Chapter 82

"What did he just say?"

"What did you just say? This is not a playground for lies." Xander roared angrily, veins popping out in his forehead, but James just stood still looking at him calmly.

"It is as you heard." James replied before snapping his fingers and the Vince behind him brought out proof showing he wasn't lying.

I was still frozen to my seat, finding it all hard to believe.

"And as the second highest shareholder, I oppose your opinion that she steps down from her position."He added and I felt the whole room spinning, as everyone gasped, Xander rearing backwards in shock, he collapsed to his feet.

I stilled in shock, unable to grab what was going on here. James was here, claiming to be the the second highest shareholder with prove and also against my removal as the president.

"How is this possible?" Xander stammered, his eyes widened in shock and confusion.

"Didn't you check what I gave you?" James said, a smirk tugging at his lips as he turned to the rest of the board. "I guess this meeting comes to an end, because there is no use for it."

"Still – "

"Let's go." James turned to me, stretching his hand towards me. My eyes stayed on his hand without me moving.

"Come on." James urged.

I swallowed, slowly placing my hands on his. James held me tight, walking out of the room with me.

We continued walking in silence till we got to the office.

"Are you angry?" James questioned.

I shook my head, still feeling heavy. "I really don't know."

James nodded and took me to the sofa. He helped me sit down, also settling beside me. The room was palpable with silence. I was still in shock ot this new discovery. Never have I imagined James to be the anonymous shareholder even though he held an amount of shares after partnering with us when we almost drowning. Though, I'm grateful that he came to support me, I still found it had to digest the news.

"Why did you keep it from me?" I finally had the energy to speak. I looked up slowly, meeting James' gaze.

"I'm sorry if you feel betrayed, but I just wasn't comfortable talking about it. Don't me mad, huh?"

Tears spilled out of my eyes and I could see James eyes widen. He immediately tried to pacify me.

"I'm so sorry." He said, but that wasn't why I was angry. I was okay with him being the second highest shareholder. I just feel betrayed by the people I worked with.

"Please, Vana." James pleaded, but I shook my head, pulling him into a hug.

"It just hurts. The people I'm working with, they are all against me, even after I did my best for this company. I have no one on my side." I wailed loudly.

James gently released me from the embrace, his thumb tenderly wiping my tears as he shook his head with a reassuring smile.

"I'm on your side, Vana. Always."

"Still, it hurts." I cried out, hitting my chest repeatedly. "It really hurts."

"Don't cry, Vana. Don't." James shook his head and I nodded, trying to keep my tears in, but I couldn't. They came down rushing in a bit.

I hiccuped. "Should I just step down like they want?"

"Of course not, this company is yours and you have to lead it no matter what and I will be right by your side, always."

His declaration melted my heart, filling me with a sense of resolve.
