Chapter 77

KAREN

It was another new day and really early in the morning, and I was free. Most of my shoots were happening next week and I couldn't be more happy.

I walked out of my house with cheerful steps to the grocery shop. I'm not that much of a cook, but that doesn't mean I don't know how to cook. I mostly don't have time to cook cause I'm always busy. I also have a maid too and would have sent her on this grocery shopping, but she had taken a week off to visit her parents, so I have no choice but to do this.

I took a small scarf from the small sling bag I was with, using it to tye up my hair at the front.

"Hey, Kary!" I had only taken a few steps from my house when I heard my name being called. I turned my head, my eyes landing on James, but I immediately looked away, walking away. As I did, I could see him staring at me confusedly from the corner of my eye.

Well, that's what you get when you insult me. Though, he didn't exactly insult me, but saying I'm not his type is like an insult to me and really annoying. Moreso, I don't see a reason to talk to someone who is not your type.

I was only a few distance from the grocery store when my phone rang loudly. I reached for it in my bag, my face twisting into a frown when I saw my manager calling. I swiped the green button.

"I remember telling you not to call me throughout this week." I said, as I placed the phone on her ear. The first thing that caught my hear was her ragged breath and hurried footsteps.

"I actually didn't want to, but the shoots with Klein cosmetics as being expedited to today."

"What!" I shrieked, "How is that possible? I thought you said on Monday."

"That was the actual time, but they suddenly called and asked to come today."

"The hell!" I sighing loudly before speaking. "Are you on your way?"

"Yeah, about to."

"Just head to the shooting venue, I will meet you there."

"Oh, okay. See you." She said and I hanged up, turning on my heels to head back to the house.

Chad was still outside, but I payed him no attention and was about sprinting to my house when he called me.

"Wait up!" I paused, turning around. He jogged the short distance to me, his eyebrows pulling up in a concerned frown.

"What's up? Did I do anything wrong?"

"Something wrong? Did you?" I posed the question back at him, while putting on a clueless look.

His gaze twisted into confusion. "I really don't remember doing anything wrong, but you just ignored me even though you clearly heard me."

"I did." I let out a sarcastic gasp and he frowned. "Now you're being sarcastic."

I cleared my throat, shrugging slightly. "I really don't know what you are talking about, but I need to go now."

"But – "

"Bye." I said before he could complete his words and rushed into the house. I quickly changed my dress from shirts and tank top to a black shirt gown. After making sure I was good to go, I left the house.

I pulled up in front of the shooting venue before leaving my car.

"Hey." I said to my manager who was waiting for me in front of the building. She led me in and I was immediately taken for my makeup. Tye concept for the shoot was smoky makeup so a smoky makeup, was done on my face, and damn! I love it. It's screaming fire.

"Hey," I greeted my manager, who was waiting for me outside the building. She ushered me in, and before I knew it, I was whisked away to the makeup chair. The concept for the shoot was a smoky, sultry look, and the artist worked their magic, transforming my face to a dramatic, fiery design. I gazed in the mirror, loving the result - It's so hot!

I was also dressed in outfits matching my makeup, and in few minutes, I was ready. The moment I walked out of the dressing room, the door beside opened and someone walked out.

"What are you doing here?"

"What do you think?" Kyra smirked with a shrug.

"Hey, are you done?" I looked at my manager who just showed up.

"What the hell is going on, why is she here?" I questioned.

Klein styling director stepped forward, his face hinting at confusion and that expression was directed at me.

"Why are you here, Karen?"

"Is that a question to ask me? You should be asking her that!" I shot at him and he smiled nervously.

"I'm sorry, but I think you were not informed. We decided to use Kyra for the shoot."

My brows shot up in disbelief. "I don't understand."

"What's too difficult to understand? He is clearly saying that I would be modeling for this shoot and you should get the hell out."

"Will you shut the fuck up!" I whipped my head in her direction. "Who the hell are you to tell me to get out."

"Well," the man cleared his throat behind me and I immediately turned to him.

"What's this about?" I questioned, clearly pissed off.

"Oh my!" A lady suddenly rushed in.

"I'm so sorry, I made a mistake. I was supposed to cancel the shoot with you. I'm sorry." The lady rushed, bowing continuously.

I scoffed, and looked at Kyra. "What are you trying to do?"

"What do you mean? It's not my fault that they chose me over you." She replied, chuckling in between.

I folded my fists, glancing at the man and the lady briefly before storming out.

"I had no idea," my manager tried to talk but I ignored her and went into my car, driving out of the place.

KYRA

My lips curved into a smirk as I watched Karen leave the building angrily. Nice one, I like this.

"Did you really have to do that?" I turned to my manager who was now beside me, my brows furrowing. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, you didn't have to insult her and – "

"What's it to you?" I cut in and she stopped, sighing. My brows furrowed more. "Do you have something to say.

"Well, you are not gonna continue doing this, right?"

"Why shouldn't I? It's fun, more fun that she is Silvana's best friend." I grinned.

"But, If you keep taking her jobs, it can affect your reputation. People and mostly your colleagues will see you as someone who takes someone else's job."

"What's it to you and do I look like I care!" I snapped.

She sighed, pissing me off. "Will you stop sighing! You wanna lose your job!" I yelled out and she flinched, shaking her head repeatedly. "I'm sorry, I won't interfere anymore."

"You better!" I hissed out, eyeing her.

"Err – " I turned swiftly to the director who gulped, smiling afterwards. "Can we start the shoot now?"

"Not yet, get me something to drink." I ordered, and walked away to seat on a relaxing chair.

Some minutes after I settled down, my manager came back with the drink I ordered. I took a large sip from it before handling it back to her.

"Any news about Silvana?" I asked, admiring my manicured nails.

"I heard that Mr James took her to his house after she woke up."

"What?!" I turned my head swiftly to her. "Are you sure?"

She nodded. "Yes, she has been at his house since on Wednesday."

My fists folded. That bitch. I had hoped she died in that accident, but how could she wake up and then just to cling onto James again.

"I think I should pay her a visit."

"Hmm?" I rolled my eyes at my manager whose brows was raised as she stared at me. I stood and pushed past her.

"Let's begin the shoot."
