Chapter 35 Same old pain

"Say hello to your fiance, medico."
Not once, nor twice, her heart skipped several beats. Fiance. The word was strange yet well-familiar to her. She was well aware of the meaning and the hidden truths this single word held. Edward indeed was her fiance, if things would have been perfect for her, she would have been a married woman. A small family would have been waiting for her when she returned from hospital.
But she couldn't. This man had installed fear with thousands insecurities inside her before she even realise the meaning of it. He hadn't only screwed her up mentally but her twisted emotions were on high alert also.
Edward grinned at her. The one that was supposed to make her feel butterflies but it was years ago, now she felt nothing but loathe for him.
"What the fuck made you think I will marry a psychopath like you? Don't you dare hold the reigns of my life again, Edward." She glared at him. Her fear slolwy turned into anger that she had kept inside her for years, now she was ready to let it lose. Hell, she had lost so much.
Edward's grin didn't take long to replaced with unamused, bitterly cold stare. Sadie resisted the urge to back away as he stepped up.
"Years, three fucking years, Sadie! You ran, you ran away from me. From your fucking fiance!"
Edward Williamson was not normal. One moment he was all 'till death do us apart'. Then there he was, 'I am the death'. It seemed as if he was not the same person who had made her feel safe in his arms every fucking night three years ago, but she was aware. The man that once chased her nightmares away, was now haunting her dreams.
Sadie winced, the sharpness of his words skeptically pierced her perceptions she had of him. How false they were. Then again, she was used to that. Not only she had witnessed his venomous words but she once was a victim of his abuse, the countless time he had beaten her, the scars over her body might had faded but ones over her soul were imprints of permanent ink. For a moment, she wanted to ask him why? A part of her felt like this all was too surreal. There was just no way this was the same Edward that proposed her for marriage in front of whole college.
She scoffed at his words. Her eyes blinded by all pictures of past she never wished to remember again. She could saw the beginning, how nastily it ended between them.
"I ran? Think again, Edward. You made me run. If it wasn't for your psychopathic behaviour, we would've been together now." But now it was too late. Both for her and him. Edward pondered over her words, then his eyes flickered.
"I-I didn't realised that. I was too rude to you. I-I didn't even knew what I was doing. I was going crazy and all I could think of was you, I just-I couldn't seem to let go of you. I-I did what I should have to keep you-"
"Keep me? KEEP ME?! I WASN'T YOUR FUCKING TOY, EDWARD! DO YOU FUCKING REALISE WHAT YOU DID THAT DAY?! HUH?! YOU FUCKING KILLED HER!" She screamed, the tears cascaded down her cheeks. She remembered everything, even though she didn't wanted to, but she did.
How could she forget.
Edward blinked his eyes at her words, a confused expression masked over his dark charcoal eyes as he tilted his head, as he couldn't understand the reason why she was crying. His eyes trailed over her face, he had missed her. The way her choclate orbs glistened with tears, strangely it amused him. He could saw pink tint all over her beautiful face, the way her lips quivered as sobs erupted through her.
She looked beautiful.
He wondered.
Sadie could feel, she had spend four years with him and she knew when and what creeps through his mind. She could fucking sense his amusement. He looked pleased.
"You have no empathy. You're so cruel, Edward. So cruel." She whispered into her teary stained face. Her hands trembled, the flimsy satin dress no longer could keep her from cold. It was too much for her to take in, in few hours.
"Why?" She mumbled. Her eyes finally found his and she was not startled to find him already gawking at her. "Why did you killed her?" She asked. She wished to know. She wanted to know.
Her eyes held his in accusing glare.
Edward sighed.
"She tried to take you away from me."
Her palms clenched into a fists as she gritted her teeth.
"She helped me."
Edward narrowed his eyes.
"She helped you in running away, Sadie. She separated us." He motioned between them as he looked straight into her eyes. "And she succeed."
She refused to, but tears couldn't stop. Jennie was a kind woman, the middle-aged widower lived alone besides her apartment. Sadie didn't desired for her to be at spot when Edward raised his hand on her, it was a beautiful evening they had spent together but he claimed that she was trying to run away when all Sadie did was spend five extra minutes in restroom.
She was scared. So agitated of the way his hand would ball into fists when she unknowingly made him angry. Afraid of the way he'd scream in ger face and call her a whore who demands attention. Frightened of the way he would grab her hips and force himself on her.
Jennie helped her getting passports and provide her few IDs she needed to flee. As a college student, Sadie could barely make anything from part-time job, but she was grateful of Jennie. Sadie was already in taxi when she looked back to saw Edward aiming his gun at poor woman.
Before Sadie could scream, the taxi was taking a turn and before she could blink, he had already shot her.
She closed her eyes.
She indeed was a sinner.
She knew what she was doing was dumb. She didn't even knew why she took Alejandro's threat seriously, this problem could have been solved if she simply muttered these words in Silvio's ears, but she decided to make it ten times worse. No one in this world was able to keep her safe except the man she brutually drugged in cold water.
It made her anxious.
She had to remember that she only came here that she didn't wanted Silvio or her father or Olivia getting hurt.
That led to one conclusion, she was meant for disaster. Her choices in life consisted of bad decisions and impossible mistakes. One standing just in front of her.
One mistake in particular led her to this path. And she'd have to pay. The mistake that made her flee from Europe to New-York. Made the notorious mafia boss infatuated with her. Forced her into a situation that made her hate herself.
"I-I am sorry, baby. I-I didn't knew what happened and next thing I knew, she was dead. I-I really tried not to pull the trigger b-but..." Sadie cautiously inhaled as he rubbed his face with both of his hands, she could saw remains of man she once feared. "You were getting away and I didn't knew how was I supposed to survive that."
Her thoughts stammered in the pit of her past.
Her mind and attention was so caught by Edward that she didn't realised Alejandro was still behind. She jumped startled as he placed his hand on her shoulder. With a squeak she looked over her shoulder.
"If this is fucking with your kind, I wonder what will happen to you in few minutes." His smirk send her off-guard.
"What do you mean?" She asked jerking her shoulder off his grip. He looked amusedly at her as she backed away.
"Don't you want to know why you are here? Aren't you thrilled, medico?" Alejandro tilted his head to side. Sadie cautiously stepped backward as she looked alarmed at him. Her eyes caught movement in her peripheral vision as she raised her hand.
"No! Stay the fuck away!" She yelled as Edward tried to grab her arm.
With unsteady breath she glued herself to farthest wall, her eyes deliberately moving between them. For once, she felt trapped.
"Tell me, sweetness. Why do you think you're here?" She gulped, her eyes glistened with unshed tears. She felt scared.
"Because of S-Silvio-"
Her eyes widened as Alejandro threw his head back as his laughter boomed through the walls of confined room. Her heart pounded against the cage of her chest drastically.
"Silvio? How naive of you to assume that." Sadie quirked a brow as he continued. "The boy is just an obstacle in my path, it would be just a matter of seconds when I'd be putting bullet into his head....just like I did to his father."
Sadie flinched internally.
Alejandro suddenly looked exceedingly sinister. She could comprehend the look of devil in his hazel eyes, the eyes that screamed murder, the destruction. She couldn't even picturise how agonised Silvio must had felt losing his parent. She suddenly wanted to be next to him, to assure him everything would be alright.
Alejandro chuckled lowering his head. The hair on back of her neck stood as he stared at her. There was that eerie feeling that clung to her, causing her heart to nearly beat out of the chest. Her fingers held onto her sides for stability as she held his gaze.
As if the situation wasn't getting any fearsome for her, Alejandro motioned Edward to get back. Edward sighed before walking to other side of room, slolwy, staring at her without a glimmer of nerves in his eyes, his steps slow, assured, determined.
Then a thought crept in her mind.
How did he even knew where she was?
She had escaped him for good. And as much as she was familiar, Edward hardly had any connections or money to held a investigation for her. Dread crept through her bones leaving her all muddled yet astounded as she glanced his way.
Alejandro noted the look of devastation on her face as he stepped forward blocking her view of Edward. Her eyes followed the movement and she swallowed hard.
"Do you want to know a little secret, medico?" Alejandro whispered as he leaned down making her clung onto wall. Her scared eyes widened as he raised his hand. She flinched as his cold fingers caressed her cheeks. His knuckles felt disgusting against her skin.
Alejandro smirked.
"I know you are all confused, you probably are wondering how in the hell does he know your location, isn't it?" As true his words sounded, she couldn't agree.
"Who do you think knew where you were? Who do you think knew about your escape plan three years ago?" Sadie couldn't help but ponder over his words. She hated to admit, but he was right. Except Brian, no one knew about the incident with Edward. She barely told Olivia. But this couldn't make any sense, Brian was in coma when she cried whole night clutching his hand and poured all her sorrows into her words.
Brian wasn't in his right senses when she said those words.
Her brows scrunched together.
Nothing made sense anymore.
Alejandro chuckled.
"So naive." He whispered roaming his eyes all over her confused face.
Then suddenly, like someone had electrolyte her, her head jerked up, her eyes widened.
No! No! T-This couldn't be.
Alejandro nodded his head. Clearing her doubts.
Her breathing quickened as he took deep breaths.
Only one person knew she had visited Brian that day, the man she hated with all her might. But she ignored him because she thought he probably didn't heard her mumbling when he came to pay a visit to his brother.
Alejandro chuckled lowering his head towards her ears.
"Who do you think?" He pushed.
She gulped as her eyes met his.
"G-Gerard."
"I just want what's best for you, and in order to know what's best, you need all the facts."
Sadie looked at him with devastation, her hands trembled violently as she prayed for lord to grace her with courage. She was so crippled to join any more puzzles of her past.
"What do you mean?" She was starting to get worried. The way he said it, sent her on edge. It sounded like usually how it did when he threatened her.
"I would be straight forward, Sadie. Your mother, she's dead." Sadie couldn't comprehend, all of this was so startling to her that she had to think twice what did that vile man meant.
Mother.
Her mother.
What could she expect? The woman had left her nineteen years ago, she already was dead to her. But hearing that she really was dead, somehow made her feel bad.
"Why are you telling me this? It isn't like you really care if my mother's alive or dead?" Sadie cautiously stepped back. Her eyes not leaving the sinister orbs of Alejandro.
Alejandro chuckled lowering his head.
"Why wouldn't I? She's my sister afterall."
