Chapter 73
SILVANA
Karen pulled up in the parking lot of the company, and I opened the door, exiting the car with her. As we stepped into the company, the workers flashed me surprise and shocked looks, it doubled when I got to the hall the press conference was taking place. I pulled the door open, stepping in and all eyes moved to me, their surprised and shocked looks really evident.
Smirking slightly, I took my gaze to Xander who looked as shocked as the other people in the hall. Well, I know they are surprised, but it just happened.
FLASHBACK
"When would she possibly wake up? You said she will wake up few days ago, but she is still lying unconsciously on the bed." I heard someone say, the voice I recognized as my uncle's, then, "Calm down and let's wait a bit more, I'm sure she would wake up." That was my aunt.
"It's enough to get worried." That was Karen.
I wanted to say something, that's when I realized everywhere was dark. I slowly opened eyes, my eyeballs coming landing on a white surface. Where am I? Heaven? The last thing I remember was when I was driving my car and then... I winced at the memory of my car falling off a bridge. Tears pricked in my eyes. Was I really dead? But I just heard my Uncle, Aunt and Karen's voice so how –
"Oh, she is awake!" Three people rushed to me and when I realized the faces as Uncle Jake and Aunt Lucia's face, I breath out in relief.
"Hello, Miss Silvana. Can you hear and see me?" I looked at the man dressed in white coat before slowly nodding.
"Great, can you breath without difficulty?"
He asked again and this time, I replied with my mouth, my voice coming out muffled because of the oxygen mask over my nose. "Can you get rid of the mask?" I asked silently and the doctor let out a small chuckle before taking off.
I exhaled loudly, taking my eyes from the doctor, to my uncle and aunt, Karen and then... I looked behind them in search of James but he was nowhere in sight.
"Where is James?"
"He had to leave for his company because of an urgent matter, but don't worry, he would be back. He had been sticking to you ever since the accident." Karen replied.
"Oh... " I trailed off, my eyes widening and I sprang up from my lying position. "The press conference... What about it?"
"It was suspended for a few days, but another one is being held today. Xander would announce himself as the Interim President." Uncle Jake replied and my eyes widened more.
"I can't allow that." I shook my head, getting up from the bed.
"What are you doing?!" Aunt Lucia asked, but I ignored her, facing Karen. "I need to get to the company right now."
"You can't do that, you just woke up!" Karen shouted.
"I can't let Xander announce himself as the Interim President! I'm okay now!" I yelled back.
"Is any wrong in Xander being the president!"
I turned swiftly to Aunt Lucia. "It is."
They finally agreed to let me go, including the doctor, more like I made him agree. Karen helped me get clothes while I had bath. In thirty minutes, I was ready to leave. Karen offered to drive me while the other two stayed back.
BACK TO PRESENT
With my gaze still on Xander who was looking shocked as hell, I started walking to the podium, stopping right in front of him.
"You can excuse yourself now, I'm back." I told him, and his shock worsened.
"How come you are here... alive?"
"Where you expecting me to die?" I cocked my head slightly before pushing him slightly out of the way and took his place. While he was still being in shock, I started the press conference, apologizing about the illegal disposition on waste and promising to take responsibility.
Just as I finished, one of the reporters stood up. "How come you are here? The reports said you were unconscious in the hospital."
I smiled, shrugging a bit. "I guess it's a miracle."
The conference ended with claps and after doing a little bow, I walked out of the hall, meeting Xander in front.
He was leaning on the wall, but when he saw me, he left it and came to me.
"What the hell did you just do?"
"I should be asking you that." I shot back and he scoffed. "You – "
"Who said you could be the president in my absence?" I cut in.
"I have enough shares to take that position."
"Your wish." I snorted and took a step closer to him, our eyes mirroring. "You will never get the group like you want, so just focus on the the one I gave you or you will be thrown out if care is not taken, and you are not the highest shareholder after me." I said to his face and without another glance at him, I walked away with Karen.
I was about leaving the company when I heard my name being called. Karen and I stopped to see who. It was Mr Greg, he smiled as he finally stopped in front of me.
"Are you okay? When did you wake up?"
"Maybe an hour ago." I glanced at Karen who shrugged. "Anyways, take care of the company till I'm back."
"Of course! I'm really relieved you are back, the thought of Mr Xander being the president almost made me go insane."
Karen and I chuckled, and we said our goodbyes. Just as I stepped out of the company, my eyes landed on James who was staring at me from a distance, by his car.
"James..." I sniffed, rushing to meet him. I wrapped my hands around him, hugging him tight. I expected him to hug me back but he didn't, and I had to pull away, my gaze on his blank face.
"Aren't you happy to see me?"
"Why did you leave the hospital?" He finally talked, his voice serious.
"I had to, Xander was going to do something stupid if I didn't show up and I don't want that. Are you angry at me because it that?" I asked him, my lips pursed into a sad pout.
James let out a sigh, his expression softening and he pulled me into a hug. His hands went to my hair and he started stroking it softly. The way his hands moved on my hair was really soothing.
"I missed you so much. I was already crazy as I waited for you to wake up." A smile lit up on my face at his words and I tightened the hug around him.
"I'm so sorry for making you worried." I mumbled, deeping my head in the crook of his neck, I gave him a little peck there.
"I love you."
