Chapter 15
So she approached Nico and asked about the problem. As she got closer, she tapped his shoulder.
"What's the matter?" she asked.
But he didn't even respond to her question.
"All I was thinking was you wouldn't come?" Nico asked.
"How come you said that?"
"It's nothing; from what I've seen, those who marry no longer participate in gang gimmicks; if allowed, their husbands will be tails," Nico responded.
"My husband isn't strict, so it's fine; I can go wherever the group goes," she replied.
"I see."
"How about you? Why don't you join them? You're alone here," she suggested.
"I'm fine, Elijah; I'm just going through a phase right now," Nico said, turning away.
"How about that?"
"Personal matters."
Elijah turned to their table and noticed Kara squirming in her seat. She frowned as she observed the two of them and Nico's behavior. What's the issue with these two?
"What happened? Nico, you're not talking to me properly, it's as if you didn't hear me," she says.
"All right, fine. I'm sorry. I was desperate and hurt," Nico responded.
"How come?"
"I courted Kara, but she didn't give me a chance," Nico said, making Elijah smile.
"When else?" she asked.
"Last month, but she rejected me; I don't know why, but I'm leaving," Nico said as if he was losing hope.
"Are you a real man?"
"Huh?"
Elijah chuckles.
"I had no idea you were such a coward around women."
"I don't know what to do, Elijah, because Kara is a hard-hearted woman," Nico said.
"I tried to talk to her. I'll see if I can help you, but for now, join them so you don't think about your problem. I'll be out in a moment," she said as she kissed Nico goodbye.
She went outside to see if Harris had picked her up, but there was no sign of him. He didn't even bother calling her. She has a lot of negative thoughts, but she hopes nothing is wrong. She was about to go back inside when she noticed Kara leaning against the gate post.
"How long have you been there?" she asked.
"Just now," Kara said.
"Do you intend to return home?" Kara asked.
"Not yet. I just checked to see if Harris picked up, but he didn't, and neither did he who called me." Elijah's sad response.
Kara gave her a raised brow.
"Call him. He doesn't always make a way for him to contact you," Kara said.
Elijah exhaled a sigh. But she remembered what she and Nico had discussed earlier. So she examined Kara, the reason for her swallowing.
"What's the deal with your stares, Elijah?" Kara asked.
"Have you always considered me your best friend?" she asked.
"Of course," I say, "what kind of question is that?"
"I see, but why did you keep Nico's courtship from me?"
Kara stared at her with wide eyes.
"What is that man saying to you?" Kara inquired.
"Do I have to say it again? I'd like to know why you didn't respond to him."
"Why would I do something like that?"
"Because he's serious about you," she asked.
"How come you seem so certain?" Kara inquired.
"Because I know his desire to woo you is genuine," he explained.
"I don't like him because he was your ex," Kara responded.
"What? That's the only reason you have? Our relationship is over; it's just a closed book for us; can't you see we're still friends?" she responded.
"Whatever. Let's go. I'll drive you to your house," Kara said.
Elijah simply sighed. It's difficult to persuade Kara, so she'll apologize to Nico now.
"Come on, Elijah," Kara says.
She approached the car, opened the door, and got inside.
"Have you said goodbye to everyone?" she asked.
"Yes."
Kara buckled her seatbelt and began driving. Earlier, Elijah was waiting for her phone to ring, but her husband never called.
She overheard Kara talking on the phone with one hand on the steering wheel.
"Your husband can't be reached, Elijah; just wait for him to return home," Kara explained.
Elijah laughed. Her best friend is Kara. It was far too preoccupied with how she felt.
"Thank you very much, Kara."
They arrived at her house half an hour later. Outside their house, she couldn't even see Harris' car. She exited the vehicle.
"Thank you very much, Kara," she said.
As she walked away, she waved to Kara. She then entered the house. But she couldn't see Harris's shadow. What could have become of that man? She was already concerned that something bad had happened to him. She entered through the front door. She took a seat on the sofa for a few moments. The peace of the house's interior. Her chest tightened with rage. Harris only didn't call her for an emergency job for the time being.
She'll call it first before getting dressed. She'd call and assume it was just someone in the office working late. On the other end of the line, someone answered in less than a minute. Her brow furrowed as the woman's voice spoke.
"Hello, who is this?" the woman asked.
She responded, "I'm looking for Harris Blake."
"Ah, he's in the bathroom. We do a lot, so he took a shower. What do you need from him?"
Many negative thoughts raced through her mind. It's becoming jumbled. Jealousy and rage.
She didn't want to think ill of her husband, but when she heard what the woman said today, her world seemed to come crashing down around her.
"I'm his cousin; please inform him; he should open his phone; I'll call later," Elijah said.
She sat down slowly after he hung up the phone. She is always aware that her husband is never unfaithful to her. She sincerely hopes not. So she entered the room and dressed.
When Harris left the company, he was nervous. He knew Elijah would be furious because he had just returned home late, and to make matters worse, he couldn't call her because he had forgotten his charger and his phone had a low battery. He is aware that Elijah is a compassionate woman.
They hadn't even fought in their first year of marriage, but he knew a big fight was on the way. He jumped into his car and drove quickly.
He was outside the gate half an hour later. He slowly opened the gate and the car door. He could tell his wife hadn't slept because the entire house was bright. Harris was so nervous that his heart felt like it was about to burst. He slowly pushed open the front door. Harris laughed to himself because he was a thief in his own house. He entered the house slowly but stopped when he noticed Elijah's white legs in his path.
He became nervous and looked at her, but Harris gaped as Elijah smiled back. There was no trace of rage. This was not the reaction he had anticipated. He was afraid she'd go insane and scold him for coming home early in the morning without warning that they'd be working overtime.
Elijah approached him and gave him a passionate kiss on the lips.
"Sweetheart, let us go inside," she said to him. And touched his back.
Harris was unable to speak due to his wife's attitude. Wouldn't she even question why he just returned home late?
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. We worked overtime at the office, and I forgot to bring my charger, which is why I didn't call you," he explained.
"Sssh," she said, covering his mouth with her hand.
"You should rest for now, and sleep, I know you're tired," she advises.
They've already entered the room. Elijah took off his shoes and socks. Pants and clothing are included. She dressed him in a t-shirt and pajama pants. Then, for a brief moment, let it come out first. She was brought water and given to him when she returned.
"Did you eat?"
"Yeah, I'm full," he replied.
"Good."
She leaned over him and then covered herself with a blanket. Harris felt sorry for Elijah. She didn't sleep for sure waiting for him. After he got dressed, he also lay down and closed his eyes.
The next morning Elijah got up early. And the one next to her is still snoring. She was angry and disgusted with Harris but she preferred to smile at him when he entered the front door. She would have planned to beat him with a broom but it would be harder if he just rushed in and got angry without even asking. She knows many relationships and families are destroyed by delusion. She got out of bed and left the room. She also heard a doorbell. It was too early but someone had already visited their house. She walks to the gate and opens it. She saw the smiling face of her nanny.
"It's you, nanny. Come in first. The morning you visit." she says.
"Yes, but I'm not going in. I'll just deliver it to you, my niece Lucy. It's like you have someone here while your husband is in the office."
"Thank you."
After her nanny left, she invited Lucy into the house. She was happy because it came. There will be something left in their house when she makes her plan to follow Harris. After she heard that woman's voice.
"Let's go to the kitchen, Lucy. I would have ordered you to cook. Maybe the nanny told you that I don't know how to cook." she says.
Lucy nodded, and they entered the kitchen together. She pointed to all the utensil containers as well as the ones to be used for cooking. She left Lucy alone in the kitchen and went inside the guest room's bathroom.
Harris awoke from his sleep because he was thirsty. He never saw Elijah again when he looked to the other side. Perhaps she was the first to awaken. He got out of bed and exited the room. He was walking into the kitchen when she came to a halt because someone had broken into their home. Wearing a red apron indicates that are too focused on cooking. A girl smiled as she observed his habit.
"Good morning, sir. My name is Lucy, and I'm the new one you can see here at home," said the woman.
His forehead furrowed. Elijah didn't even mention to him that she needed another roommate to do the housework. Does she have plans to work in her daddy’s company? The thirst Harris was feeling was gone. Lucy looked at him.
"Do you need anything, sir?"
"Please bring me a glass of water," he said.
He drank the water Lucy had given him a minute later. When his wife entered the kitchen, he smelled the perfume. She approached him, fresh from the shower, and kissed him on the lips.
"Lucy and you, sweetheart met," she says.
"Yes."
Lucy had already placed the food she had prepared on the table, so the two of us sat at the same time.
"Why didn't you tell me you were taking a roommate here at home?" he asked.
"Nanny Mathilde gave Lucy to me because she is her niece and needs a job," Elijah explained.
"But ..."
"Enough. Lucy might think we don't want her that we still have to argue over such a small thing." Elijah says.
He had no choice but to remain silent, even though he still had a lot to say. When he looked at Lucy, she was not even offended, but her smile was sweet. They were finished eating in a matter of minutes. As a result, he went inside the room and took a bath. He is about to enter the office. But if Elijah didn't want to, he wouldn't come in, but she didn't even say anything. Elijah entered the room a few minutes later. And he was already dressed for the office. She retired his tie.
"Are you coming into the office?" she asked.
"Yes, but if you don't want to, I'm just here at home so I can repay my mistakes," he said.
"I'm fine; you've come in to finish your work piles."
He gave a nod. And they exited the house together. Before getting into the car, Elijah kissed him on the lips.
Elijah entered the house after Harris had left. She noticed Lucy sitting on the couch.
"I've finished all of the kitchen chores, Ma'am."
"All right, come on, we're going to the city, and I'll take you."
"That's fine."
They walked out of the house a few minutes later. And they arrived in the city. Elijah pulled over to the side of the road, and Lucy and I got out together. She immediately pulled it into the wig section upon entering the mall.
