Chapter 23

Elijah took a pair of undergarments and put them on over a thin shawl. She couldn't wear something like this because they didn't go to the beach. She left the room while Harris was still asleep. She searched the kitchen and looked for something to cook. She found food, vegetables, and meat inside the fridge when she opened it. She doesn't want to cook Harris's favorites because he might taste what she's cooked and he'll have an idea about who sends the food to his office because he might get caught up. The good thing that, Lucy came into their lives is that she knows how to cook. She just cooked a few pieces of chicken topped with crispy fry. Then she put rice in the rice cooker. She also cooked hotdogs and eggs. Then she made some juice and saw a door adjacent to the kitchen so she opened it while carrying a glass of juice. She was amazed at what she saw because they were in a place far from civilization. And the house they were in was on top of a cliff that could see all around.
She and Harris have been married for almost two years, but she doesn't know who owns this house. This place is very nice and peaceful. And cold all around. The wind blows her hair and touches her skin. She was so amazed by his surroundings that he didn't notice two arms wrapped around his waist.
"Did you wake up this early? Aren't you tired from what we were doing last night?" Harris asked with his face on her neck. She could hear his breathing.
"What did we do last night?" asked Elijah.
She wants to annoy her husband. Harris let go of his embrace and faced her.
"Don't tell me. You don't know what we're doing? Is that just because you're drunk?" Harris asked with a frown.
Elijah shyly nodded lest Harris gets angry. But he just smiled very sweetly.
"And maybe you're wondering why your whole body hurts?"
Elijah frowned.
"Yeah. It's like you haven't tasted grace in years because you intend to paralyze me."
"I'm sorry, Sweetheart. How come when I came out of the bathroom I saw you naked so I immediately put go on top of you." Harris said with a laugh.
"What? No way! Maybe you just undressed me." she answered.
That's embarrassing.
"Nope. You took off your clothes yourself. And then your two legs spread out. And take note, you also took off your undergarments. So next time don't get too drunk because you'll lose your sanity." he said.
Elijah drinks up all her juice. Is she like that when she's drunk? Maybe she was the first to approach him. Harris laughed causing Elijah to look at him.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing. You look cute when you're embarrassed." Harris replied.
"Damn you! You took advantage of my drunkenness," she said with a frown.
"Nope."
Elijah just laughed.
"By the way, whose house is this?"
"Ours."
"Really? Why am I only now finding out about this?" asked Elijah.
"I'm going to surprise you. But I bought it before when we didn't know each other. I brought you here. I also want to unwind because I'm too stressed at work."
"Thank you for bringing me here. This view relieves my stress," she says.
She wrapped her legs around Harris's and kissed him passionately on the lips. Even though they are in the same house, she still misses him. She was about to take off his clothes when she heard someone coughing. She and Harris looked behind them. And she saw a man smiling as he looked at the two of them.
"I'm sorry sir. I came here. I came from the town and sold some fruits. There was some leftover so I brought it here." said the man.
"Thank you, Maico," Harris said.
"Is this your wife?" Maico asked.
"Hi. I'm Elijah by the way. Do you live here too?" she asked.
"No, Ma'am. My wife and I have a house there in the area of coconut trees."
"Really?"
"Yes. You can go there this afternoon or tomorrow. You will enjoy it." Maico said smiling.
"Yes sure."
"Perhaps you would like to come with me to the house, sir? We will slaughter a native chicken. I have many pet chickens." Maico said.
"I like that," Elijah said.
"All right. Be the first one out there Maico." Harris said.
After Maico left, she and Harris looked at each other.
"We can just stay here," he said.
"No. I want to eat native chicken," answered Elijah.
"Alright. Get dressed there. I'll wait for you outside." Harris said and went out first.
Elijah entered the room again and looked for something to wear in the closet. She is very curious about whose clothes are in the closet. Is this the dress of his previous girlfriends? Elijah was suddenly jealous. Why is he putting the clothes of his exes here? Is there only one woman who owns these clothes? Elijah can't be picky about clothes no matter what she wears. She doesn't like to wear branded clothes. She saw a plain violet blouse and black leggings. After she got dressed she looked for her sling bag. And her phone. She checked to see if there was a signal in this area. It's good that there is so she immediately called Lucy to say hello.
Fortunately, the first time she called, Lucy answered immediately.
"Hello. Where are you now, Ma'am?" asked Lucy.
"Here in the field. You?" she asked.
"Your daddy's at home. He's out of the hospital. He suddenly got stronger when Camille came back. Love does a lot." Lucy said laughing.
Elijah laughed.
"Yes."
"Your daddy said so. When you get home, you should go straight to their house," said Lucy.
"All right."
When Lucy cut the line, Elijah came out carrying his phone. He saw Harris and Maico talking.
"I wish you had brought a jacket, Sweetheart. We're going to be going through a lot of sharp grass." Harris said.
"It's OK," he answered.
And they started walking. They went through the tall grass. I can't see the path anymore because of the different types of grass that are unfamiliar to him.
"I called Lucy, sweetheart. She said daddy is out of the hospital," he says.
"Good for him. You know what the reason is. It's good that you begged Camille. You even fought with him so you ran away from dad's house." Harris said.
"I'm done asking for forgiveness from him so you don't need to remind me of that," Elijah answered while rolling her eyes.
Elijah is not spoiled so it's okay for him to go through the grass.
"Are your skins injured, sweetheart?" Harris asked.
"No way. I'm fine," answered Elijah.
"Aren't you bitten by an insect?" it asked again.
Elijah smiled. So every day she fell in love with this man because he was so concerned about her. So he held her arm so they could walk together. An hour later they reached the two-story green-painted house. She sweated a lot. This is her first-time experience walking on the grass that she walks on. She sat on a wooden seat under a mango tree. The cool breeze and the fresh feeling are something. It's not like the city is too polluted because of garbage and vehicle fumes.

Harris entered the house followed by Maico. But Elijah didn't follow anymore. She just left it outside and looked around. A lot of fruits hit the fruits. Tall coconut trees. And the hectare of the land is so wide. She didn't know if Harris still owned it or not. Elijah seems to want to live here. Then she saw a woman about Lucy's age approach her with a glass of water and a pitcher of juice. Along with a plate of cookies.
"Hi, Ma'am. Cold juice and water for you," she said.
"Thank you, dear," she replied.
"I'm Michaela by the way. Maico's wife," the woman said.
"Nice to meet you."
"I'm also happy to meet you. You're beautiful. And your complexion is smooth." Michaela said.
"Thank you. We are just as beautiful." Elijah said.
"Thank you. This is the first time that Sir Harris brought you here. And he just came back here now after how many years." she said.
"Really?"
"Yes."
"How many children do you and Maico have?" she asked.
"Not yet. We've been married for a few years but we haven't had a child yet. It's been four years. Maybe it's not time yet." answered Michaela.
"Really? It's been a long time. It's too sad because you and Maico are the only two living in that house and it's big." she says.
"Sir Harris set it up. Maico didn't want to agree because it was embarrassing but sir got angry so we didn't do anything," Michaela said.
She drank water. Maybe nothing wrong if she asked them about Harris.
It seems that Michaela is not leaving yet. And she felt that she still wanted to be friends with her and talk.
"How many women have Harris brought here?" she asked out of nowhere.
"Before, he never brought even a single woman here. Sir Harris is kind and he's not the type of man who counts women. And he only brought you here as his wife." Michaela answered without a hint of plasticity.
Michaela looked at her.
"Anything you wear suits you, even if it's a rag," she said smiling.
"Thank you."
"Did you already check your closet?" asked Michaela.
"Huh?"
"Your closet in your room with sir Harris. Did you like all the clothes in there?"
"Yes, I saw it. Everything is beautiful." Elijah said.
"I bought all that in the city. Because sir said I can buy you anything because you can't be picky about clothes. It's preparation because you're coming here." Michaela said.
Elijah just nodded. She thought that the owners of those clothes were her husband's exes.
"Thank you so much, Michaela."
"You're welcome. How many days will you stay here?"
"I don't know yet. But it depends on Harris," she answered.
"We can bathe in the stream. The water is nice and cold. It's very clean." Michaela said.
"Really? When?"
"Tomorrow morning or maybe afternoon. The whole stream is surrounded by trees so no heat will come in." Michaela replied with a smile.
"What are they doing inside the house?" asked Elijah.
"Roasting chicken to make soup and add lots of vegetables. I have a vegetable garden behind our house."
"Wow. Is it easy to grow vegetables?"
"Of course. When you stay here for a while I will teach you." Michaela said.
