gabriel and I being Lycan’s yet. Tanner and Kelly are the first to know.
“Uh... may I speak, Alpha?” He asked. This is totally out of his character. Gabriel nods his head, giving Tanner permission to speak. “Don’t take this the wrong way but what the hell are you two? Your aura is heavy with extreme authority. It’s like nothing I have ever felt before. Are you two alright?” Gabriel and I look at each other.
“Tanner, the stories were all true to a degree. Harper was chosen by the moon goddess to be the vessel for the first Lycan ever to be born. Mika has also been transformed into a Lycan because I am her fated mate. We don’t know much about any of this yet. Everything is new, even our wolves look different.” Tanner’s eyes were big, he gulped.
“Gabriel, you are no longer an Alpha. Your aura suggests something a lot stronger. Harper is the same.” I nod.
“Tanner, this is confusing to all of us currently. The moon goddess told me that I as well as my fated mate are the first Lycan King and Queen. We are unsure what all this means. As far as Gabe and I are concerned, we are the same as before. We may have more authority, but our characters and personalities are the same.” I told him. I glanced at Kelly and smiled. She seemed to relax. Was she scared of us? Tanner sighed as if he had been holding his breath.
“Thank goodness, you guys are intimidating to say the least. What do your wolves look like? Are they bigger, shiny eyes or something?” Gabriel and I laugh.
“That is something I will have to show you tomorrow. I have things I need you to do for me.” Tanner focused on Gabriel and what he was saying. “Keep me updated on the search for Samantha. I want her brought to me alive. Inform the pack that there will be a mandatory meeting tomorrow. Have Kai contact all pack Alpha’s even non allies. I want them to attend. I have something that must be said to everyone.” Tanner nodded to Gabe.
“As always, I am on it. Umm...” Tanner shifted his weight from one foot to the other in a nervous motion. “Are we still best friends?” Gabriel looks at Tanner like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Yes, you jackass, I didn’t become a different person.” Tanner gave us his usual big smile.
“Good, because I couldn’t tell with your intense *Dwayne the rock Johnson* stare. What’s it called? The smolder look or something like that.” We all busted out laughing. When Tanner left, Gabriel and I decided to cuddle in my bed and get some rest. We have a long day ahead of us once we wake up.
