71. Rain

**Rain**

Jordan falls to the ground, blood coming out of his back. He groans in pain, and I let out a breath of relief, knowing he is still alive, but if he does not receive help fast, he will die. The Demon King is about to strike Jordan again, and I jump to my feet. Ignoring my throbbing shoulder and the bolt still stuck in my right thigh, I let my Fire free, hitting the Demon King in the chest. He takes one step backward. “Your efforts are in vain, female!” he growls, his voice coated with hate. “I have already won this fight!”

I shake my head and grit my teeth. “As long as I am still breathing, I will keep fighting!” My heart beats furiously, adrenaline rushing through my body as I keep using my magic on him. A rational part of me tells me I should run, run, run, but I am not Rain Blackwater anymore. Everything that has happened to me in the past four months and a half has shaped me into a new person. I am Rain Black, soulmate of Caleb Black, mother to Sky and the tiny life growing inside me, and I refuse to let the Demon King win today.

Xenos and Tristan join the fight, attacking the Demon King with their swords, and I am careful not to hit the vampires with my magic. The Demon King roars and swings his sword fast, almost decapitating Tristan.

Xenos goes for the Demon King’s legs, cutting his tendons. To my shock, the Demon King is still standing. He is about to hit Xenos when a portal opens, and I let out a cry of frustration. The Demon King is a strong opponent; if more enemies join the fight, I am not sure what will happen. Or if we will make it out alive.

Zeke rips out his t-shirt, wraps it around his right arm, or what is left of it, grabs his sword with his left one, and stands. Kale also rises from the ground, barring his canines.

About twenty females wearing strange clothes get out of the portal, and my legs buckle when I catch the scent of Tatiana and of other witches. Using their magic, they relentlessly attack the Demon King.

I stop using my Fire and kneel next to Jordan. The snow around him has turned red, and for a moment, I am afraid he is dead, but when his fingers twitch, I know he is still alive. I gently take his left hand into my mine. Jordan groans, and I squeeze his hand. “Don’t you dare die!” I hiss, and he lets out a small chuckle.

The witches keep fighting the Demon King, and the vampires help them. I brush a few strands of hair from Jordan’s face. “Rain,” Jordan speaks, his voice so weak it scares me. “I am sorry for not believing you. It is hard to admit this, but Caleb would have believed you. He is a better male than I will ever be.”

Tears roll down my face. “I forgive you! Just live! Help is on the way!” I beg him. Jordan is quiet for a few heartbeats. I am starting to believe he lost consciousness because of all the blood loss when I feel his scent changing, and I know Titan took over.

“I am sorry for not protecting you from Jordan,” Titan says, squeezing my hand. “If I would have done my duty...” His scent is filled with regret.

“All is forgiven,” I tell Titan the truth. Safia agrees with me

I know Titan suffers losing Safia, but after what Jordan did to me, I couldn’t accept him back into my life. Jordan not only broke my trust, but he hurt me so badly that I am still healing, and returning to his pack would have meant living in fear all the time.

Titan’s grip on my hand turns light, and when I squeeze his hand, he doesn’t do the same. “Titan?” I ask, but he doesn’t reply. “Titan!” I almost shout, and before I let the panic cloud me, I check to see if he is still breathing. To my relief, he still does, but how much longer?

“Red! Red!” I hear Caleb’s panicked voice coming from close by, and I try to stand, but a sharp pain in my right leg tells me I still have the silver bolt stuck in it. I inhale deeply, keep the air in, grab the bolt and pull it out. It is only now that I realize this bolt is not made from silver. That’s why I could use my magic.

“Caleb!” I scream and stand. To my relief, my voice sounds steady, even if I feel like crying. Or screaming.

Caleb appears from behind the trees. Holgan and Jeremy are next to him while the rest of the Enforcers and other pack members in their wolf form are behind him, and they rush to help the witches. I wipe my face clean. Caleb runs to me and hugs me tight. I wrap my arms around his waist and bury my face in his chest. “Red! Thank the Gods you are alive!” Caleb shakes violently and kisses the top of my head. “When I felt you were getting hurt and you weren’t in our room...” he stops speaking and breathes hard. He pulls back, and with trembling fingers, he touches my stomach, and I nod, letting him know the baby is fine. I know how much Caleb suffered at the idea of not being able to have babies with me, and if I lose this baby, I know Caleb would be devastated. Caleb exhales loudly and pulls me back into another hug. “I am never letting you out of my sight ever again!” he vows, and I nod in his chest. “Is Jordan—?” asks Caleb, and I grip his jacket hard before letting go so I can look at Titan.

“He needs help!” I say to Caleb.

I feel Caleb’s gaze on me before he grabs my face between his palms—he is still trembling. “So do you!”

A portal opens next to the Demon King, and he disappears inside it, the portal closing quickly behind him. A witch rushes to Titan and starts working her healing magic on him, while two more go to assist Kale and Zeke. Holgan comes to help the witch who is healing Kale. He removes the bolts from Kale’s legs so the witch can work her magic on him.

The remaining witches and the Enforcers led by Jeremy inspect the forest for survivors or any enemies left while Tatiana comes to check up on me. “Let me heal your wounds.”

“First Titan!” I say. “Once he is safe, you can heal me!”

Caleb grits his teeth. “Red, you are bleeding! Let Tatiana heal you. A witch is already working on Jordan!”

“Rain, stop being stubborn!” Tatiana scolds me before healing me. “Now, that didn’t take that long, did it?” she asks a few minutes later.

Caleb removes his jacket and puts it over my shoulders while Tatiana joins the witch who is healing Titan. Hugging Caleb tight, I watch how the witches work on Titan. I know Caleb is as worried for Jordan as I am. While my soulmate has said nothing, I think Caleb and Jordan are starting to get on better terms. It will probably take Caleb a long time to forgive Jordan for what he did to me, but I hope they will be friends one day. I don’t think Jordan is a bad male, but growing up with parents like Alpha Ben and Luna Silvia led him to believe he was entitled to many things. Since he found me in Caleb’s pack, I have seen how he is trying to change for the better, and I want to see how he will be in a few years. With the right guidance, I know Jordan will be a good Alpha. If he finds his second chance soulmate, he will make her very happy.

Kale is already better, and he shifts back to his human form. The witch who healed him takes out a space blanket from her bag. Zeke is another story, and I’m sorry he lost his right arm.

Tatiana stands. “We healed Jordan’s wounds, but the Demon King’s sword is made from silver...”

I bit my lip. “But he will live?” I ask.

“He will, but Reyes needs to see him. My sisters and I will open a portal to take us directly to the clinic,” Tatiana says before turning on her heels and going to a group of four witches working on opening the portal. I let out a breath of relief, knowing Jordan would live.

The Enforcers and the witches finish searching the forest and checking the humans—they are all dead. When the portal is opened, Enforcers lift Jordan and get him through it. Holgan helps Kevin while Tristan and Xenos are in charge of Zeke.

Caleb lifts me in his arms, takes me to the portal, and we walk through. Moments later, we are in front of the clinic. Caleb takes me inside to the ER. Rae Ann is checking Zeke’s arm, and Xenos is with him, but I don’t see Tristan. He probably went to Emma.

I look around, hoping to see Jordan and Reyes, but there’s no trace of them. Kevin sits on a bed, waiting for his turn. He still has the space blanket around him.

Caleb puts me on the bed next to Kevin. “What about Jordan?” I ask Kevin.

“Reyes is taking an X-ray of his back,” Kevin replies. “I am worried about him,” he adds a moment later.

“Tatiana healed his back; I am sure he will be fine,” Caleb says.

We fall silent as we wait for Rae Ann to finish checking Zeke and for Reyes and tell us something about Jordan. When Rae Ann comes to Kevin and me, we ask her about Jordan, but she is as clueless as we are and tells us to wait. She examines us, and to Caleb’s relief, I am fine. So is Kevin.

Ten minutes later, Hannah and Holgan bring clothes for Kevin. While he goes to get dressed, Tatiana comes to talk to Caleb and me. “My witches and I put a magic barrier around the pack. The Demon King won’t be able to enter, but if he brings black witches with him, they can break the spell. Now that the Demon King has learned about Rain and that her blood is the key to opening a portal to his kingdom, he won’t stop until he kills Rain.”

Caleb clenches his jaw. “I will send Red to the Emerald Realm,” he says. “She will be safe there.”

I am about to protest, but Tatiana talks first, “You are the only one that can keep Rain safe. Sending her away won’t solve anything. The Demon King might not find her there, but did you stop to think about how the separation will affect both of you? Bonded soulmates suffer greatly when they are not together.”

“What am I supposed to do then?” Caleb asks furiously.

“As I said, Rain is safe with you! You trusted me when I told you to keep Jordan in the pack because he will save Rain’s life. He did today! Rain would not be alive right now if not for Jordan and Zeke!”

“Goddamnit, Tatiana!” Caleb growls.

Kevin returns from the bathroom wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

Reyes comes into the ER.

“How is Jordan?” Kevin and I ask at the same time.

“I am afraid I have to give you bad news.” My heart pounds hard as I wait for Reyes’ next words. “Jordan won’t be able to walk anymore.”

Oh no!

*I am late with the chapter, I know! My fault. Starting Monday I will try to update daily until I finish R&A!*
