Chapter 36 Fragments
"What do you mean by 'not trackable'?"
My voice resonated through the walls of my room, Dante stared at me like I've lost my mind, maybe I did. His bearded jaw slacked with disappointment. Like me, he was up the whole night despite our late arrival few hours ago. Not to mention he was still wounded.
"All the CCTV's have been tampered. All the footages after twelve pm are either blank or deleted. It seems like someone has-"
"Meddled with the security system. But who?"
Dante preceded, the crutch beneath his right shoulder hit the floor as he walked towards Micah. I sighed, this was getting us nowhere. Four hours. Four fucking hours and it was still hard to track her.
Rage. It was consuming me to know she was out there somewhere, away from my reach.
Micah leaned against the wall, his charcoal eyes coolly amused as he crossed his trouser-clad legs at the ankles. "It would be fun to seize the traitor. I wonder who that'd be?"
I twisted my mouth in frustration, "That son of bitch is as good as dead." The latter was not true, actually. I had my doubts on someone, but I couldn't blame without any solid proof even though, I know my instincts could never be wrong.
I want—no, I need—to find Sarah before I embark on my designated mission. Also, my hackers were hot on Silas Anderson's tail and may uncover another lead soon. He's the last name on my list, and by far most elusive. He had made me what I was today, a murderer. He's also the fucking bastard who pulled the trigger of gun years ago, which makes him responsible for the massacre of my father and brother. If not for Sarah's escape, I might had killed that bastard yesterday.
Yes. I knew about her escape plan. Not necessarily, the plan, but I was informed about the phone found under the bed. It was quiet startling to know how she get that damn device, but my doubts cleared when Miranda informed me that Sarah had been acting strange since past few days.
And I was a litte late.
I knew she was going to make a escape. But not this early, not when I would be naked, ready to pound her. My little doctor indeed was heartless, to drug me so fiercely.
Yesterday was chaotic, Dante getting shot, Silas's escaped. As it was, however, by the time I detoured to the mansion and I send my men to capture Silas, he had performed his disappearing act again. Only this time, his tail was fresh, and my hackers had better idea where to look.
I was going to find Silas Anderson, and when I do, I would tear that puttana limb to limb.
"I don't know why, but I have this eerie feeling since yesterday. Do you really think Sarah is that smart to meddle with security system? She barely knows the mansion." I was staring to lose patience. I need to find her but first I needed to keep my calm. Patience's a virtue.
"Whoever it is, I'm going to find the bastard." I had my few doubts on Silas, if he was the reason behind Sarah's disappearance. "Call Severin, we're meeting with him."
"Really?" Micah crossed the room and sits on adjacent sofa next to limping Dante. "Are you sure about that? After knowing that we tried to kill his brother yesterday, do you really think he will gladly help us?"
His voice was silky soft, but I know a challange when I hear one.
Keeping my expression calm, I walked over to him. Dante, who knew me best, prudently stepped away, but the adamant bastard didn't budge. Regarding me with his dark eyes, as I casually round the table and approach Micah.
"So you think I'm reasoning with my dick?" The softness of my voice matches his. "You think I'm willing to get us all killed to get Sarah back?"
Micah gulped as his eyes lowered.
"I don't know. Are you?" His body was slightly trembling, but his eyes were cold and sharp. Just like the man I had trained.
My lips stretch in a grim smile as my right hand closed around the collar of his polo-neck. "And If I were?"
Micah held my gaze for a few tensed seconds as air in the room thickened with tension. I like Micah, but i couldn't let this insubordination stand. He k ew what he was signing up for when he joined the mafia, was fully aware that to participate in the lucrative business I was building, he'd have to help me with my personal agenda, which no more was personal. That was our dead, he would avenge his parents death, alongside me, and I intended to hold him to it, even if it's now Sarah escape that motivates my actions instead of my dead father and brother.
"Micah," Dante's voice is quiet as he limped towards the younger one. A massive hand was placed on Micah's shoulder as Dante mumbled. "Silvio knows what he's doing."
Micah remained silent for a moment as I retracted my hand into the pockets kf my pants. An audible gulp sounded as Micah nodded.
He was scared. He was youngest of all. And he had seen more.
I needed to be more careful if I needed to bring Sarah back and kill Silas.
I need to kill two birds with one stone.

As three of us held each other's gaze, I couldn't help but notice the tension in the room. I didn't knew if I was too startled to not process his words or too calm to know what he said could be true and I suddenly did not cared.
"I do not believe you." I said to him. The older man sighed, bending his neck as he looked towards the ceiling before pinching the bridge of his nose. I was irking him.
"Well, not technically my real sister, but step-sister. She might had not unveil the capes of past but I can assure you I am your family, medico."
"But families don't stalk each other."
"You're an exception."
My blood boiled with rage and yet there was undetected symbol of fear too. How come suddenly I had a family I never knew of. A uncle, my mother's brother? Why? When I needed true family all I received was hatred and now that I had no wish of family, this man, who claimed to be my uncle, suddenly showed up.
Absurd.
"I do not care."
The oder man nodded his head, like he could feel my dilemma.
"I understand your situation, and I also understand why is it so difficult for you grab the truth." He walked towards the window, looking outside. The light of moon shimmered on his face. "I might not had made my presence known in your life earlier but trust me, I had been keeping an eye on you."
Keeping an eye on me?
Was he stalking me? Since when? And why didn't he not told me this earlier? Where was the catch?
Something was wrong. I could feel it.
With trembling hands I clutched the sides of my dress as I gulped nervously. This man knew more than he anticipated, more than he shows. He was upro something.
"Stalking me, you mean? However, why my mother never mentioned you?" I asked, when Edward suddenly get up. Panic danced in his eyes as he looked towards the older man, whose name I still didn't knew.
"Do you really think it's alright to tell her?" I could hear tremble in his voice. He was hiding something, and I was so determined to found out. Why was I being kept in dark about my life?
"Why would she mention me? I was the one who destroyed her happy life. Do you want to know a secret, medico?" I frowned and glared at him as he slowly turned around.
"Your real father. You want to know what happened to him? Why your mother never loved you?" His words were supposed to ignite anger in me, infact I felt nothing. The calm, and composed my mind was.
For the first time, I had my thoughts gathered.
My emotions confined.
I somehow knew where was this conversation going.
"You killed him?" It was more like a statement. I had never met my real father, yet I felt something clutching the sides of my heart. A father, I never had. I should mourn him, I should cry, I should grieve his loss. But...but I suddenly felt nothing.
A sinister smirk played on his lips as his grin widened.
"I did. I just couldn't let any commonor destroy the work of years. Alexa was supposed to marry a business partner, not a low-life bastard. I had everything planned, her wedding, the passports, the contract." Alexa Quintin, the name left a bitter taste. She had never loved me, though I never knew the reason, but I was sure this was somehow connected to my father's death.
"But she escaped." I found myself completing the side of story.
He scoffed.
"She did. She ruined everything. I lost two deals, a whole goddamn company! She thought she got away, living a perfect life she claimed to have but I couldn't just let her be!" Rage flowed as he gripped his hairs between his hands. His eyes moving here and there as he groaned.
"So, I killed him." His expressions changed faster than I could expect, making me startled as he laughed like a maniac throwing his head back. "But just like her mother, she was a slut, an attention-seeking whore! She found happiness in other man."
"And you decided to kill him too?" It was my turn to scoff. For me, my only parent was Brian Quintin, even he never gave me love, but he cared for me. He took me in when Alexa flew away. He provided me with shelter, food, took care of me like his own child.
He laughed.
"I didn't. I would never repeat same mistake twice."
Mistake?
"So, you killed her? Alexa, didn't you?"
I do not care.
I do not care.
I do not care.
I repeated words in my head like a mantra. Mt mother was dead to me the moment she abandoned me.
"I wish I did." His words hit harder, just like I was hit by a bulldozer. No. I was not going to get any sentiments, not even after knowing my mother was dead. Or she was murdered. The only thing that mattered to me was her hatred. She had shown me her loathe enough for me to reciprocate her feelings.
"I wish I could tell you the whole scenario but it's story for another time."
Not to mention the fact that he had been watching me since god knows how long. There were so many unanswered questions yet the only thing I seeked was truth.
The older man nodded towards Edward as he stepped forward. His face looked sullen. He seemed distressed.
"Show her the room. She'll be staying here for a long." I gulped. Of course! I knew it. There was something that he needed me for, otherwise why would he keep an eye on me.
"Do I need to be careful? Of you." I asked.
He smiled warmingly.
"I will not hurt you. You're family afterall."
Family.
How strange.
Then, I decided.
I would trust the timings of my fate. Everything happens for a reason, so be it. Maybe, just maybe it would happen for my own good.
"Anyways, it's too late for you to know the reality and too early to unravel the truth. You should rest. Tommorrow's going to be little chaotic for you." I locked eyes with him. Quiet shockingly, I saw grief in those hazels of his.
I nodded my head.
Just on cue, the door was opened and same man, who escorted me inside the building came in. Older man motioned towards me with his hand. My eyes not leaving him.
"Show her the room."
Just as I was about to follow him, my eyes met Edward's.
Tommorrow's definitely going to be a lot more hectic.
