Chapter 67
XANDER
I pulled up in the garage of my parents house and came out, my eyes going to the building. Sighing, I tucked my hand in my pocket before going in.
"I'm home." I announced loudly
"My baby boy!" My mum came out of the kitchen, pulling me into an hug.
"I'm not a baby boy." I said, emphasizing on the baby boy before hugging her back.
"Whatever!" She hit my chest. "You are still my son."
"Right. Your son not a baby boy." I mumbled and pulled out of the hug. She passed me a playful glare and I rolled my eyes, slumping on the couch.
"Why did you call me over?"
"Why did I call you? This is your parents house."
"I never said it wasn't. Where is dad?"
"He is out playing golf with Silvana and a friend."
"Silvana?" I turned to her. "Why is Silvana with him?"
"I don't know, I think he wants to introduce her to someone or something. He will be back soon." My mum replied with a shrug and went back into the kitchen.
My brows furrowed as I leaned back on the couch. Introduce her to someone? What is my father up to this time?
I sighed and made to close my eyes, but the door opened at the moment. I moved my gaze to see my dad walk in.
"You're here." His cool bass voice sounded in my ear and I nodded simply.
"I heard you are introducing someone to Silvana, who?" I asked as he settled down.
"It's not important anymore cause hse happened to know the person and... do you know any James?"
My brows furrowed. "James, why?"
He was about replying when my mum came out of the kitchen. She smiled on seeing my dad.
"How was your golf time?" She asked and my dad simply nodded without saying anything.
My mum wanted to say something again but I caught her off, curious as to how he knows about James.
"Why do you ask about James?"
My dad's gaze stayed on my face for a few seconds before he nodded. "I guess you do know him."
"Well, I do. Why are you asking about him?" By this time, I was already off my relaxed position and leaning close to him.
"He is her boyfriend but I don't seem to know who he is."
"What? Boyfriend!" I shouted and they both turned to me with surprised looks.
"What's with that reaction?" My mum asked but my mind was somewhere else. I knew there was something between James and Silvana but I didn't really expect it and not this quick. How did Silvana move on this easily?
"Why is your face that way?"
I turned to my mum who was staring at me with a concerned expression, and let out a fake chuckle. "I was just wondering how she moved on easily." I said and a frown appeared on their faces.
"What do you mean by that? That ex-husband of hers cheated with another girl and is even going around with her, so why can't she date a guy?" My dad fired and I gulped, before chuckling. "I was just joking."
"It's too expensive son." My mum rolled her eyes and faced dad. "So tell me, when did they start dating?"
"I don't know." Dad replied and stood up, heading to the dining room. "Is lunch ready?"
"Oh, yes." Mum replied and called out to the maid to set the dining.
In few minutes, we were all seated in the dining, eating in silence. Dad suddenly dropped his spoon loudly and we looked up at him. My dad's gaze was on me though, a piercing one.
"I heard you've been going around to buy the company's shares." He spoke up and my eyes almost widened. How did he find out?
"May I ask why?"
I chuckled nervously. "What do you mean why? It's something normal."
"How is buying shares at an even higher price normal?" He shot at me and I gulped. He found out about that too?
I dropped my spoon, facing him completely. "I'm just buying shares – "
"For what? I hope you are not having any dumb thoughts?" He asked, his eyes staring skeptically at me.
I let out a sigh. "What thoughts? I don't understand."
"Okay then, let me elaborate. I hope you are not having any thoughts of heading the company?"
"Is there anything bad in that?"
"Of course, there is! Get rid of that thought, because you are never getting the company!" His voice became raised making me scoff. "Why can't I!"
"Because it's not yours! The company was my late brother's to begin with, so it rightfully belongs to Silvana."
"Even though you worked your ass off to keep it going after his death? You were there before he died so why can't I have a right to the company as your son."
"You're currently heading Hardins Construction."
"That wouldn't have happened if mum didn't help me!" I snapped and my mum nudged at my hand but I shoved it off. "I'm not just going to sit still."
"She gave you a chance, but you blew it off."
"More like she tossed the company to me because she wanted to get married."
"The fact remains that she gave you a chance and you blew it off. That shows clearly how incompetent you are!" Dad yelled.
"What?"
"It's the truth, son and the earlier you understand that, the better."
"Dad, am I really your son? Why is Silvana more important to you than I am."
"What are you saying? You both are equally important to me, but I won't encourage you to do something wrong. I warned you, Xander." Dad said and stood up, walking towards the door but he suddenly stopped and turned back. Our eyes met.
"Don't even think of requesting for my shares, you are never getting it." He said and walked out after.
I gritted my teeth, folding my fists tightly.
"Xander – " I stood up abruptly before my mum could complete her words.
"I'm leaving."
"No, wait." She said but I didn't wait. I stormed out of the house, shutting the door in a loud bang.
Oh, Silvana. I'm not sitting back anymore.
As I got to my car, I took my phone out, dialing a number. It got picked at the second ring.
"Boss." The thick voice came up and I smiled.
"I have a job for you. I need you to get rid of someone – smoothly."
As I ended the call, a grin spread across my face. Let's see what you're gonna do this time, dad.
