Chapter 20
She approached Lucy after Justin had left.
"That was harsh," he remarks.
"Yeah, it's better that way so he doesn't have to hope anymore. I'm not in a relationship right now because that would be the cause of my fall. I had many dreams in life. I'm not as rich as him. He was kind but I saw him earlier with a woman holding his arm. And now he came here and brought some stuff. I don't want to have a problem when I go to school," Lucy explained.
And Elijah didn't notice Lucy's regret that it drove Justin away; she was determined not to make it her friend.
"You're stunning, Lucy, and there's no doubt Justin won't be interested in you," she says.
"Thank you, Ma'am. I would only know that now if you hadn't told me, because I don't care about my appearance; what matters to me is that I achieve my dreams."
"You're doing the right thing."
Harris didn't even enjoy himself at the birthday party. Because all he could think about was Elijah. He was embarrassed by its previous attitude. He was furious at what that woman had done. Whatever it does, it cannot stop his father from loving that woman. So he doesn't know how to persuade Elijah to accept Camille solely for the sake of their father's happiness. But what he desired seemed unlikely to occur.
When he turned around, he saw a man about Lucy's age turning away. He also appeared to be a guest at the aforementioned party. Because he was alone, he approached it.
"Hey," he said.
"Hello, Mr. Blake; I didn't expect to see you here," he replied.
Harris grinned because he recognized him.
"Do you recognize me?"
"Of course, I came from your house earlier," he replied.
"Really? And why?"
"I go to see Lucy. We only went to the same university, but she vaguely sent me home," he laughed, but he didn't seem happy.
"Do you like her?" Harris inquired.
"Sort of, but it's difficult to please a country girl."
"Right?"
"Yeah, because she doesn't want to talk to me; what's the harm in having a different life?"
"I'm not sure; we have no idea what kind of life she has with them."
It bowed.
"My name is Justin, and I'm wondering if it's okay if I return?"
"Yeah."
"Thank you very much, Mr. Blake."
Harris left because the night was getting darker. So he said goodbye to Justin. When he got home it was quiet that he thought Elijah and Lucy were sleeping but he found them side by side in the living room.
"Good evening. I thought you were sleeping?"
"Not yet. Lucy had an unexpected visitor." Elijah replied.
Lucy frowned at Elijah.
"Yeah. I met him at the party getting drunk because Lucy seemed to reject him." Harris replied smiling.
"He didn't court me, sir," said Lucy.
"That's where it's going, Lucy. The men's strategies are supposed to just want to make friends but want to court," he replied.
"Whatever. I'm going to sleep. The good night the two of you." Lucy said goodbye and went upstairs.
Elijah and being left and they're laughing.
"All I thought, are you coming home later?" she questioned.
Harris lay on his wife's lap while she was caressing his hair.
"I'm bored there after we talked about business, everyone is busy so I just went home," he replied.
"When did you lose your appetite at the party?" she questioned.
"Ever since we got married because the world of mine just revolves around you."
Elijah's eyebrows rose.
"Why was it my fault?"
Harris laughs.
"You didn't find it cute and sweet? You're the only one my world revolves around?"
"Ah, I see. I don't get it right away. Thank you." Elijah replied.
"Let's sleep," Elijah said.
And they entered the room together.
The next day Elijah woke up when she saw that Harris was no longer beside her. She left the room and went straight to the kitchen and found her husband happily eating alone.
"You are starving early in the morning, sweetheart. Are you cooking?" he asked.
"No. Lucy cooked." his answer.
"You woke her up to cook for you?"
"Nope. She's already cooking when I get here in the kitchen. And then she goes back to sleep."
"Ah, I see."
"What about we go to a beach this weekend, Sweetheart?"
"That's a good idea. We haven't been able to unwind in a long time," she replied.
"You haven't eaten yet?" his question.
"Only later. I'll sleep again."
"Okay."
Elijah went back inside their room and covered herself with a blanket. When she woke up again, Harris went to the office. So she went into the bathroom and took a shower. Harris, on the other hand, entered the company early but he was just outside and inside the car while looking at whoever entered the building. He instructed Mark to ask who provided the food but his employees did not know. Elijah passed by a coffee shop for a while but she could not enter when the company guard blocked her.
"Ma'am, sir is still outside. Stayed in the car. It's been a while and hasn't come out yet." said the guard.
"Why?" Elijah asked.
"I do not know."
"Thank you."
It's a good thing she didn't go straight to the entrance or Harris would have booked her. Fortunately, she thought of going through the coffee shop first and the two of them met the guard. She gave him money.
"What's this for, Ma'am?"
"That's for you to cover me up," she replied.
"Why is that? Why are you doing such a thing?" he asked.
Elijah was speechless. She could not tell him her real plan.
"As far as I know Boss is a year married so why are you still sending food?" his question seemed super innocent.
Elijah wanted to laugh at what he said. She cannot lie.
"The truth of the matter is I'm his wife," she says.
"I don't believe you. Maybe you're just a stalker who wants to catch Boss." said the guard.
Elijah laughs. No one believes anyone in the way she looks. She showed them their wedding picture on her phone.
"It's you and Boss. But why?" he asked.
"It's a long story, Brother. So if you don't want to be fired from your work, just shut up," she says.
"All right, Ma'am. I'll signal you when sir has entered the building." said the guard.
"Thank you."
As the guard left Elijah's neck rose to see where her husband's car was parked. She saw the guard wave his hand. And then Elijah slowly walked into the building. Harris just sat quietly in the swivel chair and thought. The door opened and Mark entered.
"Do you have a problem, sir?" Mark asked him.
"Nothing."
"But are you thinking or waiting? Don't tell me you're waiting for someone to send you food again?" Mark asked.
"I've eaten, Mark. And I can buy a lot of food," he replied.
"But you became curious who the sender was?"
"Sort of."
"But you can't know that because you're already married," said Mark.
"I'm not going to make her my girlfriend. I just want to meet her and thank her," he replied.
They heard a knock on the door. So Mark opened the door.
"Speaking of. Here's the food for you again a pancit and slice bread," said Mark and landed in front of him.
"Now I'm also curious who sends it because it knows all your favorites. You're not a celebrity so you put all your favorites on social media and tabloids," said Mark.
Harris nodded because Mark was right. As for relatives, he didn't have any because his daddy is an only child. So it’s impossible Elijah’s daddy is sending. I will call if he receives it just in case. Harris looked at the cellophane and searched for the note if there was any but he could find none.
"It's nice seeing you smile, Handsome," said Mark.
So he looked at him. And he saw Mark carrying the note he had been looking for.
"I'm not fond of such settings, sir. But if it will going to be this sweet the sender will answer it right away." Mark's jokes.
"Bastard!"
Mark laughs.
Harris was shaken by what Mark had pointed out. He has been working with him for a long time so they now treat each other like friends. While Elijah smiled in her mind. She knew that Harris had received the pancit and slice of bread she had ordered. It's fun when it's like this. She had never experienced this kind of set-up. A type has an admirer who will send whatever she likes. She was busy looking at her computer monitor when a lot of papers were laid out in front of her. She looked at the bearer. She saw Miss Roche raise an eyebrow. She didn't know why this woman's blood was so hot on her that she had a much better physique than her because with her boobs seemed to be coming out wearing an office polo shirt.
"What will I do with that?" she asked.
"You're an employee here, so why are you still asking? Of course, it's work," she says.
She held a pair of scissors so that it could easily get out of the door. Elijah grinned at the thought.
"Miss Roche is very bitter in life. From the beginning, she thought badly of you. What if she found out who you are." laughed Mrs. Acosta.
"I wonder why she's like that. I haven't done anything bad to her," she says.
"She is insecure. She sees maybe that you're just nicer and beautiful than her and have a handsome husband," she says.
"What about you, Ma'am? When do you plan to get married again?" she asked.
She smiled at her.
"Will anyone still like me, Eli? I'm old."
"Only buffaloes grow old, Ma'am."
Mrs. Acosta laughed.
"If you haven't thought of such a plan, I won't know you personally. You're very kind and very down to earth," she says.
"Thank you, Ma'am. I was ten years old when my mother died so I didn't feel how to be loved by a mother," she says.
"Didn't your daddy remarry?"
"Do you know my daddy?"
"Yeah, but we didn't get along. I only know him because he's in business." her answer.
"Not married but he has a very young girlfriend."
"That's why when you came in here earlier, you seemed to be thinking deeply. And I'm not thinking that your husband is probably your problem," she says.
"Yeah. My father is so in love with that woman."
"Don't you want your father to marry when it's younger?" she asked.
"Sort of."
"But there are things you can't give that make your father happy. When it comes to caring, you can't take care of him because you're married, so start accepting that your father is happy with that woman," said Mrs. Acosta.
"What if he just gets hurt?"
"It's part of love to be hurt, Eli. You can't learn if you don't experience the pain. Your father is old so he needs someone to take care of him now. So the right thing to do is to be happy for him."
Elijah was silent knowing everything Mrs. Acosta said was right. But Elijah still could not accept that woman no matter what happened. She wants her father to fall in love again with the right person.
"You should learn and accept that your father's love extends beyond you. That's how life works, Eli. Acceptance makes our lives easier. I understand you. But for now, understand your father more. In my life, I've been living alone for almost 5 years because my only son wanted to live with his father. My love for him is selfless, so I agree even if it breaks my heart. I'm always thinking that he loves his father more than I do.
