81. Rain

*Red gets injured pretty badly in this chapter.*

**Rain**

Hearing Sky scream like that broke my heart. I never thought I could love her so fiercely. My magic swirls inside me, wanting to burn anyone who dared to touch my sweet daughter. An ice lance appears in front of Caleb while fire arrows float around me, and I send them directly at that fucking bitch who is still biting Sky's shoulder. The fucking bitch has the audacity to throw Sky from her lap and jump from the throne just before the ice lance and the fire arrows reach her. Being made by a god, a magic shield appears around the throne, protecting it.

I could care less about the fucking throne; it can burn for all I care. My eyes are on Sky. Luckily she didn't get hurt and crawls away from the thrones, trying to get to us. The leech bitch tries to grab Sky while Caleb and I keep sending attack after attack in the hopes we can kill her or at least harm her enough to stop her. We slowly inch towards the dais while we keep attacking that vampire bitch with our powers, but she moves fast and avoids getting hit. My Theta Knights and Conon follow me while Jeremy seems frozen, his eyes never leaving Sarah.

When the Leech Queen grabs Sky by her leg and drags her back, Sky turns around and uses her magic. I've never seen her use her Water before, and while it's not as strong as my Fire or Caleb's Ice, it is strong enough for her to free herself from the Leech Bitch.

I hope we get to Sky before that fucking Queen grabs her again. Sky keeps using her magic while she gets away from the Leech Queen.

The Demon King kills the last Elder before using his sword to stop our magic from reaching the Vampire Queen. Sky reaches the bottom of the dais, gets up, and is about to run when the Demon King grabs her by her hoodie, and I feel as if I can't breathe. Sky looks at Caleb and me begging us with her eyes to help her.

"If you want the little pup to live, give me the female!" the Demon King tells Caleb as he lifts Sky from the floor and puts his sword at her neck. "Take one more step, and I will kill the pup!" he snarls, and we try to get to Sky.

Caleb and I stop in our tracks, afraid he will harm our daughter.

The vampires watch the females and pups like hyenas, and I am relieved they don't try to attack them. They are probably waiting until I am dead to start the festivities. Too bad I am about to ruin their plans.

Tatiana and Naomi move away from the Demon King and start working on opening the portal, and I know we have to buy them time. Some vampires try to get close to them, but Tatiana moves her fingers, and the vampires stop walking. The Demon King has his back to the witches and is unaware of what they are doing, but I am afraid the Leech Queen will notice. For the moment, she is busy glaring at me with her ruby eyes full of poison. I smirk at her, letting her know I am not afraid of her and that I will make her pay for what she did to Caleb. Her Knights are not with her, and I hope they won't barge in together with warriors that fight for the Demon King.

"I will come to you if you promise to let her go," I say to the Demon King and start walking towards him.

Caleb grabs my hand. "Red, no!" Caleb growls at me. He is so scared it vibrates through our bond.

Kevin turns and looks at me, and it is the first time I notice his eyes—green like mine. There is sadness and also fear in them. "Rain!" he says, and I can hear his voice cracking. I remember what Hannah told me, and I hope for his sake he does not have any more feelings for me.

"If something happens to Sky, I will never forgive myself. Besides, I have my magic to protect me!" I say before looking at the Demon King. "Let the pup go, and I will come to you!"

"Do you think I am stupid?" he snarls. "The moment you are in front of me, I will let the pup go!"

I try to get to the Demon King, but Caleb doesn't let go of me. The spell Naomi cast on me is still working, and I can see tears running down Caleb's face. "Red, please!"

I turn to my left and stand in front of Caleb. "Trust me!" I say before kissing him and grabbing the ash wood dagger I gave him for Christmas. I hide it in my clothes, hoping no one saw what I just did.

Before anyone can stop me, I rush to the dais while I reach for my Fire. I might not be able to kill the Demon King on my own, but if Caleb helps me with his Ice, between the two of us, we can defeat him. I only need to distract him until Tatiana and Naomi open the portal. I am not sure how they will do it since the Queen of the Black witches used the blood of an Angel, fae, a dragon shifter, and a werewolf to open the portal. There are plenty of werewolves in the Golden Room, but the other warriors remained with the Angels, helping them save what is left of their city.

Tatiana finishes drawing the portal while Naomi makes sure no one gets close to them. I am afraid the Leech Bitch will notice what the witches are doing, but she is too absorbed by what the Demon King is doing to see anything else.

I finally make it to where the Demon King is. "Let go of the pup!" I say to him and hold my breath.

He hesitates, and I am afraid he won't let Sky go, but to my relief, he sets her down. "Run to your father!" I say to Sky before the Demon King grabs me by my neck and squeezes hard.

"Red!" Caleb yells.

The fucking Leech Queen starts laughing and tries to get close to me, but Elton starts releasing arrows in her direction, keeping her occupied.

I think Caleb is trying to get to me because the Demon King says, "Stay where you are, or I will break her neck!"

He keeps squeezing my neck, and I grab his wrists and release my magic. He grunts with pain but does not let go of me, and black spots appear in front of my eyes. My Fire burns harder. Suddenly, ice knives attack him, and between my magic and that of Caleb, the Demon King finally lets go of me. I fall on my ass and start coughing. The Demon King tries to grab me again, but a wall of fire and ice appears between him and me, preventing him from touching me. My eyes go to Tatiana, and I see her taking out four vials from her pocket. A red liquid is in them, and I suspect it is blood. She looks at me and jerks her head, letting me know I need to get close to her. The Demon King finally realizes what Tatiana is doing and roars enraged and tries to stop her, but he can't get past the wall Caleb and I created.

My Theta Knights and Conon rush to attack the Demon King while Caleb runs to me. I make it to Tatiana, take out the dagger, cut my palm, and let my blood fall on the portal she drew on the floor. I shove the dagger in my front pocket.

The Leech Queen screeches and tries to attack me, but Caleb attacks her with an ice sword. He stabs her in the stomach, and she falls to the floor. He stabs her a few more times until she stops moving before attacking the Demon King. Fireballs appear in my hands, and I throw them at the Demon King.

Conon and Elton are both injured, and Naomi hurries to heal them while Katherine and Kevin keep fighting. Around us, chaos erupts as the vampires start attacking the females and the pups. Jeremy jumps to protect them. A few females shift and fight the vampires with their claws and fangs. Conon shifts, and Taos is almost as big as Raven. Bones crack under his strong jaw. Elton shoots arrows, killing any vampire who dares to get close to Viki and Sarah.

Tatiana opens the vials and lets the blood fall on the portal, and she activates it.

The Demon King tries to run away, but Caleb and I get in front of him and keep attacking him with our magic. He roars and lifts his sword, trying to kill Caleb, but Kevin uses his trident to block the blade. Katherine swings her scythe to knock the sword from the Demon King's hand.

Kevin's weapon gives me an idea, and I make a fire trident and use it to stab the Demon King. Kevin looks at me and smiles before turning his attention back to the Demon King. Caleb also makes a trident using his magic, and we start pushing the Demon King toward the portal.

The Demon King growls and swings his fists, trying to hit either Caleb or me, but we are out of his reach. We keep stabbing him with the tridents, directing him to the portal. When he tries to run right or left, we block his path with more tridents and keep pushing him to where Tatiana is.

I use as much magic as I can, and Caleb does the same, and we stab him so hard the tridents get stuck between his ribs. He stumbles backward, and his eyes widen with shock, realizing he is falling through the portal.

When he disappears into the black hole, I stop moving and stare at the portal, afraid the Demon King will jump out of it. But seconds pass, and nothing happens.

"We did it!" Caleb says, not quite believing we sent our worst nightmare back to where he belongs.

I hug Caleb tight while Tatiana prepares to close the portal. A few vampires are still alive, and Caleb rushes to kill them and to check if the females and the pups are well. Naomi goes to heal anyone who might have been injured while Katherine runs to Conon.

Tristan and his vampire squad enter the Golden Room holding the heads of the Leech Queen's knights in their hands. Emma is in the middle of the females, and Tristan tosses the head he is holding aside before going to her. Kevin walks over to Zeke and Xenos.

I look around, trying to locate Sky, when someone grabs me by my hair and drags me toward the portal. It is still open; Tatiana is working hard to close it.

"I will have my revenge, one way or another," the Leech Queen hisses in my ear and sinks her fangs into my neck and tears out some flesh before she bites me again.

Safia starts to heal me.

I use my magic to fight her off me, take the dagger out of my pocket and stab her thigh. She grabs the ash dagger from me and attacks my stomach with it.

How ironic.

I let out a loud scream, and my blood and that of my baby fall on the drawing of the portal, and smoke starts coming out of it. Caleb yells something, but I can't hear him. Tears roll down my cheeks as I feel my baby's life slipping away.

Caleb attacks the Leech Queen with his Ice, and she pushes me inside the portal right before it closes in front of me.

And darkness swallows me.
