Chapter 51
As I stepped into the hotel room, I took a moment to scan my surroundings thoroughly. Mr. Greg had thoughtfully booked the room in advance, ensuring a seamless check-in process. I was pleased to see that the sleek, modern decor aligned with my taste.
I arranged my luggage neatly in the spacious closet, and laid out my skincare products on the dressing table before heading to the bathroom to freshen up. I spent quite a while in the bathroom, because I was literally letting off the stress gotten from the flight through the cool water.
When I was finally finished with bathing, I cladded myself in comfortable white pants and black top before slumping on the bed. The softness of the bed enveloped me as I slumped onto it, releasing a deep sigh. My eyes went shut, and my body relaxed, letting go of the stress accumulated from the flight. The comfort of the bed was just what I needed at that moment.
It was already evening so there was no really bo reason to stay awake. I slept off to wake up the next morning, but it didn't go as planned. I woke up later in the night, and when I checked the time, it was 9 already. I groggily left my bed, my stomach empty from hunger. So, I decided to order for room service and while I waited for it to arrive, I moved to the terrace.
A loud sigh escaped my lips as my gaze met with the sky. I was mesmerized by it's surreal beauty. It seemed kind of different from the US sky or is it my imagination. Anyways, It was really beautiful and I didn't just want to miss so I went back into my room to take my phone. I went back to the terrace, and took a picture of the sky.
I was about taking another when I heard the sound of footsteps and a familiar voice. I turned my head to the right where the voice was coming from. Lo and behold, James was right there.
He was on a call with someone and they spoke for a while before he hung up. His head turned towards my direction and he stumbled back, his eyes widening.
"Silvana?"
I nodded, a smile playing on my lips. "Yeah, do I look different?"
James regained his composure, shaking his head. "No... I was just caught off guard." That's understandable cause I also didn't expect to see him here.
He moved closer, standing at a few meters away from the barrier separating the two terraces. "When did you get here?"
"In the evening."
"Same here." He replied and I nodded, returning my gaze to the sky. There was a palpable silence after, with James gaze piercing through me.
I heard the clearing of throat and then his voice "Hmm, Va – " But he was cut short by the sound of a knock on my door. That should be the room service. I excused myself before going over to get the door, and as guessed, it was the room service. The lady dressed in the chic hotel's uniform walked in. She went over to the dining table. She started arranging the food I ordered, and I went back to the terrace.
"It's the room service. What were you saying though?" I asked James who was still waiting.
He shook his head, gesturing towards my room "Nothing. You should go on."
I hesitated but he reassured me with a smile. "Goodnight. I will see you tomorrow."
With a nod, I bade him goodnight before returning to the room. The hotel service staff was already done with arranging my food.
"Thank you, you can leave." I told her, and she bowed slightly. "Enjoy your food," and then she was gone.
I settled in my chair and began eating. Once I was done, I went back to my bed and I soon fell asleep again.
The next morning, I woke up early, but the conference was commencing by 9am, so I decided to get dinner at the hotel restaurant. But, when I got there, I came across a not so pleasing sight of Reed just as I was about settling in a table. Why is he here instead of taking care of his lovely girlfriend who landed on the hospital?
I acted like I didn't see him, and turned to go but he grabbed my hand. Rolling my eyes, I turned to face him, my face cold. "Let go."
"Ooh. I'm scared." He chuckled, acting scared and I sighed before trying to take my hand out of his hold but it tightened.
"You shouldn't be acting like this you know? Though we are no longer married, we can't become enemies because of that, can we?"
I snickered, "You think you are worth to be called an enemy?"
"What?" A frown appeared on his face and I rolled my eyes.
"Shouldn't you be worried about taking care of your wife? I heard she landed in the hospital."
"You bitch!" He raised his hand to hit me, but someone caught his hands before he could do that.
"The fuck!" With a pissed look, he turned only to see James.
"Wow... Look who we have here, Silvana's almighty saviour." Reed said, sarcasm laced in his voice.
James glared at him, throwing his hands down. "Guys who hit women are animals."
"What?" Reed scoffed, and chuckled. "Will you stay away and stop butting your head in everything, or are you fucking her pu**y?"
Anger flashed through James eyes, and he made to punch him, but I stopped him. People were staring, which could lead to something else, and besides, Reed was not really worth it.
"I guess he must be really sleeping with you. That's surely why he keeps having your back and even got rid of the video." I was about leaving with James but I halted in my steps when he spoke up.
My bross furrowed. "Which video?'
"The video of you assaulting Esham. You know, I really wanted to use that against you, but it happened that this fucker got rid of every evidence."
I blinked, taking my gaze to James. "Is this true."
"Vana – "
"Of course it is." Reed cut in and James' head whipped towards his direction.
"Leave."
"Should I?" Reed smirked, checking his wristwatch. "I guess I should, but be careful." He glared at James before leaving.
My eyes remained on James who turned back to me, with a twisted gaze.
"It is, but – "
"Right." I looked away, chuckling. "What was I thinking? That people were so generous? Of course not, they weren't." I turned back to James. "Why did you do it?"
"I – "
"Is it because I cried to you!" I yelled. "Do you see it as a responsibility to clear my shits?"
"No, Vana – "
"I hate it, James. I'm grateful for everything, but I really hate it. It makes me feel like shit! I can't do anything without your help!"
"No, that's not true." James shook his head, stepping closer but I moved back.
"Of course, it is. You keep turning up at every point, but I want you to stop. I only want to do my best, but I feel really worthless now." I said, and turned around. As I walked out of the restaurant, a tear slipped out of my eye.
