Chapter 60

"Is... anything wrong?" Xavier asked and I took my gaze to him with my hand pointed at the box. "Why does it say Z-Premier Supplies and not Devan Supplies?"

"Oh... that – "

"Yes, that." I emphasized and he inhaled, exhaling the next seconds.

"Err – " my brows furrowed as I waited for him to say something, more like to tell a lie.

"Hmm... we actually intended to purchase from Devan Supplies but they were out of stocks on most items, so we opted for Z-Premier Supplies instead."

"Are they bankrupt?" I questioned.

"Huh?"

I chucked folding my arms. "If they are not bankrupt, then how come they don't have most of the supplies? What else do they have then? Just their company building?"

"The thing is – "

"Set up a meeting with Devan Supplies," I said curtly, my eyes fixed on Xander as he shifted uncomfortably in his spot. "I would love to confirm your statements." His nervousness was palpable and I knew I had him cornered.

"You know what? Don't bother." I added, a smile playing on my lips. Xander's expression relaxed, thinking he was off the hook, but I wasn't done yet. "Mr Greg would handle it instead."

His eyes darted to Mr Greg and for a split second, I saw a flicker of concern, but it was quickly masked.

I turned to Mr. Greg, my tone firm. "Set up a meeting with their CEO, tomorrow at the latest." He nodded. "I'll take care of it."

I turned to leave, but then spun back around, my gaze piercing through Xavier and Reed. "You two, what's going on? Why are you suddenly so chummy?"

Reed's eyes narrowed, defensiveness creeping into his tone. "Can't we see each other just because we're no longer married?"

I let out a mocking laugh. "Oh, Reed, why are you so hung up on our marriage? Do you miss me? Want me back?" My words were laced with sarcasm, and I could see the irritation growing in his eyes. "You can't have me, so find something else to obsess over."

Xavier intervened, his voice soft. "We're just friends."

I raised an eyebrow. "Friends? When did that happen?" I snorted, shaking my head. "Do go on, I really don't care." My tone was dripping with sarcasm, but I didn't care. I was done with this conversation.

As I turned to leave, Mr. Greg followed. "What do you think about those two? Do you think they're plotting something?" I glanced at him briefly, my expression dismissive. "Their problem, not mine. Let them play their games."

I slid into the car, smirking. They can't do much anyway.

I messaged Karen to meet at the house and she agreed immediately. The day went on without any hassle and Mr Greg was able to secure a meeting with Devan Supplies.

I had just finished taking my bath after getting back from work when the door opened, Karen walked in.

"Hey Sisi." A smile lit up my face as she waved, slumping on my bed.

"How was your trip?"

"It was nice."

"Really? I heard Reed attended the conference too."

My brows furrowed as I settled in the bed with her. "How do you know that?"

"I overheard Esham."

"Esham... how? Did you visit her?" I asked and her face contorted into a frown.

"Visit her? Of course not," she scoffed. "I had stomach pain so I had to visit the hospital."

"What? Are you okay?" I asked quickly with concern, and she shrugged. "I'm good, it's just normal stomachaches."

"Oh – " I trailed off, nodding my before going to get her gift.

"What is this?" Karen asked as she collected the box.

"Oh my!" She shaped when she opened it, her eyes darting to me.

I smiled"Do you like it?"

"Of course. It's so cute!" She gushed and I chuckled, watching as she checked the heels out. I guess I made the right choice. Then, there is tomorrow's meeting. I don't think I can trust Xander neither can I trust Devan supplies. I should probably change Xander's plans.

Taking my phone, I called the only person I could think of.
________

The next day, I left with Mr Greg to Devan Supplies , where I met Xander there already. Seeing him with CEO raised my suspicions more, but I ignored and went on to what I was here for.

"So Mr Sheffield," That is the CEO's name, "I heard you are out of stock for the products we need. Is that true?"

"It's true."

My eyes scanned through his face and then Xander's face, my lips curving into a smirk. "Then why are you still operating?"

"Huh." Surprise flashed through his face, and my smirk widened. "I mean, how can you still be operating when you don't have ninety percent of construction supplies. Shouldn't you shut down already?"

"What? Who do you think you are to say such."

"Oh, my bad." I let a chuckle. "Anyways, I would leave now." I flashed him a smile and stood up, walking out of the room.

"Change out supplier for new materials we will be needing." I told Mr Greg as we made our way out of the company, but he flashed me a confused look. "I don't understand."

"Don't worry, I will tell you the details later, but make sure to relay it to Xander. The sooner he is aware, the better."

Step up your game Xander, I'm done coddling you, it's time to get serious.
