Chapter 20

"Good morning boss.

"Good morning ma’am."

"Welcome boss."

Morning greetings welcomed me as I sashayed into the company. I tried my best to reply to their greetings with a smile on my face even though my head was pounding from being hungover. One of the reasons I hate drinking.

Stepping into the elevator, it took me straight up to my floor where I encountered Mr Gregory.

"Good morning, young miss."

"Good morning." I smiled widely, and began walking to my office. He followed me.

"The real estate department sent something to me. It's a list of lands that will be profitable to purchase." I stopped walking as he handed a tablet to me. I began scrolling through it. There, I was faced with different types of lands, and buildings in different locations.

"What do they suggest you purchase?" I returned the tablet after scrolling enough.

"They suggest buying the buildings in the rural area, because there is news that the state is planning to redevelop the area, and I confirmed it."

"Well then. Check the amount we can disburse before buying it."

"I already did and we have more than enough."

I turned to Mr Greg with a smile. Isn't he the best?

"Good job, Mr Greg." I gave him a thumbs up. He chuckled and I smiled, before entering my office.

Time to work.

_______

"Hello!!!" The tiny high pitched voice made me look up from the system, to see Karen entering the office.

"What are you doing here?" I frowned as she settled in front of me.

"Are you angry or something?"

"Of course! You abandoned me at the club!"

"I did or you did?"

"What?" I scoffed, and Karen rolled her eyes, leaning in.

"From what I remember, I was dancing when I saw you being carried out of the club by James, so tell me– did you hit it off with him again?"

"Hey!"

"Oh please, stop acting like this is the first." I shook my head at Karen's teasing eyes and she giggled.

"I can't believe he is the one you had a one night stand with. He is so cute!"

"Is that why you are here?"

"Nope! I am just coming back from a shoot and I decided to stop by. Let's have lunch together."

"I'm busy." I looked away from her and returned to the system, but she stood up.

"Let go!" I said when she grabbed my hand, but she didn't. She kept pulling at my hand till she successfully dragged me up.

"I am really bu.."

"Let's go." She cut me off, linking our arms and pulling me out of the office.

"Oh, Miss Karen. It's been a while." When we got to the elevator, Mr Greg was there, about pressing the open button.

"I know, right? I need to take this girl out!"

Mr Greg chuckled and pressed the elevator button. It opened and we made our way in. Throughout the lift down, Mr Greg and Karen kept chatting, leaving me out, and that was what I wanted.

The elevator finally opened, and we left Mr Greg before leaving the company.

________

"Thinking about it, James looks familiar." We were eating lunch in a restaurant when Karen spoke up. I looked up at her. Her cheek was a little swollen from the sausage she was eating.

"Do you think I have seen him somewhere?" She cocked her to the side, and I nodded my head. "Probably on the news, he was the one who invested in my company."

"Really!"

"Yeah." I nodded.

She "He must be really rich then."

"That's true."

We continued eating while talking about random things. About twenty minutes later, we were done. We paid the bills and were ready to leave when she excused herself to the restroom.

As I sat there while waiting for her, the restaurant door opened and two men in suits came in. They settled on the table in front of me.

"Our boss would be so glad once we tell him this." One of the men with short hair said to the other who agreed with him. He talked about some land that they would recommend to their boss, so I assumed they were in the real estate industry. Taking my focus away from them, I faced my phone, sorting out things I could do with my phone, as they continued talking, not until one of them talked about the state's plan to build a hospital for the public use on that land.

My ear pricked at the sound of that. I left what I was doing to search about it, and it was true. The state was currently looking for a worthwhile land to build a hospital on. I continued listening on their discussion and found out that one of the men knew that they were going to buy that particular land from a cousin.

All this piqued my interest so I checked the price of the particular land, and lo and behold, it was cheaper than what I expected. I quickly sent all the important information to Mr Greg, telling him to buy the land. Though it was risky, I had nothing to lose. The land was cheap and the company could use it if everything happened to be false, but if the state was to buy it, it would be a big hit for me, cause they would buy it at a large price.

"I'm late right now, so sorry." I looked up at Karen who was rushing to me. A smile appeared on my face, and I stood up, hanging my arms around her neck.

"Let's go."

"Okay...are you okay? You are acting weird." Karen looked at me confusedly, but I only chuckled and pushed her into the car when we got to it.

With a giggle, I whirled to the other side and got in the driver's seat.

"Are you sure you are fine?" Karen asked as I brought the car to life. Turning to look at her, I smiled and poked her cheek.

"I'm fine, really fine." I said and zoomed off. To the men who I heard this from, I'm sorry for stealing your idea, but this is business.
