Chapter 17

"All right, Daddy, we'll pay you a visit one of these days," Harris said.

"Okay."

Harris reclined in his swivel chair. He was thinking a lot about the two of them and Elijah. He never asked if she still loved him. But what it showed him was too obvious. She endures learning to cook even though it is always sloppy. Maybe if he had the time, he'd take it out so he wouldn't get bored inside their house.

Elijah was relieved because she already had an ally within the organization. She was aware that she would still be handcuffed just in case. Mrs. Acosta stated that she can begin the following day. So she's now in a fast food restaurant.
We're just hanging out. Maybe she'll ask Lucy to teach her to cook tonight so she can bring Harris something every day at work. Her generosity was kept hidden.

Her phone began to ring. Because she saw Kara calling, she answered.
"How are you, Kara?"
"Elijah, where are you?" Kara asked on the other end of the line, her voice hoarse from a long cry.

"I'm here in town; do you need anything from me?" she asked.

"Nothing, I'm just curious."

"Are you crying?" she asked once more.

"Nothing, I just woke up, and this is my voice."

"That's fine."

She hung up the phone. But when Liza called, she hadn't put her phone in her sling bag. As a result, she responded quickly.

"Why, Liza? What's going on? You're all calling me?" she inquired over the phone.

"Nico was apprehended. A woman cornered him, and a woman is pregnant," Liza responded.

"What?"

Elijah now understands why Kara is crying when she calls her.

"How did that happen? He courted Kara." She asked.

"Yeah, we all know that; he objected because he had never slept with that woman," Liza said.

"How did she become pregnant?"

"I'm not sure, Elijah. Nico's mind is in turmoil right now, and he doesn't want to be tied to that woman."

"OK, I'll see what I can do."

"That's fine."

Elijah reclined in her chair. So Kara demonstrates her concern for Nico even now. She didn't like him at first because she was confused but now knowing that Nico is going to marry someone she felt like she was going to burst into tears, and she was crying too much now. She stood up and walked away from the food chain. She intends to leave today. She will try to assist them because they are dear friends to her. She was not going to let Kara get hurt. There are many problems and cheaters in this world, so they should be killed right now. She laughs in her mind.

She called Kara once more.

"Hello, Kara, how are you?" she asked.

"In the house."

"Come here to a lawyer's office on thirty streets near the mall," she says.

"Why?"

"Don't ask too many questions, Kara; just come here and I'll tell you something," she said when she hung up the phone.

She sat and waited for Kara.  She had previously informed Attorney Lalaine of her intentions. She noticed Kara getting out of the car while wearing sunglasses.  She came up to me.

"Won't you tell me why you're crying, or I'll tell you?"

"I used to be in denial, Elijah, but when I found out he got another woman pregnant, I became terrified, and I realized I wanted him."

"All right, let's go."

Kara asked, "What are we going to do here?"

"You'll discover it later."
We arrived at Lalaine's office. Elijah knocked, and the door opened, allowing the two of them to enter. Kara and I took a seat.
"She's the one I'm talking about," Elijah explained to Kara.

But Kara just stared at them, as if bored.

"Do you know why you're here?" Lalaine asked of Kara.

"I have no idea," Kara admitted.

"You can remove your shades to see the entire area. Crying is normal. Isn't there anyone who doesn't cry? I'm sure there are many, so it's fine," Lalaine said.

Kara has no choice but to remove her sunglasses. I could see the swelling in her eyes. It bowed because she realized it was embarrassing for her.

"Elijah texted me earlier asking for a favor; she told me to make you a fake marriage contract so you can use it as a shield to prevent the marriage of the man you love from continuing," Lalaine explained to Kara.

Kara gaped as she looked at her.

"Elijah... "

"Hear me out, Kara. Nico admits to everyone and the guys that they have no relationship with that woman, so she can't get pregnant by him," she says.

"What if it's his child?"

"Nico is not an irresponsible man, so he can't run if he's the father of that unborn child. Liza texted me that their parents talked tonight, so just do your part. After we're here, we'll do something else," she says.
"Aren't we going to get caught?" Kara wonders.

"You may not do it, but you will suffer for the rest of your life," Lalaine explained. "We know that when the two of them marry, you have no hope unless you want to be a sidekick or a mistress."

"No way!" exclaimed Kara.

"So, how do you feel about it? Take it or leave it?"

"Alright."

"All right, we only need to threaten you once, so let's get out of here," Lalaine said.

Elijah knew it was part of their plan. Kara read the document after signing it.

Kara asked, "How is Nico's signature?"

"I'll sign because I know how to imitate his signature," Elijah said.

"I'm afraid we're going to do this, Elijah, and we might end up in jail," Kara said.

"I can handle Kara. We can't register it. I know if we do this, both of you will be happy, and you won't cry like that," Lalaine responded.

"Just relax, Kara. If I were still single, I'd do it, but I can't because I'm married, and I'm sure daddy and my husband will be involved," she laughed.

Kara simply nodded. They returned to Liza's house after visiting Lalaine's office. When they arrive, she will be waiting outside the gate.
"Why are you two together? Are you all right, Kara?" Liza inquired.
"Not at all."

"Of course. Who would be okay if you went astray but others became pregnant, so let's go inside."

We all went inside at the same time. They sat on the couch.

"What are those, and why are there clothes all over?" Kara asked.

"That will be used later in the show," Elijah replied.

"Show?"

"Let's break down the gate; we won't go to war unless we have a lot of ammunition," she replied.

"What if we get knocked down and they don't believe what we're going to show?" Kara wondered, clearly concerned about their strategy.

"I'll be the one to speak, Kara because, in your current state, you know you're going to ruin us all," she joked.

Kara reclined on the couch.

"So, what's the plan? Why did you prepare clothes for me?" Liza inquired.

"With these documents, we're going to pretend Kara is pregnant," she says.

Liza took up the document and began reading.

"Where did the marriage contract come from?"

"We got there with the help of my lawyer friend," Elijah replied.

Liza grinned.

"I'm not aware that you have such a plan; you're fantastic, Elijah," Liza said.

"It's only once a woman love, so let's do it completely," she says, adding that "we should know how to dismiss women who love to ruin a relationship."

"Correct!"
They fixed Kara a few minutes later. And they piled a lot of clothes on her stomach, causing her stomach to sink. They used a lot of packing tape to ensure that their drama would not fail epically later on. Kara and Liza were left inside for a while. She intends to contact Harris. But it makes no difference because she will simply pick it up later. She returned inside to find Liza had finished fixing Kara. She burst out laughing.
"It's fine if you're pregnant, Kara."

Kara's complaint: "Shut up! The weight of my stomach."

"Just walk slowly later, or everything will fall apart."

Harris came down from the office in the afternoon. He didn't want to return home, so he couldn't enter the house. He had already left the building. Someone called him as he was about to get into his car.

"Sweetheart!"

He turned to see his wife's bright smile. It peered out the car window. He walked up to her and kissed her on the lips.

"What are you doing?" he inquired.

"It's just arrived. You were picked up. You'll drive this car and leave your car there," she says.

"Sure."

He locked his car door and handed the key to the guard to park in the parking lot. He opened the front seat door, but when he looked back, he saw Liza's happy face, but Kara's was the polar opposite. His gaze was drawn to her stomach. His eyes widened as he saw what he saw.
"When did you get pregnant, Kara? I don't remember you having a boyfriend yet," he inquired.

Kara remained silent and gazed out the window. He'd already driven the car. Elijah leaned in close and whispered.

"Don't ask any more questions, sweetheart; she's going through something right now," Elijah said quietly.

"The man who got her pregnant left her?" he inquired once more.

"Just stay quiet."

"What are we doing?"

"Where is Liza's place?" Elijah asked.

"In the classic Subdivision, the boys said," Liza replied.

Harris is perplexed by his wife's attitude. What exactly is going on? But he chose to remain silent. And she told him which subdivision they needed to visit. Fortunately, he became acquainted with the aforementioned subdivision. He exited the vehicle and opened the door for his wife. He noticed Liza and Kara walk through the gate first. Elijah stopped her as she was about to enter.

"What's going on here, Sweetheart?" he asked.

"No more questions, Harris; just go with the flow, and let's go." Her response.

Harris only followed Elijah through the gate. Harris's eyes widened as the front door swung open. His wife's friends were all present. Especially Nico, who was clearly in trouble next to a woman. Harris was already perplexed by what was going on. And in front of them was an elderly woman and man who appeared to be a couple. Both of their faces were filled with rage.

He didn't notice Liza or Kara. Suddenly, everyone's attention was drawn to their actions, and Kara appeared, clutching Liza. The pupils dilate inwardly. Nico's eyes widened as he gazed at Kara, particularly her big belly.

"Good morning, everyone. We apologize for being late. Is the meeting over?" Elijah asked next to him, causing Harris to frown.

"Who are you?" asked the elderly gentleman.

Elijah grabbed Kara's elbow and drew her inside. Harris came along despite his confusion.

"We're here to tell you all that that man already has a wife, and the woman is her. Can't you see she's about to give birth? And we won't allow you to just decide to plan a marriage to your daughter if it's married to her," Elijah said, drawing a blank from Harris. What exactly is this? He had no idea what was going on, but he chose to sit on the empty sofa because he was hungry for what he had heard.

"No, my daughter told us that this man is single and never married!" exclaimed the elderly woman, as if about to erupt in rage.

Harris turned to face Nico. Its previously troubled expression had been replaced by relief. He can't imagine something like this happening to him. And there was a part of him that couldn't believe what was happening. He is aware that his wife informed him of events in the lives of his friends, but he is unaware of this. Is this a scene from a show? He is aware that Nico is being coerced into marriage. Even the other guys are in the dark. They are simply astounded by what is taking place.

And Liza remained silent, but he knows she was relieved. He had no idea his gentle and kind wife would raise an eyebrow now, like a mother who does not want to fool a child. Harris wished he could laugh. He had an idea, but he wanted to be certain. If Nico was the biological father of the child, Elijah could be in big trouble.
"Of course, sir. She is your daughter, whose parents will not believe her even if she lies," Elijah replied.

The woman rose to her feet.

"How dare you! I'm not lying. I'm not a liar. Nico just told them you're the father of my baby!" cries the woman, leaving Nico speechless.

It doesn't appear to want to speak.

"See? He can't answer because if the man knew what was going on, we wouldn't have gotten this far," Elijah explained.

"Is this some kind of joke, Daddy? Nico is very much single, and I know all of that," the woman sobbed.

His wife's brow furrowed.

"Really? How sure are you, Miss? Can you take away a father's right to be with his child if you tie him to your lies?" said Elijah. "Don't you feel sorry for her? She was about to give birth but she was so stressed out about what was going on that she didn't eat or sleep."
With tears in her eyes, the woman laughed.

"What about me? He got me pregnant and then you say all that? You are a woman, too. How can this happen to you? I'm sure you'll be as hurt as I am," the woman said to Elijah.

Elijah made a foolish grin.

"If my husband cheats, I let him go, but I will never be fooled without any evidence. I'm the legal wife, so keep the hook. And mind you, you're beautiful and rich, but do you want to be a fixture and another woman without papers?" Elijah asked.

"What do you mean?" the woman asked.

"We have proof that we are telling the truth; we know what we did here was wrong because it was trespassing, but we have a document that will confirm that they are married," his wife said.

Their companions frowned. Harris realized he was the only one who had noticed. But he knew that no one knew the truth.

While Nico was tense, Elijah brought the said papers in front of the old man and woman.

"So, sir, what do you think of that? You still don't believe me? We can provide an Attorney to prove that. You might say we're just doing the paperwork. And for you, Miss. If you said Nico was the only father of your child. He supports the child but as you can see you can't go together and get married because he is married and then when the child comes out we can put him through DNA testing to find out," Elijah said.

The entire area was deafeningly quiet. Nobody said anything. But the old lady shattered it.

"Do you think we'll forget about this incident? You're mistaken. Our daughter's credibility and the family's shame are at stake here," the madam stated sternly.

"I know that, ma'am, but it's not our fault that your daughter ended up like that. There are many contraceptives available these days to prevent an unexpected pregnancy, but she prefers to get pregnant with no certainty. It's her choice, anyway. Good day," Elijah said.

Kara was then dragged from the house. Harris complied in the nick of time. He's glad the couple didn't know each other because their father would have known what was going on. As they stepped out of the gate, Elijah took a deep breath. He was thirsty for the scenes he was working on. And I'm sure it will rain later as a result of her husband's question. He had been sitting quietly before, but he was aware that he was upset with her.

They climbed into the car. Kara and Liza were in another car. They have also followed since they go out.
