Chapter 34 Haunting past

"E-excuse me! Do you know where this is?" She panicked as she looked hopefully at the woman. Her brown eyes expectedly looked towards as she hope-
"Sí, dietro l'angolo." The woman replied.
"English, please!" Sadie shook her head.
The woman nodded.
"Around...corner...that." The woman pointed towards the white glass building. Sadie noticed few cars parked outside when her eyes caught small eating stall.
Sadie was about to thank her when she noticed that she was already gone. Her heart pounded drastically against the cage of her heart.
She remembered how quiet vividly her mind surrendered itself to the war of ger heart that throbbed when she drugged Silvio. She had finally surprised herself that she was for once able to outsmart him but she already knew the consequences. Hell would break lose when Silvio would get his hands on her.
Gulping the thickness of saliva, she jogged towards the stall in rushing steps.
"Come here." She remembered the oceanic depth of his words. The passion of his fingertips that skim affectionately across her aching skin willed her with a breathlessness that one couldn't put into terms.
But she lost.
She lost to her heart to her mind. Her shaking fingers grabbed the sides of her dress.
Nervously, she stood in front of stall. Her arms shivering with cold wind, the night sky filled with chasmic stars, the moon glowed bright. The city still had hustle-bustle. She just couldn't believe she just escaped the infamous mafia leader.
But the silence in her heart was severe, but what was more brutal was that she could feel the chaotic emotions inside her.
"Good evening, Ms. Quintin." Sadie flinched when a voice muttered from behind her. Almost jumping upon her feet, she immediately looked back. The darkness in the alley forbid her to see anything but the fragrant moonlight was illuminating.
"Y-yes?" She whispered.
The masked man nodded.
"I will escort you. Come." She could hear slight heaviness in his accent. She was sure he was a italian also. Without having any option, she followed after him. With a sigh she again remembered the text she received few hours ago.
An unknown address with a persons name, the Randy guy, and a threat she was well familiar with. Her heart beat was accelerated, making her jump in fright now and then.
He escorted her towards the dark alley in back, she looked unsurely at him for a second, with a heavy sigh, she followed him. Her feet dragged her to her destination. Going inside the building in corner, the man ushered her to left door. Weekly nodding, she entered the room. The darkness of night was replaced with bright lights. It took her a moment to adjust herself to sudden brightness.
Opening her eyes, she saw two men sitting around the corner, the white walls of room looked devoid of any memories, a freshly new scent of paint lingered in air. Confusion masked her eyes as he furrowed her brows.
"Evening, Ms. Quintin." One with dark grey suit said, his hands rested intimidatingly over armrests of chair he was sitting on. The dire circumstances looked hazardous to her. With a shaking breath, she stabled her trembling hands.
Eyes trained ahead, her long, tangled locks bounced as she looked around the room with purpose. Her nerves were vibrating and tethering on the edge, but she clung to the reason why she came to a place like this....to save him.
Her clammy hands smoothed the dress she wore, the dress she chose to impress the man she betrayed not just two hours ago. Guilt was too much but risk was heavier.
"W-who are you?" Are you the one who sent me those texts? She wanted to add.
"My deepest apologies to disappoint you but I can not tell you anything before you meet Master."
The man apologetically bowed his head as Sadie noticed slight accent in his voice. Of course she was in deep mess.
Master.
Confusion stirred inside her.
"Please follow me." The man interjected her train of thoughts as he motioned for her to follow him.
She scanned the area once more, the surroundings were dim with few well-built men patrolling the area here and there. The area was quiet, too serene for her liking. With steady steps, she followed him. It was a stupid move to come here on her own and she also knew that the time Silvio would get his hands on her again, she would be done for.
The man opened another whote door, leading them inside when her eyes landed on middle-aged man in middle of the room.
He wore white suit with black charcoal grey shirt underneath. His tall statue and dark brown eyes intimidated her for a moment. The slight dark protruded stubble underneath his chin added terrifying pinch to his domineering aura. For a second she believed that she had seen him somewhere but couldn't quiet pin-point the familiarism.
With unfamiliarity dancing in her eyes, Alejandro smirked. With arms opened wide he grinned at her.
"Finally! Good to see you, Sadie." His deep voice ringed in her ears and she couldn't help but shudder at the depth. She had never seen him yet she felt deja-vu hitting her.
"Who are you?" Her voice came out stable than she anticipated. She hide to tremble of her hands behind the fabric of her dress.
Alejandro's grin widened.
"What's the rush, dear? We've got a lottt of time to get acquainted, don't we?" He raised his dark brow.
She sighed.
"Why am I here? Are you the one-"
She was rudely interuppted as Alejandro threw his head back laughing. For a second she thought him to be a psycho. The other two men in room had already left, leaving her quiet devastated with man she barely knew. The harsh pounding of her heart against the rib of her chest added fuel to her anxiousness.
"No, no. I would never do that to you." He stopped laughing as he tilted his head to side assessing her from top-to-bottom before nodding his head. "But I see why he's obsessed with you. You look just like her."
Sadie's brows furrowed in confusion before she felt him staring at her.
"What do you mean? Her? Who are you talking about?" Sadie catechize, the nerve of her brain pondered over the words Alejandro let out.
His hazel eyes shone with unsaid glint of evilness.
"Truth is a bitter medicine, medico. Do you desire to sense variety of situation?"
"Truth is truth, sir. And no matter how much it will hurt me, I wish to know."
She replied. There were so many unresolved inquires in her mind. Deducing the words of the strange man in front of her, she knew she was about to unveil the heavy candour.
Alejandro turned around, his long white coat followed his movements, walking towards the window, he leaned against the railing of the window. His hands folded behind his back as he watched the dark tarpaulin of night, bright stars gazing down at him.
"Your father? How's he?" Alejandro took her off guard.
A rush of fear and vexation urge to unfolded through her veins. She blinked her eyes few times, contemplating if he was threatening her or he really wished to know. Whatever the reason was, it left her wrecked. The irony of situation overwhelmed her to no limit.
"Do you know him?" She asked carefully.
If he meant threat to her father, she would be a fool to provoke him further. She had nothing left, yet she had enough to lose.
Alejandro chuckled, Sadie still couldn't saw his face but she could read his body posture.
"Brian and I are acquaintances. There's a lot I don't know about him but we're old friends actually."
Again she found his answer extra odd. Her father never told her about him, or maybe he specifically never told her.
"I don't know. He never mentioned you." She mumbled under her breath. She heard Alejandro sighing as he shook his head like something was bothering him.
"Why would he? I destroyed his family."
Her eyes widened, for a second she found herself froze. The weight was too much to carry. The neurons stopped working as she gulped down.
"W-What do you mean?" She stammered.
Heaving a deep sigh, Alejandro turned around. Sadie swore she was something flashing like pity in his eyes as he stared at her. She was shocked, battered.
"It's a story for another time. It is not like you are going anywhere any time soon." That was when she knew something was up with this man. Who was he? How did he knew her father? Destroyed? What did that meant?
She parted her mouth to drew in a deep breath when the startling knock on door alarmed her. Before she could look back, a head poked inside.
"loro sono qui," the man said, ignoring her presence as he looked past her at Alejandro.
With a barely noticeable nod of his head, Alejandro looked at Sadie.
"You'll have most of your answers by end of the night."
The door closed behind her as she glared at man who refused to give her any straight answer. She felt extremely baffled to desire to know resided truths that was yet to unveil.
Setting down the growing nervousness, she caught the first thought that knocked on the door. The irksome picture of Silvio baffling the whole city to search for her comes forth to mock her. This connection she unintentionally shared with him, how could she break it? Now she realised, without giving second thought to situation she herself walked on the edge of sharp cliff, knowing she was surrounded by ocean on both sides.
She was a fool.
Now that she had time to herself, even though for a minute fraction of time, she contemplated over her actions. By walling in lion's den, she had put Silvio in more danger. He would look for her which ultimately would would led to him being vulnerable, and for his enemies, it would be a good opportunity to strike a wounded lion.
She was stuffed with her stupidity when the door again opened, jumping with startling shriek, she immediately looked back, her hand came to rest over her pounding heart when her eyes suddenly widened and with a shaky breath, she stumbled backward.
She indeed was a fool.
Her eyes couldn't believe what she was witnessing, her thoughts seemed to block her processing center. Dilemma of situation pulled her into a dark abyss that she tried to forget all those years. H-how could it be? She had precisely escaped him, she had left the pieces kf her past behind. Then why? Why was her past in front of her to haunt her.
"I-I-" her mouth parted in shock, she tried but words seemed to froze.
A tall man wearing a long black coat and shades entered the room.
"Really, Sadie? You won't even look at me?"
Sadie cautiously inhaled and exhaled before she took a step back. Her heart skipped several beats, breathing became choppy.
"There she is..."
"E-Edward-"
"Oh, it's Edward, now?"
She shouldn't had. How could she be so careless.
"Y-you! This...this can't be-"
"I missed you." Edward said quickly.
Sadie swallowed thickly as she tried to find her words. How in the world did he find ger here?
His hairs had grown thicker, the beard framing his chin was new...unlike his style. There was a more rugged look to him than she last remembered. His charcoal eyes lingered on her and for a moment she fragments of man she once loved.
"You never stop being beautiful, do you, love?"
She violently shook her head. No. He didn't deserved call her that after what he had done to her, the things that made her nearly forget herself. She took rythmic breaths before stumbling more back when she fet pair of hands halting her movements.
Looking alarmed over her shoulders, she trembled.
Alejandro smirked down at her.
"Come on, medico. Don't be so mean."
Her breath knocked out as she saw Edward approaching her reciprocating the smirk on Alejandro's face.
How could she? How could she hello to person who destroyed her? The one who claimed to be her lover, snatched the love from her life. Her heart pained. Her struggles died as Alejandro squeezed her shoulder with such fervor that it left stinging sensations on the spot. Leaning his head to her ears, as her eyes glued on Edward, he whispered.
"Say hello to your fiance, medico."
