Chapter 69

KAREN

I stood in front of my large mirror, powdering my face and fixing my hair. I was putting on a baggy, jean trouser with a thin, crop top fixated with rope.

I was getting dressed to go see my parents. They called me over and I had the hunch on why they called. To nag me as usual, about getting married and reminding me I wasn't a kid any longer.

I really they would just stop it. I have no interest in marriage and I doubt I would ever be. I love my life the way I was living it. Being a play girl was so much fun.

I get to hook up with different guys and not getting tied with one. Isn't so fun? Not only is it fun, it's better this way, and lessened the chances of heartbreak. Though for this past few weeks, I have not gotten laid or played anyone, I decided to take a break and just focus on my job.

As I applied my lip gloss on my lips, my eyes unknowningly drafted to the window, and I saw some bunch of huge men, moving loads and boxes into the next compound, directly opposite to mine.

Is someone moving in? My head tilted slightly to the side as I pondered about it. I eventually shrugged and just went ahead to do my thing.

Just as I grabbed my chanel bag, and was set to leave the house. My hands reaching for my car keys on my dressing table. The doorbell sounded in my ears and I realized someone was knocking on my door.

"Who could that be?" I muttered, raising one of my eyebrows up in curiosity, before opening my door and coming face to face with him.

"Chad?" I called out in disbelief, the thin lines of my eyebrows jumping up in surprise, my eyeballs widening.

"Karen?" He also called, his mouth falling agape, a note of shock in his voice and I knew he was just as surprised to see me as I was him.

"What are you doing here?" We both asked at the same time, then froze before chuckling.

"You go first." He nudged and I smiled secretly before asking again.

"What are you doing here?"

"I'm guessing I am your new neighbor because I just moved in next door" He replied and I realized it was his things those huge men were packing into the next compound.

" Oh!" I muttered, suddenly feeling stupid for an unknown reason.

"Here." I heard him say and raised up my head to look at him to see he was handling me a huge pack of biscuits and a cold bottle of juice. I didn't even notice he was holding these things earlier.

"Are these for me?" I questioned like an idiot and he blinked his long lashes, which I was envious of at me.

'Ofcourse it's for you, dummy.' my subconscious whispered and I bit my lower lips from embarrassment and accepted the snacks from him, before inviting him in.

"Please come in." I offered, opening my door widely for him to walk in. He beamed at me and as he stepped inside, glanced around for awhile, before turning to look at me.

"You have a very nice apartment." He complimented and I nodded.

"Would you love something to drink?" I asked and he nodded. " Yes please"

I smiled and walked into the kitchen, towards the fridge and got a bottle of wine, non-alcoholic to be precise and two glass cups.

"To becoming neighbors " He cheered, as we clinked our glasses. I just smiled in response and drank from my wine.

I watched as he sipped his, his lustful, red lips getting stained with red wine and I felt like licking it off.

Just then I remembered I still needed to see my parents. We chatted a little and then, he got up to leave. At my door, our hands made contact and I felt a stab of desire run through me.

"Hmm, bye" He waved and dashed off hurriedly like a scared rabbit.

My lips curved into a smile, and I got in my car, heading for my parents house. In about an hour, I arrived.

I entered the house and was greeted with a pleasant sight. The dinning table set, and my sister who I haven't seen for the past two months, gracing it.

"Kira." I called out excited and she got up from the table, letting out a joyful squeal before we both flew into one another's arm, hugging each other tightly.

"I missed you so much." She commented with a pout and I chuckled. She led me to sit beside her.

"What's up mum, dad?" I waved at my parents.

"Glad you decided to visit us after months." My mum snorted and I chucked, nudging at her arm playfully. My dad only had a smile on his face.

We began eating the already prepared meal, chatting away happily, especially Kira and I who had so much to catch up on.

But then, mum as usual had to ruin it by bringing up the discussion of marriage like I expected.

"So Karen," She called out, and I gently dropped my cutleries on my plate, having a feeling this conversation was going to be unpleasant.

"When are you bringing home a man? Remember you are not getting any young but older" She reminded me as always and I let out a tired sigh, facepalming myself in the process.

"Not now mum." I pleaded and Kira took this as a sign to chip in.

"So are you still breaking those, little, men fragile hearts?" Kira asked and then giggled like it was funny.

"Shut up Kira and stop supporting your sister's wrong doings" My parents both scolded Kira and I hid a grin.

"I am not mum, or am I ?" Kira questioned while pointing a finger under a chin, like she was contemplating and I burst into laughter, finding her funny.

My parents both turned to glare at me and then my sister.

"You two should quit acting like kids and stop making your mum and I worried." my father told us gently, while proceeding to place his arm around my mum, who snuggled deeper into him.

Both Kira and I turned to look at one another, before rolling our eyes.

"You two need to stop worrying for your wishes might soon come true." I told them and proceeded to eat my food.

My mum eyes widened.

"What do you mean?" She asked in a whisper-like manner, leaning in closely.

"I think I finally like someone." I replied and everyone went silent.
