Chapter 75
Chapter 75
"You can come in."
"No, it's fine." I heard Mrs Claire say but I insisted that she come in even though James was boring holes in my body.
She slowly turned back and I cleared my throat as she walked closer to me, dropping a tray of chicken soup and rice in front of me.
"Thank you." I mumbled and she nodded, turning to go but James spoke up.
"You should knock next time." My eyes widened and I turned to glare at James who just shrugged.
"I actually knocked you know. Not once, but thrice." She murmured but it was overly clear to us. With clasped mouth, I turned to James with a 'who asked you to speak' look.
James avoided my gaze, staring at Mrs Claire. "You can go."
She nodded, bowing slightly before walking out of the room.
I immediately picked my spoon scooping some of the chicken soup in my mouth.
"Sweet." I nodded my head in approval and scooped the rice, eating it fast.
"You wanna eat?" James asked, but I didn't reply, cause I was not sure if he was talking in relation to the kiss which we just got caught in or something else. Either way, I just focused on eating, really fast well, not until I head James chuckle beside me.
"Is anything funny?" I turned to glare at him and he chuckled again, bringing his hand to my lips. "Are you that hungry?"
My glare deepened. "Is that a question to ask someone who hasn't eaten for days?"
His lips curved up into a smile and my smile widened slightly when he wiped a crumb of rice from my lips.
My widened eyes changed into a frown. "Why do you keep doing that?!"
"It's nice to eat from your mouth, an extra sweetness." He winked and a blush crept to my cheek.
I shook my head, returning back to my food.
"About the accident, are the cops doing anything on it?" I asked silently as I ate.
"The cops says it's a mere accident, that your car was faulty."
I stopped eating. A mere accident? I don't why I don't believe that. I feel it's something more.
"What's up with that look?" I took my gaze to James who was staring at me intently.
I brushed it off, shaking my head slowly, "It's nothing." I said, trying to downplay it and attempted to continued eating but James wasn't buying it.
He leaned closer, his face just a few inches from mine and when I turned to face him, our lips were almost touching.
"Something is bothering you, tell me." His eyes crinkled slightly as he talked. I bit my lip, slowly letting my feelings out. "I just think it's not a mere accident."
James eyes narrowed. "Are you sure."
"It's just a gut feeling, you don't have to worry about it." I simply shrugged and turned to my food.
"I will tell the cops to investigate deeply." I turned to him immediately he said that. "I said you don't have to worry about it."
"Well, I can't and besides, it's their work to find out if this is not a mere accident like they termed it as, so let me do my thing while you focus on resting, okay?"
I replied with a nod, a smile slowly pulling up on my lips. I guess I've got myself a sweet boyfriend.
When I was done eating, James handed me my drugs which I took reluctantly. I never liked taking drugs, I frequently skipped them in my childhood and I still do, but because my baby here is offering it to me, I don't mind.
James took care of the dishes after before joining me in bed. My lips curved up into a smile and I snuggled closer to him.
"How long will I stay here?" I asked silently and he hummed like he was thinking before speaking up. "For as long as you want."
"Really?" I asked into chest and he nodded.
"I already arranged your clothes in the closet so take them when you need them.
"Hmm.." I mumbled, feeling my eyes getting heavy. I can't believe I'm already feeling sleepy when I just woke up some minutes ago.
"I think I'm feeling sleepy." I informed and the next thing I felt was James hand on my hair.
"You can sleep as long as you want, I will be right here with you." He said but I had no energy to answer him. My eyelids closed and I slowly fell into the hands of sleep.
The next time I opened my eyes, it was really bright. I reached out for my phone on the bedstand, checking the time. A low gasp escaped my lips when I saw it was the next day and the time was past 10. Does this mean I slept for almost a day.
"Wow, this is weird. Is it because of the drugs?" I mumbled, looking to my side. My lips pursed in a sad pout when I realized James was not beside me. He must have gone to work already.
I carefully got up from the bed and made my way to the bathroom where I had my bath. I spent almost forty minutes in there that I couldn't help but wonder the kind of power I had to get prepared within thirty minutes yesterday. I guess protecting something means doing anything.
I moved to the closet, searching for what to wear from my already arranged clothes. Nothing seemed pleasing to wear so I moved to James clothes, deciding to wear his instead. I finally 1 for a black shirt and tanned brown pants from my own set of clothes.
I began dressing while giggling at the fact that I was putting on James clothes. The feeling is nice. As I finished dressing, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and couldn't help but smile at the reflection staring back at me. The black shirt and tan pants looked great together. I was still staring at myself when I heard voices from. My brows raised curiously and I I left the mirror, going out ot my room, heading downstairs. I had only gotten to the middle of the stairs when I saw James.
"Oh, James. You're still here." I asked in surprise and he turned, his face turning into a frown. "Why are you coming down? You shouldn't walk on your own."
"I thought you left."
"I was making breakfast."
"Breakfast?" I mumbled but he carried me in his arms instead of replying. A low giggle escaped my lips as I hung my arms around his neck. He started working downstairs.
"By the way, is someone here – " I paused when I saw Karen and Chad.
"It's you guys!" I said cheerfully, waving at them, while they passed us strange looks.
"What's going on with you guys? When did you live to this level?" Karen asked, eyeing us skeptically before facing me.
I quickly hit James' chest to drop me down, which he did after hesitating.
Clearing my throat, I put on a smile and walked over to Karen, grabbing her arm sweetly.
"I didn't have the chance to tell you, the accident made it was."
"Yeah, right?" Karen rolled her eyes, but I nudged at her arm smiling teasingly. My eyes went to Chad who was now seated with his legs crossed. My brows furrowed as I stared back at Karen.
"Did you come here together?"
"Yes, why?" Chad asked and I chuckled, glancing at Karen. "I didn't know you guys already linked up."
"We are just neighbors." Karen mumbled, settling down and I immediately sat beside her.
"Are you sure? When did that happen?" I questioned, moving my eyebrows teasingly but she flicked my forehead.
"Ouch!" I winced and James immediately drew me away from her.
"Don't hit her." His voice came out deep, and I glanced at Karen, chuckling at the look of disbelief she had on.
She suddenly scoffed. "You guys might be dating, but she is still my best friend. I can do anything I want with her." She said but James shook his head. "No, you can't."
"What – "
"You heard him, right?" I cut in, "you can't do just anything to me, focus on him instead." I said, pointing at Chad.
Chad cleared his throat, speaking up after. "She is not my type."
"What?" Karen snickered and I took my gaze to her, biting my lip at the disappointed look, which she tried to hide.
"Anyways, I found something on the Xander, you asked me to watch." Chad said and my brows furrowed.
"Xander?" I looked at James who tried to talk, but I didn't let him and spoke up, directing my question at Chad. "What did you find?"
"Guy has been buying off the group's shares from the large shareholders."
"I know that." I nodded my head in understanding. "He wouldn't have been able to claim to be the second highest shareholder if he didn't buy more shares, though he isn't."
"He isn't?" Karen who had been silent asked and I nodded. "Someone bought shares anonymously so I don't know who the person is, I wish I know though." I mumbled, pouting my lips.
