37. Rain

**Rain**

When I wake up is already morning. I am still between Jordan and Elton. I feel Jordan's back pressed to mine while Elton is facing me. The blanket still covers us, and Elton's left hand is on top of it. I move closer to Elton because, while I don't have any problems with Caleb touching me, I dislike when others do it. My fingers are close to Elton's hand, but I make sure I not to touch him.
For a second, I look at my manacles. They burn my skin, but I try to ignore the pain. The silver also blocks Safia, and I can't communicate with her. Or shift.
I look back at Elton and focus on his eyes because I want to see if he is awake. Sometimes, if I stare enough, I can see someone's eyes, nose, or cheeks. I know most people with face blindness can recognize parts of the face but can't see the face as a whole. For me, it is a little different because everything seems fuzzy.
I look at Elton's face for a long time, breathing in his brownies scent. I ignore Jordan's scent, which is sour, and fill my lungs with Elton's sweet smell.
Minutes pass as I keep staring at Elton's face as if I am some sort of a stalker, but when the morning light hits his face, and I see something brown, I smile. Maybe if I look at someone for some time, I can see the color of their eyes. In the former pack, I never looked at people's faces for more than a minute.
When I escape from here, and I am back home, I will try to see if I can see the eyes of other pack members.
"Hey," I say. "How are you feeling?" I ask him in a low tone, not wanting to wake up Jordan.
"Thirsty and sleepy," Elton says. "I always feel like this when vampires use me as a blood bag."
I know that Elton has been in the Vampire Palace, and I hate that he has to suffer again.
I move my hand closer to his. "Is it okay if I touch you?" Elton nods, and I squeeze his left hand. "We will find a way to leave this place. Once I find a way to remove my manacles, it should be easy."
I hope.
I never used my fire because I was afraid of what the pack would do to me if they found out about it.
The place inside me that holds my magic feels like a tunnel. Ever since I woke up in this basement, I entered that tunnel of fire, and I still haven't reached its end. I only hope that when I get free of the manacles and unleash my fire, I don't burn Jordan and Elton when I destroy this place, wherever we are.
"Even if you have the manacles or not, you are still an Omega, and an Alpha is much stronger than you," Elton says. "I think it should be better if we wait for help."
I don't think he means it in a bad way since Elton is also an Omega, but I am not going to sit down like a good little Omega and wait for a rescue party.
I try to look into his eyes, but I can't find the brown color anymore. It does not matter. "What if help never comes? I don't think Caleb knows where we are." My heart hurts when I say his name. "I am not just an Omega; I am Rain, and I refuse to sit on my ass, look pretty while Alpha Ben abuses you." Elton says nothing. "I should remind you that while you are also an Omega, you are a Theta Knight."
"More like Theta failure," Elton says, and I bite the interior of my cheek to stop myself from laughing.
"I think you are too harsh on yourself. I am sure that once you start training, you will be the best Theta Knight in the world," I say.
Elton chuckles. "I hope so. I mean, I am the only Theta Knight in the world, and if I end up as a failure, I am not sure what I will do with my life."
I smile. "Can I see your Theta Knight mark?" I am sure he also got a mark when we last touched.
Elton pulls his right hand out from the blanket and shows me his wrist. He has a Full Moon with an arrow on it. To the right and the left of the Full Moon are two Crescent Moons facing the Full Moon.
"That's beautiful," I say, and Elton shrugs. "I have the head of a wolf with an arrow on my right shoulderblade."
Elton chuckles. "A wolf and a moon, a classical. I guess we match." I grin. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," I say.
"I thought Caleb was your soulmate. Why does Alpha Ben insist on Jordan marking you?"
Elton, like the rest of the pack, doesn't know about my past with Jordan. I am sure Caleb hasn't told anyone about my connection with Jordan.
I feel Jordan tensing, and I know he is not sleeping. I wonder how long he has been awake and if he heard everything I talked about with Elton.
I sigh. "Jordan is my first soulmate. But things got complicated, and he rejected me. After that, I ended up in Caleb's pack."
"And you found out Caleb is your second soulmate," Elton says.
I am glad he is getting more comfortable with Caleb and me and stopped calling us Alpha and Luna.
"Yes. He is the best male I have ever met," I say.
Elton is quiet for a few minutes.
I wonder why Jordan keeps pretending he is sleeping. Even his scent changed, and I can smell his pain and sadness.
"Do you think Caleb is dead?" Elton finally asks me, and Jordan tenses once more.
Memories of my dreams with Caleb; while he might not be alright, I know he is holding up. He has to! As long as Raven and Caleb's souls haven't gone to the Tree of Life, I know they are not dead.
I shake my head. "He is going to be fine. You should rest more," I say, and Elton nods.
It doesn't take long for him to fall asleep. I listen to Elton's soft breathing when Jordan shifts on his back.
"You have a Theta Knight," Jordan says. "I don't know what to say."
I don't move from my position. "You don't have to say anything. I guess the Moon Goddess saw something in me after all. Maybe I am not cursed after all."
"Rain, I know I fucked up things with you, and I am trying to be a better male." He is quiet for a moment before adding. "I wish we could be friends."
"I don't know if I want you as a friend," I say. "Maybe in time, but not right now."
"I understand," Jordan says.
He touches my shoulder, and I move even closer to Elton. "Don't touch me!" I hiss.
"I am sorry. I won't touch you anymore," Jordan says and moves a little to the side, making room between him and me.
I turn on my back and look at the ceiling. "I know you are not trying to harm me, but sometimes, I need to be prepared when males touch me. There are times when the simple brush of a male against me sends me back to a dark place and remember the night the pack beat me."
I am not sure why I try to explain myself to Jordan. It's not like I owe him an explanation or something.
After Caleb took me to his pack, it took me weeks to let him close to me and start therapy. I don't remember when I got comfortable with Caleb touching me, but I knew he would not hurt me. Little by little, I got used to the males that live in the Pack House, and I don't mind them. But those that live in the houses and I don't know, I avoid touching.
"I am sorry I did this to you," Jordan says.
"I will be fine," I say, more for me than for Jordan. "Caleb is helping me heal."
"He is a good Alpha."
"The best," I say.
It doesn't take long for Alpha Ben and Paul to come to the basement. Alpha Ben takes me to the bathroom.
When I finish, I am taken back to the kitchen when I have to make food. After that, I return to Jordan and Elton. We eat in silence.
Jordan keeps to himself, but I spend time with Elton, and he tells me about the Vampire Palace and how his life has been there. He tells me that not all vampires are bad, and some are fighting, from the shadows, against the Queen.
Jordan starts exercising. Elton and I join him. The day slips by, and later afternoon Paul comes after me and takes me to the kitchen. I try not to roll my eyes or comment on anything and work in silence.
After dinner, Jordan and Elton are once more tortured.
I clean them, prepare to sleep, and curl next to Elton. It takes a long time to fall asleep because I am thinking of how to escape. Not knowing about Caleb drive me crazy.
I dream of Caleb and the island. We explore the jungle. We talk about everything and anything. But when morning comes, I am back in the basement. It is the last night I dream of him.
Days pass by, and Alpha Ben becomes more aggressive. Jordan barely can move, and Elton flinches whenever he hears the door. While they don't harm me, I get depressed with each passing moment.
"I can't do this anymore," I finally snap one night, after Alpha Ben, Paul, and the vampire leave. "If they come here once more and torture you, I will go crazy."
Elton is shivering under the blanket and says nothing. He lost hope of getting out here days ago.
"I don't know what to do," Jordan says in a weak tone.
I sit next to Elton and pat his head. "I will attack Paul!" I say and show Jordan my hand. I felt my nails grow, and I am sure I can use them during a fight.
Loud noises come from upstairs, and Jordan looks at me. We listen for minutes while the fight gets more intense. Even Elton stops shivering and sits.
"What do you think is going on?" Jordan finally asks.
"I don't know," I say.
Just like it started, the noises come to a halt. The door opens, and I sniff the air.
"Vampires!" Elton hisses, and I move in front of him.
